If anyone didn't understand the satire of the video name, I don't legitimately think the 9mm is a bad cartridge. I just love to poke fun at it over the amount of people who are obsessed with it as "the best ever". Also, considering how many people do love the 9mm and understand it's ballistics, well that just makes this video easier to follow and understand the .327 Federal Magnum ballistics better.
i never said 9mm was the best at anything i said its the best i have that fits my daily needs the capacity is a huge selling point and the commonality of it and price but there are loads of better guns and rounds but hard to find a gun as reliable as a glock and have the same features for under 500 dollars the taurus g3 does that for me
@@joemorganeatmyshortschannel I like the M&P, but that's just me. The way it fits my hand is correct and they have been more reliable for me. Aside from my current Glock I had another one, and it was fairly reliable but I had maybe 5 jams in 1,500 rounds. I have had 3 S&W pistols, two M&P's and one 915 and I have never had one malfunction. I have only like 500 rounds in one M&P, 100 in the other and 1,000 in the 915, similar round count as the more reliable Glock I had, but S&W is winning for reliability for me.

That energy measurement of the 327 Mag is so helpful out of a snubby. You’re one of the few who actually test ammo and handguns in their typical use versus best case scenario using 4” barrels. Great job!
I think you're doing the Lord's work by spreading the word on the .327 Magnum. This really is a tremendous cartridge and it makes for near-optimal.carry in a small, lightweight revolver like a Ruger LCR. Meets or exceeds 9mm performance and you get an extra shot.
Thanks for watching. And it's all due to one of my supporters Pointblank. If he had not donated this gun to me I would have never had the opportunity to test .327 Mag.
If anyone was wondering about load data with the 100 gr Gold Dot bullet, I once dissected one of these rounds. It was 14.0 gr of powder and that powder looked exactly like Ramshot Enforcer. Interestingly enough on Speer's website they list the max charge of a Ramshot Enforcer load at 13.5 gr (compressed powder load) and Federal 200 primer. One caution would be that the use of a brass case and not a nickel plated case would be advised, as a nickel plated case could cause a cracked case from the extreme pressure.
I’ve been carrying the .327 Ruger LCR for years and it’s the best setup for me. I just smile when people put down .32 as being weak. You have so many options with the .327, from easy shooting target loads to .357 @$$ kicking loads…it’s also inherently more accurate. In my book .327 Federal Mag is the best handgun round bar none. Love the channel, keep up the great videos 👍🏻
Man I need to quit watching your.327 videos, everytime I watch one I end up wanting one lol. I'm with you regarding six[or five in my case] rounds being enough. I live out in the country, the big crime wave going on here is somebody going around stealing peoples mail. If I'm going to the nearby store I'm perfectly content with a J-Frame or even a .380 in my pocket,at the most I'd have a S&W Shield IWB. Now if I'm going to a high crime area I will carry a 17+1 9mm with a couple reloads. But like you said it does weigh you down and combine that with the heat and humidity down here in the south in the summer it makes trying to conceal all that pretty miserable after a couple hours.
The little .32 acquitted itself quite well and that out of a shorter barrel with cylinder gap. Impressive. In a sense the .327 is kind of like a 7.62 Tok for revolvers.
4:00 The extra work that it takes to show us the impact of your shots is appreciated. Too many channels just show shooting, with viewers wondering where the bullets are going. Thanks also for your repeated use of the .32 H&R Mag and .327 Mag. I wish they were more popular, but most don’t know about them.
The only reason I carry a P365 as opposed to the Ruger .327 Federal Mag, is because of availability. I know things got crazy the past year and a half, but before that, I couldn't get my hands on the .327. Also (I didn't see mentioned) is the .327 handles basically all the .32 family, plus shot shells, and it's surely easier to reload. Thanks for your time making this video !
Just like Paul Harrell, pulling guns from every pocket lol. This makes me want a new .327 4" to go with my .32 h&r mag. The test a really appreciated, some of the best on youtube.
Very nice. I was expecting abour 1200-1250 fps from the 327. It did very well, at 1396 fps average. Kimber should make a K6 3" in 327, 7 shot cylinder, and maybe an alloy frame if feasible. That would be a great package. The 327 LCR continues to impress. Very practical. We all love J frames for ease of carry. This is the only place i have seen 327 and 32 H&R testing. It is very helpful.
