Cottage industry is small scale but still industry but having that many doesn't make any country in today's age an "industrialised" country, it would've maybe 300 years ago but not now, people have moved on to large scale and at the same time more being efficient industry, this is the key word here, efficiency, you don't industrialise for the sake of it, making the production better, faster, cheaper while consuming less fuel and labour than your competitors makes you an industrial power, makes you "industrial"

@Abhijit and Abhinav: a great talk. I would like to make a few points based on the matter discussed (1) I think the availability of local coal was a decisive factor in the industrialization of a select few Western European countries. Britain, Germany, France, and Austria-Hungary had the bulk of it which enabled them to build their industrial clusters in close proximity to mining centers. Spain and Portugal did not have such extensive mining reserves. They were also losers in the Anglo-Spanish wars and the Napoleanic wars at the time rapid industrialization was taking place in Britain. By the middle of the 19th century, Spain lost control of most of its colonies in the Americas. This is in stark contrast to the British who were expanding in India and Africa at the exact same time. Ditto with the French in Indo-China and Africa, and the Dutch in Indonesia. (2) The growth of Protestantism was a major factor as the Bible got translated and people were encouraged to read for the first time. The effects of growing literacy and a work ethic that focussed on getting rich are God's gift for hard work, set in motion a chain reaction that enabled countries that rejected Catholicism to leap past those that remained Catholic. By 1700, (the Reformation began in 1500) the Protestant countries were already richer and the gap simply started getting wider once the Industrial Revolution kicked in. (3) Almost all Western countries, glorify their Golden Ages. There are hundreds of museums, castles, mansions, churches across Europe that are maintained at high expense to showcase their past, build a sense of history, and as a way to build pride in their shared national achievements. Therefore, It is not true that they do not look to the past. (4) Bangladesh has very little military expenditure unlike India, Pakistan. Various sources have suggested 10 - 25 million Bangladeshi illegal immigrants in India. Even at the lower limit, this means they already have a Kerala-model / Phillipino-model / Polish-model, where 10% or more of the population are working abroad and sending remittances which removes pressure on the incumbent government.

    • @siddarth3955
      @siddarth3955 Год назад

I don't think Protestant movement helped much because it's recorded statistics that after Protestant movements the peasant revolts actually reduced to a great extent. The nobilities also became more exploitative. I think it's the expansion and laying hands on greater natural resources had greater role to play. Also hard work and gods gift is present in almost every religion, sects and culture. So I don't think that's also much of a factor.

Lots of interesting mathematics and sciences did happen after invention of 0 in India, they likely got ignored as those with resources and power were too myopic to see their practical use. Soon these people got preoccupied dealing with islamic invasions besides being too indulged with their royal lives.
While sciences are important for industrialization, I do agree that there was no initial need for marrying it with technology and production practices in India due to abundance of cheap human resouces.

