    How good was Alfredo Di Stefano actually? #GOAT

    Di Stefano, like Ronaldo had a monster mentality. The recent Real Madrid documentary talks how Real was facing a team in USSR or around there, the pitch was ice... you'd slip & couldn't move or run with the ball. The whole team was demoralized but he encouraged the team, put himself in defense & said that they can't lose, which was amazing.
    Like Cristiano, he'd push his team further. Even Ramos does that. Di Stefano revolutionized football but his mentality to win & hunger for football has made Real Madrid to be the best football club in the world, countless captains & best players in the world inherited that mentality. Cristiano fit in perfectly at Real because even if he was arrogant or selfish, his hunger for winning obscured everything. The reason why Real since then, from decade to decade has won trophies is because of that mentality.
    You can stain the white shirts with mud but not with shame/humiliation.

      CR7 has definitely helped placed the winning mentality back on its feet after the failed Galactico experiment of the early 2000s (they had winning mentality too, but lack of essential players cuz Perez is about that superstardom $$$), but that's also because there was good management from the likes of Mourinho, Ancelotti, and Zidane (whom players respect and look up to as he was once the greatest of his generation), and the rightful players who complimented each other's strengths and weaknesses. All of them were born to win in the most competitive atmospheres and they have banded together to do so.

      The football was very different back then. He was a very good player for today standards among mostly amateurish players. The defense on the teams back then was simply a joke, composed by players that were tall/strong and had absolutely no talent. Beckenbauer was the one that revamped the notion of what a center back that could actually play football would be.

    • @AdvocateSpirit
      @AdvocateSpirit 2 года назад +1

      @@pauloa.7609 It appears La Liga had been professional for over 3 decades by the time Di Stefano was playing at Real Madrid. The dictator Franco was well involved in football and the Madrid-barca rivalry had already kicked off. I think the amateur idea of the players can't be used.
      What's changed mainly is the speed that the game is played at. So today he couldn't get the ball from the keeper and score like he did back then. Today's closest comparison to what he'd likely be is a more prolific De Bruyne

    • @pauloa.7609
      @pauloa.7609 2 года назад

      @@AdvocateSpirit it was amateurish like most of the other leagues, Benfica in Portugal was an absolute giant driven by players such as Eusébio or Mário Coluna... Yet, the portuguese league was also amateurish even if it had over 30 years at that time. Don't forget that civil wars, world wars and many uncontrollable situations happened in that era. You had good players, probably they could play in high profile teams and high profile leagues nowadays but the average player was an amateur. My father played in the first division in Portugal, he had to ride a bicycle for many, many kms to train at night... Think about that and like him there was many in the same situation all around the country.

      @@AdvocateSpirit and Bruyne, he would be a legend even bigger than these names if he was teleported to there. The tactics, the speed, the diet, the equipment,... Everything's its different, football its indeed a professional sport and i would say that the step was made like 30 years ago and it had a huge jump in the last 20 years. Nowadays football players play to a very late age, back then at their 30's a footballer was completely destroyed. My father saw Eusébio at 34 years old almost crawling after 20 minutes in the field and at 35 we would just walk around.

    • @AdvocateSpirit
      @AdvocateSpirit 2 года назад +3

      @@pauloa.7609 Eusebio may have been crawling but Puskas was flying and Stanley Matthews played until 51 (something like that) so some players were different.
      If we're teleporting, I'd say conversely of you were to teleport a 10 year old Pele, Di Stefano, Puskas, Cruyff, Maradona, Zico, Platini, Gerd Muller, Sir Bobby Charlton into our era, they would outshine our current stars. Pele dwarfs Mbappe drastically (and so on).
      In my example, they would be up to date with tactics and the new ways of training and the best kits, on the best fields, etc.
      What way your main point about it being amateurish though?

    Now that you did a video about Di Stefano, do a video about the recently deceased Paco.