The impact of those .327s hitting the ground sounds impressive. Sounds like a much heavier bullet and it's still carrying a lot of energy at that distance from that short bbl. as well. Most impressive.
In my view the .327 is THE best platform for any revolver with a barrel less than 4" in length. It has performance equal or better than .357 in a short barrel, and less recoil which makes it more controllable and easier to practice with. The other thing is that .32 H&R is a great round also and is basically like a less-recoil version of a .38 plus has an extra round in it. Once you get to about 4+ inches the .357 starts to overtake the performance of .327 and most .357s at that length are 6 shooters like the .327. I also agree with you on the self-defense side of things. The thing is, and I think this is a point that is missed, is that a revolver is an inherently defensive weapon by its nature. Most self defense shootings are resolved in a few rounds, and are at close range (
I really enjoy your videos very much. The one thing that bothers me about the people that argue with your results are the same people that can’t do math. V2 X W divided by gravities constant or 450240= FPE. It is really simple to figure out yet bullet styles make some difference to a point they just can’t rap their brain around the facts that you present. Your using a chronograph for goodness sakes…how much more do they need. This isn’t the often exaggerated manufacturers claims but real world! Unbelievable really. You do a hellova job showing the reality of it all and some still shake their heads in disbelief and still call BS!??? Un-freaking real! Some people just can’t be taught I guess my friend but your trying so hard to expand their mind. Thanks for the video and your time and money to make it. God bless.
I love the practical approach to cartridges that you take. I love my .327 lcr. It disappears when you carry it and hopefully never has to show its face in a moment of need.
I'm sure there probably aren't that many interested in lever guns anymore but I would really like to see more performance testing with these calibers like .327 in carbines. The velocity has to be crazy out of a bbl. of that length. I know that's probably a show for PH or LG or something. Maybe one day Sam, maybe one day. :)
You’ve sold me on the Ruger LCR in .327 Federal Magnum, now I just need to find one on sale for a price I’m willing to pay. Prices are getting there but they still have a little bit more to go. I’ll also need ammo to be at a decent price too. Because there’s no sense in jumping into it and paying more money when I’ve already got a good EDC and I can wait for prices to get better.
It's my carry gun as well. God it was hard to find one though. Nowhere on the internet could I find one after looking for months and months, I just happened to go into the showroom when I was shooting at an indoor range and saw it (wasn't looking for anything to buy that day). I got so excited to see it, I think the salesman thought I was nuts. I'm like omg you have one!!! I actually got it for a good price too even in this crazy market. It must have been sitting there for a while and they didnt jack it up like they did every other gun in their shop. And to top it off, it was also the x version of the lcr, which is what I preferred as well. Sam disagrees, but I like having a hammer on my revolver. I know the arguments that it could get snagged when drawing it from a pocket holster, but I've practiced drawing it hundreds of times and it was never an issue. On some traditional revolvers with big hammers, it might be a bigger issue, but on the ruger lcrx, the hammer is very conservative, most of it is shrouded and the amount of spur that actually sticks out is very small. In fact its just enough for me to grab onto with my thumb. So ruger knew what they were doing there. Is it likely that I will ever NEED to shoot it in single action? No, its not. But it could happen, and I like more options than less and it also makes the gun more fun at the range to be able to cock the hammer back and take longer shots in single action. Although thats only a small portion of my practice, because I know that most likely I'll be firing in double action if I ever had to in defense. But that's just my opinion on the whole thing, yours might be different.
@@327SixShooter I know exactly what you’re saying. My buddy has one and I was always an admirer but like his I wanted the “X” version. Was at my locals gun shop a few months back and low and behold there it was; pun intended I pulled the trigger on that purchase so fast, I didn’t even ask to see it; I just got a salesman’s attention and said I’ll take that LCRX .327 right there. Shortly there after, ordered up some .32 S&W dies and various calibered brass and bullets and here I am. IMO, like the .38Spl the .32 is one of the best calibers to have on hand for just about everything. I like the .327 federal Mag for carry but honestly feel that the .32 H&R Mag is a better carry option. There’s plenty of stopping power there and better for quick follow up shots if needed. I am also pretty old school when it comes to defensive carry. I carry wad cutters as defensive rounds and religiously practice the thought of shot placement over sheer power of the round I’m carrying. Don’t get me wrong, my reloads are the full power 100gr Buffalo Bore .327 FedMag and I wouldn’t hesitate to deploy them, but IMO, they are just too powerful for up close and personal use.