7:32 _"Even today, why don't we mechanise?"_ Because we have _'too much labour',_ says Mr. Abhijit. And according to him it were the strange events of volcanic eruption in Iceland and massive, climate changing famines 11:10 , 12:00 that reduced the population enough to put sufficient pressure on the Europeans to innovate and industrialise. Yet again, it is this useless population, like always, creating hurdles in progress. If it weren't for those sudden depopulating catastrophic calamities, then, by _his_ implication, the whole world should still be on bullock carts and cycle rickshaws. Like otherwise, it never could've occurred to the greedy Westerners, that through empowering scientific temper, freeing the markets to function without government's coercive interventions, funding innovation and competitive spirit, they could possibly save a few more minutes of labour, make more money in profit, live a better, happier life and consequently build a more powerful empire than the rest of the world. Yes, to him, our dear Abhijit, it was more _that_ chance scarcity of labour, all due to an accident in nature, which became the main driving force, the main push behind the industrialization of the West, and of course NOT the ideas of reason, individual freedom and self-interest, all stemming from the re-discovery of the works of Aristotle, a philosopher from the Greek Antiquity, which eventually brought about the Enlightenment Age resulting in scientific revolution through Galileo, Copernicus, Kepler, Newton and the others.
Why do we have to be beating round the bush always on this, leaving out the USA, despite it being the ONLY country which finally emerged as the freest and therefore the most industrialised in history, but instead focus on Europe of late 18th and early 19th century? 😧 And what's with this age-old fear of over-population? 🤔 16:43 I'm surprised that he seems to be unaware of the works of an eminent scholar of Indology, Nilesh Nilkanth Oak, on his analyses of the depth and scale of the contributions of our ancient civilization in our Vedas, the Upanishads and the numerous Sanskrit works in the field of philosophy, literature, art, science and technology! 20:05 He just keeps on quoting again and again that the only special thing that India could come up with was 0 because that's all he knows. 😳 23:24 For you to disregard the historical fact, even though it was the only right thing that Shashi Tharoor did in his whole life, i.e. of calling out that the British DID get rich in wealth by plundering WHAT WAS LEFT of India's wealth and by enslaving our countrymen and thus helped in powering their empire, and your denying that is such an unforgivable, disgraceful act of disingenuity and betrayal towards India! 25:40 _"Mslim dynasties.. who get acclimatized to India and turn Indian"_ please🙏 kindly enlighten us on exactly HOW did these Mslim invaders turn into Indians.. or if it was the OTHER WAY around? _Natives?_ wt_ This is serious. 26:08 Read about what the Hindu King Suheldev Pasi (10th-11th Century C.E.) of Shravasti of present day Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh did to Mahmud Ghaznavi's nephew Salar Masood and his army when he following on uncle's footsteps came into India for loot and plunder in 1034 C.E. and why did after this the Pathans from Afghanistan suddendy forget their ways to India for the next 150 years? Something happened at Bahraich, right? Please do yourself a favour and read about the mighty Kashmiri Hindu King Sangramraja (ruled 1003 C.E. - 1028 C.E.) and also read and find out how many times did he defeat the Mslim invader Mahmud of Ghazni and what happened. Find out who Lalitaditya Muktapida (724CE-760CE) was and why he is called the mightiest son of India. 🙏 33:12 👏 So, you want to ask, why couldn't India industrialise itself under the Muguls if Japan could do it under the Americans? You have the courage to compare what the Indians went through under the Muguls to how Japanese related to the Americans??? You mean to ask why an enslaved country couldn't produce wealth under your now nativised Mslims who were so invested in this most cherished dream of theirs? Tell me one, ONE country that industrialised itself just under the tyrannical rule of Islamic invaders without any outside help? Yes??? 34:30 _"Maybe a dictatorship helps."_ Japan did it. Even Iran did it. Or _did it?_ BUT why have you made the United States of America the elephant in the room this entire half hour? Why isn't the 18th, 19th, early 20th century U.S.A. and IT'S FIRST PRINCIPLES part of your discourse, if you're so interested in why & how nations managed to get and STAY industrialised?? 40:00 You're right that the PSUs are a waste. But you also want the State to grow into a more and more centralised power and put more regulations to stop crony-capitalism, because you fear Capitalism creates monopolies? But you've got it upside down. Yet again. Free markets don't cause monopolies but special privileges /interventions of governments in the market cause them. Get a book on basic economics. Start with Henry Hazlitt. Read our very own, आचार्य चाणक्य. 42:00 _"The State's control of affairs became ABSOLUTE.. because Industrialisation is a 'horrible' process."_ You're now justifying TOTALITARIANISM, for fear for what? Inequality? Is inequality a bad thing even? Does equality even exist in nature? (Sorry, I've edit out the previously recommend material here at this point, because I no longer trust his opinion) 42:40 _"In India we've never achieved that."_ Police State? 😂 🤣 Don't know whether to laugh or cry now😭. 43:41 But can India ever become an Industrial society? _"Aah, No."_ 52:52 _"कहां से भई BMW बनाओगे इस देश में?"_ 56:52 _"You tell me which Western country builds monuments to it's past?"_ Is U.S.A. not a Western country for you? Is it the elephant in the room for you? Ask this from an American Patriot. Not every country has a past worth remembering or a people who want to remember it for the sake of it, let alone for inspiration. 1:08:25 _"What is your identity in India? An ossified so called freedom struggle against a so-called foreign occupier at some point of time."_ Just one: an Indian, an Individual, striving for success, who loves his/her country and its hardworking people, and is quite aware and proud of it's rich history, culture and tremendous potential. 1:09:15 _"But Bangladesh is moving quite rapidly." Consensual?_ Oh _yeah?_ Thank you for good news. 😀 But please don't leave too soon. We need people like you too, to learn from your deep knowledge. 1:10:04 अभिनव जी 🙏 धैर्य आपका, धन्य हैं आप। नमन।🙏 Though your guest was all over the place with his knowledge, with 1-2 right points 40:52 on rule of law situation, government spending , while doing a miserable job, on the whole, of posing to be a centrist, but leaning far Left. Still, I think it is understandable that it is an injustice towards the educated elite to expect from them a more rationally critical point of view beyond rationalisations and misrepresentations. I only wish he had done a more, fact-based research than resorting to making sensational claims in order to appear smart, 'well-read' and sophisticated. Abhijit is missing developments that happen in South post 700s. Specifically,
    - Bhakti movement - Most Carnatic musicians trace their roots to this movement, as does most literature/dance/plays post 800s. This has a direct influence on aspects of Tamil cinema even today, there is no analogy in the West.
    AND
    - Kerala School of Mathematics (1400s-1600s) - many aspects of calculus were discovered here. Unfortunately, it does not go outside of Kerala, and severe endogamy means that most of the work was likely restricted to Brahmins.
He also misses the colonial era invention of long-distance radio communication by JC Bose (contemporary to Marconi in Italy), though he does not commercialize it and has no intent of doing so.

