  • In this video review, Chris talks through the Macna Dry Cooling EVO vest. As the Chap in the Cap tries to explain, staying warm on the bike is a relatively simple affair. It’s knowing how to stay cool that is far more of a challenge, because when it’s really, really hot vents and openings will only direct more hot air towards the body. It’s in conditions like this that you need to take advantage of enhanced, evaporative cooling. And that’s what you get with the Macna Cooling Vest. Evaporative cooling mimic’s the body’s natural cooling mechanism. When we sweat the moisture that we create evaporates. The transition from a liquid state to a gas state requires energy. It takes heat to generate that energy, and it is the the extraction of that heat from the body that cools the surface of the skin. The Cooling Vest works in the same way. Put water in to it, but not too much. When that water heats up, it evaporates. That takes energy and heat. The jacket becomes cooler, and this reduces the temperature of the wearer. It’s a relatively simple device, but it works. And, in extremis, it can literally be a life saver. Watch the review. You’ll learn how not to pour water from a jug into a vest, but you may also see that this is the kind of accessory you should take with you if you’re going to be riding in the hottest conditions. It’s a field in which our man is a bit of an expert, because he’s found himself without the right gear in all kinds of inhospitable places!

    The Morocco anecdote would be relevant if you’d been wearing the vest. You can’t describe how good a product performs in certain climates by telling a story about a time you were in that climate and didn’t have that product.

    Hi Chris.
    I'm doing something wrong with this, it is not working for me. My back is being all sweaty and my t-shirt ruined when I finish my ride. I'm using it with a Revit Traction jacket with back protector, maybe is for that. I'm filling it just as you show here.

    Chris, I was wondering what would work better: a laminated jacket or a mesh jacket over this? only the cooling vest would compromise body protection obviously.

    Hi Chris, around the 6.50 minute mark you say that the vest is £140, it's on the site for £169.99.

    One minute you say it "reduces ambient temp" then at the end you say "if you want to reduce body temp you need this" does it do both ? just want to clarify. Some actual lab test results would be great.
    Other than that I'm all in. Keep the reviews coming good job.

      I never like trying to give a technical explanation to someone who works in engineering as you seem to do. Technically, as I understand it, the evaporative cooling cools the surface of the vest and this when worn next to the body will, in turn, cool the body. ML

    Hello ! First sorry for my english...
    Nice review 👍🏻 I have a question : Do you know if the cooling is compatible with airbag vest ?
    Thanks

    • @Motolegends
      @Motolegends  2 года назад +1

      Hi Florian.
      Depends on the airbag vest, but mostly we would say yes. This Cooling vest doesn't take much space under the summer jacket and shouldn't stop the ability of the airbag to work. The only problem is the airbag vest will stop the air flow to the Cooling vest, and that will create a bit of a barrier.

    Cunnlng plan Chris, how about using a fan and thermometer to get some proper values for the materials and vents on the gear available? Maybe call it the 'C'ool value and add it on the website.

      The Klim Aggressor -1 is just a good base layer for hot temperatures. The Macna cooling vest is in a different league as this is a more active solution and will actually cool down your core temperature.

    What is the different with this vest compared to Alpinestars Cooling Vest? Would you say the Alpinestars work better than Macna as Alpinestars uses 3 layers textile instead of 2 layers (50 nylon+50 PU) on Macna?

    • @TheCaptainbarnacles
      @TheCaptainbarnacles 3 года назад +1

      Did you buy a vest? I'm contimplating it. The machna seems like a more refined design and who alpinestars copied.

    • @awangkuakram8371

      @@TheCaptainbarnacles Yes I did. The weather's in my country Malaysia is crazy hot (usually 35C-40C and feels like 45+ due to humidity).
      I actually bought an Inuteq Bodycool Smart (Due to cheaper local currency). Very similar in design to Macna, and I agree with you that it does look 100% better than Alpinestars.
      I'd be honest with you, wet cooling vest probably will work better if you want the "cooling effects" as the Dry Cooling Vest does not really cool you up, instead it naturalize your body core temperature which is quite nice. It totally works for daily and touring! Although, I might get myself the wet fit-to-your-body version from Inutec for motocross/more hardcore activities.
      If you happen to change your mind and checkout Inuteq, give the Neckcool Pro (Neck cooling solution) a try. They're totally not a gimmick, and really works.

      @@awangkuakram8371 Thank you very much for the comprehensive response. I'm headed to the Saraha desert next week and I'm rather intimated by the temperature. My plan is to keep hydrated, set off at dawn, wear as much mesh as possible & dunk my clothes in water when I get the chance. That's interesting the inuteq neck piece, I'll attempt to replicate it's function with a wet neck covering. When you say the product naturalises your body temp do you mean it helps to keep it at 38°C?

    • @awangkuakram8371
      @awangkuakram8371 3 года назад

      @@TheCaptainbarnacles That's great, enjoy your adventure ride!
      Yes the the inuteq cooling system products are quite impressive.
      What I meant by the Dry Cooling Vest naturalize my body temp is that it doesn't make me feel "Suffocate" on those heavy temperature. Even when I stopped at traffic light, it really helps. You will still sweat though, but it does not make you feel drowned/suffocate (If you know what I mean).
      But again, if you are going to stop and dunk your clothes on water as much as u can, then get the wet version, the only cons for it is that it will wet your shirt, and it will actually dries off within 20 minutes-1 hour (depending on humidity). But its cooling system works better than Dry Cooling Vest.
      Dry Cooling Vest is simply practical for daily/touring use when you dont want to feel messy on the bike/at work.