I love the 9mm semi auto AND I love the 327 for its SIX rounds in snubby with great ballistics...glad you did this video to show people how effective these two cartridges are...thanks much !!
Wonder what that 130gr Outdoorsman (hardcast Keith bullet) from Buffalo Bore would accomplish? The 100gr .327 runs a .147 sectional density, which is equivalent to exactly 130gr 9mm (explains the .327 penetrating a bit deeper than 124gr 9mm). The 130gr .327 runs a .191 sectional density, equivalent to 170gr .357mag.
Yep! .327 wins! You make this a very appealing carry option! I agree that capacity has its place, but for the average CCW holder running to the grocery store for example, a revolver like this makes perfect sense.
Gun Sam you are always spot-on with your tests and results. I wonder if the ammo manufacturers could make a .327 magnum Bear defense load and have a 6 inch 8 shot revolver made to order for it. Just thinking 🧐
🇺🇸🇺🇸Happy 4th of July🇺🇸🇺🇸 ......Another interesting video Samm Thanks buddy The only issue I see where the 9mm beats the 327mag is diameter of the bullet being a bit smaller, but than the actual velocity that the 327 travels at makes it hit harder which means more force 🤷🏻♂️ Honestly I think picking up the right ammunition is going to be the way to get the most out of each of these calibers...
Nice! Its a bit strange that some good ammo dont like to expand in your gel. Magtech has a 95gr 9mm rated with 1345fps. So this would be very close to the .327 Or S&B 100gr rated with 1404fps.
That 327 is solid, I don't think it would be a issue to carry if it had a 3 1/2 to 4 Inch option and the bump in performance would be pretty significant
That's got to be nice in a 5". I never really got a grasp of ballistics of the .327 in longer barrels. Like for .357 I could name energy in a 2", 4", 6", 18" off my head like 400, 550, 600, 1,000....but the .327 is still a mystery to me, as I only understand the snub ballistics as that's what I test.
I hate that Speer dropped the 115gr Gold Dot in .327 Federal. Still have a few rounds of it left that I haven't shot up and keep in the gun. But the 100gr Gold Dot is definitely a close second favorite of mine as far as .327 Federal Magnum defensive loads go. If my supply was limited though I'd feel comfortable with those Federal American Eagle 100gr JSP's. Done a lot of .327 shooting and testing, even in a 3 inch barrel like my SP101 it's cruising over 1,400 fps with 100gr bullets. 115gr bullets even when +P or +P+ don't get numbers like that in 4-5 inch handguns typically. Often you got to drop down to 90gr loads or lighter. But even comparing 115gr to 115gr, the SP101 was usually chronographing 1,350 to 1,370 fps average where as 9mm +P 115gr's were maybe 1,100 to 1,180 max.
I’ve learned a lot about ballistic performance and hollow point expansion over the last couple of years, mostly by watching your videos. After all that I think this is my favorite test you’ve done. It was one of the major factors that convinced me to go find a Ruger LCR in 327. I like a lot of calibers and I think in the end bullet placement is more important than caliber in a real fight, but 327 seems to be the sweet spot in velocity, energy, recoil, penetration, and carry capacity (if you like snub nose revolvers like me). Thanks for all the great info over the years.
Great Video! I usually agree with everything you put out but I don't believe the 327 rivals a 357. I am however looking to get a 327 if I can find one!! As always, enjoyed the video and keep them coming!!
Thanks, in a larger pistol no it don't rival .357 Mag, but in a snub nose it really does with the right load. This Gold Dot .327 Mag has higher energy than about 75% of the .357 Mag loads I have ran in the Taurus 605 2". The other 25% do beat the .327 Mag, so as a whole the .357 Mag wins, however it wins with what feels like 100% more recoil, at least that's how it feels to me.