They were pretty much landlocked for almost 60 years of their history . What benefit is there from Delhi other than bureaucratic hassle and bullshit power struggles over the last 1000 years ? Tell me isn't it better to completely decentralize at the central level and leave Delhi to rot and allow the various states to build their own culture ? I am 100 percent sure , if Delhi wasn't taken over and ruled from by the Turks and Afghans and later Britishers , we would have industrialized . Delhi is far from every part of India . Nagpur , is central India , Indore is as well . Ujjain , which is an inland city was a good capital . Why is it that any Kingdom which was ruled from Delhi always lost wealth ? Why did Vijaynagara Empire fall ? All empires whose capitals are at the North , regardless of whether they have an enemy near by or not will suffer from India like problems , if the Capital is either ,
    1. Not to the North East ,
    2. Is near or in the North exact .

The problem is literally Delhi . Ever Since Kannauj was replaced by Indraprastha or Delhi , things started to go south for us . The first time Delhi was the capital of India , we had Mahabharat , then Prithvi Raj's Family controls the north for 200 years and its best King from Delhi fails to prevent the Islamic Invasion , fails to get help from his relative in Kannauj and gets castrated and killed of in a very very brutal fashion . Then , the Delhi Sultanate till the Khiljis take over , struggles to defeat Jaichand's family even though they paraded the head of Jai Chand on a Pike across Delhi . Then , the Khiljis , destroy any last semblance of Hindu rebellion around the country for a while , still ironically lose to Tuglaqs. Next , the Tuglaqs loose the south to Vijayanagara and within 1390s are all but powerful in and around Delhi with the help of Jats . Then Taimur invades , and Lodis come to power and start a scuffle against the Jats who actually invited Babar and not Rana Sangha ends up supplanting them . The Mughals also end up on a similar trajectory and end up in a mess by 1707 due to their Zealotry . Then the Marathas loose to Abdali by protecting Delhi as their overlords . Worse yet when the British Empire in December 1911 changes capital to Delhi and within 3 years are in a World War , in 36 years lose India . Does Delhi have a curse , well yes , as per Jyothish the city is the worst place for any capital and always empowers the crony Bureaucracy . Till the Vijayanagar Empires Capital was the part of North Eastern part of their empire they were successfully prosperous . The moment they conquered Orissa and Bengal and returned to the capital within 40 years of Krishna Deva Raya's death they just are annihilated . All they are Aravidu puppets at best . What happened to Cholas when the king expanded North . The thing is Historically countries whose political and economical capitals are to the East or North East have prospered . Look at US , China , France, Modern Germany , Mongols , Xiongnu . The anomaly is UK whose Capital was to the South East of UK. Even the Romans didn't become a power house till they captured Spain and North Africa from the Carthaginians . Their downfall started after their coffers started to run dry during the early 200s after they had made Italy the centre of their world . Even the Russians who consider Siberia an asset today as a part of Europe had their capital to the East . The East India Company conquered India only when their Capital was Kolkata . If India wants to succeed we need our Capital of Both Economics and Politics to be replaced with one of the three :-
    1. Kolkata ,
    2. Mangalore ,
    3. Madurai .
Anywhere Else and we would struggle to industrialize and prevent failure of society . Delhi is literally the Problem . That city will be the bane of India . You need port cities to Industrialize and be power houses .

