    It's OK if you guys think rounding up your check is a scam. Many people do. You should have explained the reason behind this, though. And no, it's not "so you don't have to carry all that small change in your pocket". It's actually to donate it to a good cause. And it usually goes to a certified NGO.

  • @ksmith2852
    @ksmith2852 4 года назад +1

    Great explanation. How do you say keep the change? Understanding the amount they say is still a challenge! In the smaller stores you can't see it, the person just tells you the price and they say it FAST! Also, when you change your money they also want to give you large bills and as you said, taxi drivers, taco stands, fruit stores, little bodegas, and shops all want small bills since they don't have a lot of money to make change. How do I ask for lots of small denominations when exchanging money?

    • @SpanishandGo
      @SpanishandGo  4 года назад +1

      Thanks, Kim! You can say "quédate con el cambio" or "quédate con el vuelto" if you want to let them know before they try to hand anything back to you. You can also say "así está bien" and motion with your hand that you don't want to accept what they're trying to hand you back. It roughly translates to "that's fine." The gesture makes it clear that you're referring to the change. To request smaller bills, you can say "¿me puedes dar billetes más puequeños, por favor?" I hope that helps! Thanks for watching. -Jim

    Are these terms appropiate to use in Latin America or Spain?

  • @dbsmithinFL
    @dbsmithinFL 5 лет назад

    Would the size differ for medium depending on whether the item was masculine or feminine? In the case of the blusa (f), the size was mediana. For abrigo o vesitdo, would the size be mediano? Also, would mens' sizes use different terms? (at least for camisetas o playeras, which is what I would most likely purchase as a tourist.)

      ¡Tienes mucha razón, Rodney! Las tallas a veces vienen como "S", "M" o "L" en la ropa. Especialmente cuando es ropa que no está hecha en México.

    It is great to hear May speaking normal Spanish in the store first, before she uses over-enunciated Spanish for the instruction. Too many instructors only use over-enunciated Spanish, which is not helpful.

    • @valeriegriner5644
      @valeriegriner5644 5 лет назад

      Over-enunciated is good for beginners...like me. I couldn't understand her rapid conversation with the store clerk. It may seem foolish to you, but some of us are NEW to Spanish.

      True. If I even hear English not pronounced the way I learned it I don't understand it. Hence. If your learning English. Learn from a real English person and not from one of your own. Grammar gives them away.

    How much is the average income? How much is the cost of rent per month?

    • @SpanishandGo
      @SpanishandGo  6 лет назад

      The average income in Mexico is around $10k USD. Housing costs vary depending on what type of house you rent. In rural Mexico, it's easy to find houses that cost $100/mo or less to rent. If you want a penthouse by the beach though it will cost much more than that. -Jim

    Bolleta o factura? Número de DNI? I wish my Spanish teacher warned me about those questions in advance.

      DNI is the Peruvian ID card, which confused me at first because I'm not Peruvian and I did not know what it was or used for. I was asked for my national ID card in Colombia too, by a police officer on the street. But I didn't have - it got a little bit heated - I thought maybe my broken spanish would have given away that I was not a native speaker, but I got a telling off anyway. Afterwards, I remembered I could have shown him a bank card (I don't walk around with my passport). Whilst in Bolivia too, I was asked for ID every time I purchased something. I think, from my appearance many people presumed I could have been a spanish speaker as I have dark hair, dark eyes, etc. Sometimes they get confused when I don't quite understand everything, or annoyed if I ask them to speak a little slower. It became quite a frustrating experience.

      Oh no! :/
      Don't feel bad, some people are just rude.
      Remember, you speak two languages. Usually the people who are rude and impatient are the ones who only speak one. :p
      And thanks for the clarification! Now we know what DNI is for when we visit Peru. :)

      Spanish and Go Peruvian spanish Is quité clean sounding I find, the problem is that most people talk extremely fast and they don't use punctuation when they speak. All they have to do is.... Pause now and again. Whentheyjointwenty wordstogetherwithoutstoppingto catchabreathit'sacaseofnoentiendo. Bolivia wasn't as frustrating as they spoke just a little slower and allowed for pauses.

    "Este" como pronombre no lleva acento desde 2010. Se empeñaron los de la academia mexicana y todas las academias de ASALE lo quitaron. Usar "este" con acento es una falta de ortografía.

      It's OK if he thinks that's a scam. Many people do. They should have explained the reason behind this, though. And no, it's not "so you don't have to carry all that small change in your pocket". It's actually to donate it to a good cause. It's usually a certified NGO.