Excellent video. Love the 327, although as you and everyone noted, hard to find ammo. Best part of the video was at the end where you put the “capacity” argument to rest. People get way to hung up on capacity. Be confident and proficient with your 5 or 6 rounds and you’ll survive a civilian deadly force encounter.
@@GunSam How would you compare LCR 327 magnum six shot with Ruger LCP max 380. If in fact three shots at 3 yards in three seconds is the average encounter and the LCP Max is quite a bit lighter What about that firearm as edc?
The .327 is probably the closest to the perfect round for a small frame revolver there is so far. Well above .38+p power and just under .357 with the same velocity, less recoil and a sixth shot. Too bad Federal screwed the pooch when it first came out.
I love the Ruger LCR line. I'm in the process of buying one in every caliber available for totally legitimate reasons. Or at least that's what I tell myself to feel better 😆
I love the 327 when I can find it. It really really fly's out of a Henry. When my lottery money comes in I'll have to buy you a 5in 327 by lipsey's it's gorgeous. I'll have to to a Henry for you also. Great video!
Thank you for ANOTHER useful video! That velocity from the snubby is ASTOUNDING! Not to mention your accuracy at 75 yards! As the ogre in the commercial says to the Gecko, "Very IMPRESSIVE, Green One!" I searched your vids for the Ruger 57 5.7X28 and can't find one. Have you tested the gun or the cartridge before? I would love your opinion. I can't get the 57 out of my head---we here in the Northwest are a hundred years late for our mega-quake. I don't expect the mobs of "street people" here to be polite when they run out of drugs......and WATER!.............................elsullo
I hate to admit how old I am but back in the day before I was old enough to have an opinion I knew certain administration officers who carried the old standby 38sw and 32long revolvers as duty weapons. With what they called training back in the day some of these weapons wear never fired in the line of duty. I do agree that in today's society these would be under gunned for any law enforcement work but the few times I have seen the results of these under rated calibers fired there was a new grave to be filled
As always, great shooting at 75 yards! I relate to your videos as I have shot most types of .327 rounds out of my SP101. I also have a LCR in 38 special. Way to keep it interesting!
Enjoy watching your videos! I've been intrigued with 327 Federal for a long time and wish ammo availability for it was better. That being said @21:28 I'd have to disagree with your assessment. The 327 Federal does not rival the 357 Magnum. The 327 Federal is on par with 9 mm +P rounds. The .357mag walks away rapidly in terms of terminal power and bullet weight range availability. I would still get a 327 revolver for certain personal defense / carry situations, but with a lack of Factory ammunition available and in general a shortage overall, it's tough to go that route at this time.
But 350 to 450 FPE is exactly what I get for energy in my 2" .357 Mag snub. So while the cartridge itself will not rival it in a rifle barrel, in a snub it does for sure. Hot .38+P or 9mm+P is 350 FPE in a snub, but the .327 is getting up there well over 400 FPE, or exactly what a good .357 Mag is in a snub.
@@GunSam Thank you Sam for the great videos.👍 What were the bullets used out of your snub nose .357? While the .327's(100 & 115gr are heavy for caliber which increases sectional density and helps with penetration, the cartridge and loads peter out after that. The .357mag 125gr defense loads are on the low end of its range and go up to 180gr. So I guess my question is what .38cal bullet weight are you comparing with the .32's? 115gr .32cal @ 1300fps yields 431ftlb energy from 3.187in brl.. 125gr .38 @ 1450fps yields 583ftlb energy from 4in brl.(granted these lengths aren't the same and from Wikipedia) Also, consider bullet diameter/ wound channel. Speed isn't the only factor to consider. I stand by my statement that .327 fed (while being a pleasant round to shoot, which certainly increases control/accuracy potential) being touted as a rival to the .357mag is a stretch. That being said.....first chance I get I'm getting one😊 Lol. Actually the daughter is looking at one. Keep up the videos. Happy Independence Day!🇺🇸
Most excellent p.s.a. ! 327 fm has become very expensive both in revolver and ammo. I’m hoping it will hit a revival and stick around at a more affordable level. Thanks man!