North East has always been a direction of prosperity . But , remember who failed were usually empires with Northern Capital .

Rapid industrialization needs population, natural resources and the most important authoritarian rule...it can be imperialism as was in european countries, and Japan, dictatorship like China or a complete submission to rules of capitalism (authoritarian in sense) like was in 1860-70s USA...the resource part can be outsourced (as done by colonial powers)... The most curious case is of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk of Turkey and Emperor Mejii of Japan, both single handedly turned their respective nations into industrial power, just because they cud rule by iron fist...Can u imagine Ataturk abolished arabic script for turkish and replaced it with Latin just bcz he found that Latin has developed and already has a lot of scientific research and knowledge base in it. This is just bull hog. Germany didn't Industrialize till late 19th Century late 19th Century Swiss and Austria had great cities how many great inventions do you see comming from.Vienna, Zurich ?? This is lame reading of Indian history and history in general. The first steam engines pop up in Europe in mid to late 1800's. First railway line was built in 1830. If the Europeans were so damn good why did the Brits get their rear ends kicked out of a de industrialized USA which was a colony? This is a real dampner, the man is just trying hard to put down the country to prove his point. What supported Industrialization?? Evolved Banking. Industrialization calls for heavy capital investment. Before even the first steam machine was invented the stock exchange in England was a century old. When you trade you create surpluses, when you have surpluses you invest in financial instruments. The merchant class of Europe profited heavily and invested in new technologies. The Churches created and funded Universities across which researched. The only thing Europe could trade with Asia was limited items however Asia could offer multiple items. The lack of choices for trade with Asia also prompted Europe to do value addition, hence they started factories.

India is not China. India will not take China route, it'll make a QUANTUM leap. It will go straight into Digital and electronics and other high tech where all the money is at, while all the jobs will be generated due to logistical infrastructure like roads, bridges, railways and more. If India successfully manages to get hold sustainable Hydro power, it can be a grand game changer and will lead power revolution because of our location advantage Trains, Bullet trains and more will pop out in such short intervals and will improve public transport and logistics, you can clearly see how fast metros popped out in a span of few years after Delhi metro showed how good it can be. Education will go through overhaul and skill will be prioritized to learn, Biggest revolution would be in the way agriculture works, middle man are being removed and cut off and farmers are getting direct benefits. Technology will be introduced to farmers with much better ways to farm through various methods and techniques creating great food surplus and creating more output to be used for food processing and add value to our exports Textile sector is fine but it needs alot more inter-connectivity and access to market which is also happening by connecting them with digital mediums even if it means hand holding them through it. India will be at forefront of E-revolution and it has already changed much of its railways to be electrified rather than run on coal. Soon it will be populated with EVs and more, you can already seeing Erickshaws taking over in the Delhi compared to normal one.