You have the best gun tests on youtube . More handguns were made in the past in 32 than any other. I prefer 3 inch bbl over snub . How is the 327 to reload ? I would have to decide between 327 & 357 target load for carry. The 357 has the edge on trails.
I appreciate that you cover the subject of sectional density in most of these videos and how that relates to actual performance. All too often there is the assumption that light weight will equal under penetration and vise versa. I have seen less penetration from some .44 mag rounds on here and these little 100 grn. bullets are expected to barely be effective due to lack of penetration. Obviously that is not the case. While I still have my own bias towards a larger diameter bullet I am growing less biased against light weight bullets. Now it's just the size of the hole but not so much the penetration that I am concerned with. This video makes me want to re-watch those old .327 vs .38+P and .357 videos.
Over penetration appears to be something to be concerned with. Do we really want a round that penetrates 6, 2x2s for defense at a convenience store robbery while other people are in the store?
@@johnholbrook6042 I'm not saying that OVER penetration isn't a concern, or at least factor. If you notice my comment actually just addressed the topic of how light weight bullets are typically only thought to potentially under penetrate but rarely, if ever, over penetrate. I was saying that in some cases this is not true due to the sectional density of the bullet. Just as a heavy bullet doesn't always translate to overpenetration. Some rounds do produce enough hard target penetration that I wouldn't want it for SD in certain environments for that reason. In the wilderness that would not be a concern to me but yes, as you stated, in some situations it is a factor to me for sure. Under-penetration is also a concern though and in many tests, like the famous PH meat target, very rarely were expanding bullets carrying enough energy after exiting the target to be of any significant hazard. How much I would want to lean in a given direction depends entirely on the surroundings and scenario the round is chosen for.
Thanks. Yeah, it should have. The .32 S&W Long is still pretty popular, but it just does not hold up in the modern world. If you don't have capacity you need power, and the .32 Long does not have either.
I read FOUR gun magazines when it came out, and all the reviewers were impressed with the round. BUT they all wondered if it would become popular and last, or become another orphan cartridge---guaranteeing that it would be iffy. BUT, it did last because of its attributes, and is finally catching on!..........................elsullo
Hey Sam cool video yes 327 mag awesome caliber like it lot when first came out . But for some reason never cought on well for ammo easy to find. Cool thing just start making lever-action rifles in it.
That 327 is such an intriguing cartridge... 🤔 Very capable & more often, I'm guilty of underestimating it's performance in short barrels. I really wish I could add a good 327 revolver & lever gun to my collection, just so I could get set up to reload for the family of 32's. Reloading 9, 380 & 38 is fun but... its starting to get a little boring. I need something new, something different, some excitement, some "strange" in my life! 🤣 Great video man, thanks for sharing it 👍
Thanks. I have reloaded all of the .32's except the .32 ACP. The most fun is a .32 H&R Mag with fast powder and an 85 gr bullet. Those will do 1,000 FPS with no recoil, at least as my perception of recoil goes, yet they move fast and hit hard. The .327 Mag is hard to reload unless you are skillful at reloading magnum ammo. Whenever I try to reload even .357 Mag I don't crimp enough to get the right pressure. The .32 H&R is more like a .38 Special, simple and easy just load with regular old 9mm powder and go.
Hey Sam, what do u think about using Buffalo Bore 32 H & R mag loads from that LCR? They are hot like most all BB loads, super manageable to shoot, and get like 365 ft. lbs out of that stubby...seems like a great set up imo, wondering yours?
I have a S&W 3" Airweight Centennial in 32 H&R Magnum. I have fired a dozen Buffalo Bore "+P" rounds and found absolutely no damage or wear to the gun from them. More blast and recoil, but still very manageable! I carry Hornady Critical Defense rounds only for the guaranteed expansion...........................elsullo
I've been wanting to pick up a little LCR Ruger in 327 but I think I'm going to wait for ammo to become more available. I never see it anywhere and I can still pick up 9mm.
Very nice comparison. Thank you. ... I've been enamored of the .327 Federal not as a self defense cartridge but as a field revolver in a Ruger Single Six with a 7 shot cylinder. ... Gun Sam, I'm curious as to why you dumped your brass, saying the caliber is "hard to reload." ... I've always found rimmed, roll crimped revolver calibers much, much easier to reload than rimless, taper crimped semiauto calibers. ... What do you find difficult about reloading .327 Fed?
I normally save the brass, I just didn't feel like saving those while I talked as my save bin was 50 yards away. The process of reloading it itself is not too difficult beyond nearly impossible to resize brass that sticks in the dies, but what I mean is making a powerful .327 load is not easy. I have nothing but fast powder for .38 Special/9mm and the like, I would max out at 1,100 FPS with a max charge and not 1,400 FPS. It's just not worth it to me to reload it as i'd have to go out and order magnum powder/primers. When I reload target ammo I just use .32 H&R Mag brass and get some nice loads for practice.
How is case extraction Speer v Buffalo Bore? If you solved the extraction issue with BB, please share how it was done. Love the videos. Keep 'em coming. Thanks!
great test Sam, I had no idea 327 mags are that potent. Do you carry your reloads.? The LCR does make a good carry gun, I sometimes carry my .38. Thanks for your detailed tests.!
I don't typically carry handloads, unless I am headed out to the range and I want to train with my carry gun, those days I might drive with the gun full of my shooter loads.
Great video, testing, and presentation. Baby Magnum sure does beat 9mm. .327Mag is a force to be reckoned with. Both impressive rounds. Hopefully the weapon/ammo crisis ends soon get a .327 as I'm sure many of your viewers will get one for their arsenal. 🎩☯️♠️
That 327 gold dot is perfect for self defense. 6 for sure rounds with 18inches of penetration with that expansion is optimal. Carry a speed strip if you’ve got “battling terrorists at the mall” fantasies but imo those 6 rounds will take care of 99% of self defense needs. I love the 327mag! Once again great test! 👍🏻
I wish the 327 mag was a little more popular. Ps are you in MI I seen you wearing a Jays sporting goods t shirt in your video plus it looks like you had a lot of rain.
I got a 856 Ultralight today, and put blue VZ grips on it. still needa paint the front sight. Wife is away. when firecrackers start popping tonight, imma go out in the back yard and put some rounds into the firewood. All I have is Remington 125 grain +p SJHP's.
That's seriously one of the best carry loads out there. I have tested the HTP version which is the same as the UMC and Express and all of that, and they do great, like over 900 FPS in a snub and expand nice.
First. I'm glad that the upload time frame works well for me. As for .327 goes, I thought I saw a 8 shot version. If I get this right, the .327 gives one the power&penetration above the 9mm with a 4'' barrel with a shorter barrel.
I believe that the GP100 size gun holds 7 rounds of .327 Mag, you would think with them now holding 7 of .357 Mag than an 8 shot would be possible as well as a 9 shot in a Redhawk/S&W N frame size gun. I could see a lot of people buying something like that, like a 9 shot Redhawk (as S&W will never make a .327 Mag again).
You've sold me on .327 being a great cartridge, still If I got an LCR to T&E it would be 9mm for training cost/availability/cross compatibility even though down 1 rd. Would like to see what those .327 gold dots would do out of a 4" sp101...kind of the ultimate grandpa gun w .327 and ultimate Grandma gun w .32 magnums. Too bad .327 and .32 magnum are so expensive. 9mm from a snub is a nice inbetween .38 and .357 too hot for rapid shooting loads
One day I will get a 9mm snub. I have been curious for a long time how they would do. It don't hurt I have a 9mm reloading die either, as this makes saving 9mm brass for reloading perfect.
I love how people forget the .32 has been carried far longer by military and police in the United States . Yet most people look down at the .32 a proven stopped. And it doesn't beat you like a .357.

i cant believe that 2 inch barrel was making 1400 fps its amazing
That energy measurement of the 327 Mag is so helpful out of a snubby. You’re one of the few who actually test ammo and handguns in their typical use versus best case scenario using 4” barrels. Great job!
To be fair I use longer barrels too lol
^ agreed
Thanks!
The gun you will carry is better then the Gucci gun you leave at home.
Thanks for watching!