Most of it is already Done or in process, some are slow like agriculture reforms since its a massive sector but its steadily showing signs of exponential growth and the bullet train is in Political shithole. India only needed 21 things, Strong leadership and Money.
Thanks to new policies and strong
government with majority it has gotten hold
of both it has continuously broken records
in just 7 years and covered more than 60
years. Not to fault the previous government
too much but their policies were both
rubbish and their governance was bad
enough as it is and neither they were any
state to earn this much ever before, New
policies allowed India to rake in massive
funding and made the foreign reserves
skyrocket. In just 1-2 years we'll be the
second highest right next to China. Not just
that. It has already made india a good
alternative to China with low labor cost and
transparent democracy, so much so that it
has crossed US to become second best
      attractive destination for Manufacturing
      worldwide
Tax collection has become easier due to
      GST and digital revolution, Infra
      development has broken world records
39km of road per day is being made. India
already has alot of missiles up and tested ready for army deployment, we even will have a entire squadron for just handling this many missiles. Its not a case of Easier said than done, its already being done. A few things might differ from what I said since future is always uncertain but its going that way at tremendous pace without stop. From 2GW in solar capacity to 42GW is indeed a feat that shows seriousness. Now the world's just raining money on us, sky is not even the limit now. Unlike China, we have diplomatic edge. We have relations with both Russie and US Israel and the Arabs and many more countries that would sideline you if you even dare associate with other. Anytime someone fights, we get the most advantage of their mess. Thanks to AUKUS we get cheaper France subs. These are not small advantages, this much power is just showered upon us due to being in the right moment. Now with demographic advantage we are even going to eat China's market too. Since long before, India didn't enter Manufacturing sector due to China, instead used Services sector to prop itself up and neglected that sector uptil now. Now we finally have the chance to fill in that gap.

    • @naiyayika
      @naiyayika 3 года назад +1

These first few Things are not that grand of a problem, not only that its already being worked out as we speak. Before we develop semiconductors itd be done.
I would say Politics is indeed a great issue
but on the flipside there is a huge
workaround against this Extreme level of
transparency where you cannot take in ori
out the money easily as you could before.
      Transactions are done digitally, middlemen
are shunned, projects are being done on
time or even before that but why? its
because its rewarding and accountability is
      set pretty well now
One thing people dont notice that Modi
government acts very strongly on this front,
they are not exactly trying to end corruption, they are trying to destroy the ways through which it can happen, their entire purpose is to destroy any way bureaucrats can do this usual bullshit any longer because now accountability is set and in effect, transactions are digital and now even anonymous interactions are being done to get work done so they cannot dupe people because they wouldn't know whose on the other side. Now this is why so many
projects are being done on time and getting
clearance and goverment is further clearing
the process to make it much more simpler
and easier to do business. India hast
jumped alot of ranks in the years of Modis
rule in Ease of doing business.
Transparency in India rose after digital
      revolution due to Demonetization which
became a foundation pilar for trust in India,
      Second big thing is Demographic
advantage which we have with the greatest
youngest population and being the most
populous nation and will continue that trend
even in future serving as the grandest
market for all. People are literally throwing
money at us in every sector. Where do you
think this 200 billion USD forex came from
in just last 2 years even during pandemic? It
was because India improved upon its
policies while China was fucking up royally
      with its dog-headed diplomacy
You are taking Amravati to greatly at heart
It was bound to flop anyway because it was
too big for a state to do but yet that hasn't
stopped people from investing in Dholera.
But that time and this time are different in
many ways since Modi came alot more
doors have opened and his policies have
opened it even further, his idea to privatize
many non performing assets is a good way
to lower government liabilities and allow
them to actually prosper. Take Air India as
Example, It was blooming well until Nehru
came fucked it up with his socialism. There
is conscious need to keep the politics away
from business, all Congress did in its time
was keeping its dirty paws off IT and look
how it blossomed into a massive sector.
While it is true, Places like West Bengal,
Punjab and Chattisgarh will remain a
shit-hole due to their own messes and this
political need to fuck everything that center
wants to do. But Gujrat and BJP ruled
states are going to benefit very strongly
      except Uttarakhand. UP especially jumped
to the top of the list.