I really appreciate the videos... you're awesome... I'd love to see .327mag vs .357mag out of those snubbys
Thanks. I used to do a series on the .327 VS .357 but in water jugs.
I’d love to see that comparison as well.
Thank you.
I have the 4 in SP101 in 327, I like it.
My wife knows when I'm attending ballistics class at Gun Sam University by the theme song. Lol the look she gives me. Great video my brother in arms.
I need a popcorn emoticon. 😀
🍿🍿
Excellent video. You’re preaching to the choir with the 327 Federal. Own a LCRx and a SP101 in 327. Soft shooter in the SP101.
Thank you.
Really nice and consistent performance out of that .327, particularly considering it is out of a tiny snubnose. Impressive.
Best ballistics channel on RUclips
Thank you
Thanks for a very complete exam of this relatively new kid on the block. This is a cartridge an old timer like me wouldn't mind shooting.
Awesome Video! Didn't even know that a .327 Federal Mag existed!
Still my new favorite gun ❤️
Another first class video.. Go revolver!!!
Its a great gun
I wonder why s&w are not making a j frame 327 mag?
@@joelmclamore1139 they made one for a very short time but they would rather focus on making different color ez380s instead of doing something new.
Wow! That wood penetration was a big surprise. I didn't think either would go so deep.
Yeah, it's crazy. I have stopped .44 Mag soft point in board 3/4. But 6/7 with .327 and 9mm!
@@GunSam Not that it will necessarily result in different results but now I think we need to see 9mm vs .327 FedMag, in FMJ penetration testing.
I miss the revolver years a much simpler time. .357 38 special 32 S&W the 327 came late to the game. Still like shooting them!
I have a lcr357 as my back up. Nice platform.
Dude that little 327 out of that tiny barrel was movingggggg
good point about number of shots.most of the police shooting videos the officer(s) pretty much do a mag dump into the offending object.
Yep! .327 wins! You make this a very appealing carry option! I agree that capacity has its place, but for the average CCW holder running to the grocery store for example, a revolver like this makes perfect sense.
Great work here, Sam.
Gun Sam you are always spot-on with your tests and results. I wonder if the ammo manufacturers could make a .327 magnum Bear defense load and have a 6 inch 8 shot revolver made to order for it. Just thinking 🧐
🇺🇸🇺🇸Happy 4th of July🇺🇸🇺🇸 ......Another interesting video Samm Thanks buddy
The only issue I see where the 9mm beats the 327mag is diameter of the bullet being a bit smaller, but than the actual velocity that the 327 travels at makes it hit harder which means more force 🤷🏻♂️ Honestly I think picking up the right ammunition is going to be the way to get the most out of each of these calibers...
That 327 was smoking hot.
Quality video as always. You are making me want a .327. i have a birthday coming soon, I may need to get myself a gift.
Nice! Its a bit strange that some good ammo dont like to expand in your gel. Magtech has a 95gr 9mm rated with 1345fps. So this would be very close to the .327 Or S&B 100gr rated with 1404fps.
That 327 is solid,
I don't think it would be a issue to carry if it had a 3 1/2 to 4 Inch option and the bump in performance would be pretty significant
327 fed is such a fantastic cartridge. Got a 5" GP100 awhile back and love it and also got an LCR snubbie in it as well.
I've been interested in the 327 ever since I saw a video on them but every time I go to the local gun shops I've never seen one
Glad I found your channel, this is fun to watch and I am learning too. Thanks.
I like ur test setup. Good job
Thank you
@@GunSam How would you compare LCR 327 magnum six shot with Ruger LCP max 380. If in fact three shots at 3 yards in three seconds is the average encounter and the LCP Max is quite a bit lighter
What about that firearm as edc?
Thanks Sam! So happy you got a beautiful day to do a video for us.
Yes Sir
I have a clip too
I love Ruger lcr 327 federal magnum
I want the lcrx 327 mag bad. Can't find one anywhere. Your tests have sold me on that round for sure.
Man you just made me save money to get a .327 magnum now. I'm waiting to see hopefully the 2a industry to start restocking them.
The .327 is probably the closest to the perfect round for a small frame revolver there is so far. Well above .38+p power and just under .357 with the same velocity, less recoil and a sixth shot. Too bad Federal screwed the pooch when it first came out.
I really enjoy your videos! Those Ruger lcr's are just plain fun to shoot.
I love the Ruger LCR line. I'm in the process of buying one in every caliber available for totally legitimate reasons. Or at least that's what I tell myself to feel better 😆
That 327 Federal Magnum continues to impress me. So does your shooting.
Thanks!
Thanks for providing this information! I’m going to have to look at a .327… 👍👍👍👍
I love the 327 when I can find it. It really really fly's out of a Henry. When my lottery money comes in I'll have to buy you a 5in 327 by lipsey's it's gorgeous. I'll have to to a Henry for you also. Great video!
Thanks. I saw that one, looks like a .44 Mag or something by dimensions. I would buy it but it's not available.
@@GunSam yeah production is still down. It's a nice 7 shot.
Scarce as hens teeth, Ruger needs to step up production. Great video thanks.
Thanks.
And the ammo is almost impossible to find having to reload
Thank you for ANOTHER useful video! That velocity from the snubby is ASTOUNDING! Not to mention your accuracy at 75 yards! As the ogre in the commercial says to the Gecko, "Very IMPRESSIVE, Green One!"
I searched your vids for the Ruger 57 5.7X28 and can't find one.
I haven't tested it, but have thought about is as I found one fore sale.
Thank you
Enjoy watching your videos!
There is a S&B 100gr load in 9mm that is rated with 1404fps. So this would be as equal as it could be.
Happy Independence Day!🇺🇸
If you’re comparing snubbies, .327 does rival .357 while being easier to shoot. In longer barrels the advantage goes to the .357.
That 327 is such an interesting cartridge.
I'm so tempted to get a revolver and a Henry lever action rifle chambered alike
love my 327. I carry gold dots actually
I AM A OLD MAN WHO ENJOYS YOU CONTENT
Most excellent p.s.a. ! 327 fm has become very expensive both in revolver and ammo. I’m hoping it will hit a revival and stick around at a more affordable level. Thanks man!
You have the best gun tests on youtube . More handguns were made in the past in 32 than any other. I prefer 3 inch bbl over snub . How is the 327 to reload ? I would have to decide between 327 & 357 target load for carry. The 357 has the edge on trails.
Yea But But but... LOL Good job man. I'm trying not to go to the range today but you are making it difficult.
327 is a great round. I'm surprised it didn't become more popular. Good vid. Thanks👍!
Thanks. Yeah, it should have. The .32 S&W Long is still pretty popular, but it just does not hold up in the modern world. If you don't have capacity you need power, and the .32 Long does not have either.
@@GunSam 👍!
Never heard of 327 caliber Enjoy watching the channel Have a good weekend
Thank you
Welcome
Convinced me, I'll keep my .327
Always great tests! Thanks for doing them.
Hey Sam cool video yes 327 mag awesome caliber like it lot when first came out . But for some reason never cought on well for ammo easy to find. Cool thing just start making lever-action rifles in it.
I really wish Ruger would make the LCRX 3" in the .327 Federal Magnum
They have basically identical energy and felt recoil as the .327 version. I would carry them the same as I would the .327 version. And I have!
@@cybister4864 if I didn't have problems with previous charter revolver, I would have bought it in 327
Haha, before the wood shots you’re like, no way we’ll need seven boards. Crazy.
I've been wanting to pick up a little LCR Ruger in 327 but I think I'm going to wait for ammo to become more available. I never see it anywhere and I can still pick up 9mm.
Well if you can find .32 S&W Long, that does really well in a .327 revolver.
Always a good and interesting video. Thanks for your work. Take care.
Thanks. Take care
How is case extraction Speer v Buffalo Bore? If you solved the extraction issue with BB, please share how it was done.
Love the videos. Keep 'em coming. Thanks!
A tad smoother with Buffalo Bore. The last batch of Gold Dot I had from years ago was really sticky to extract, but these ones are not at all.
great test Sam, I had no idea 327 mags are that potent.
👍 I do like the 327mag
Great video, testing, and presentation. Baby Magnum sure does beat 9mm. .327Mag is a force to be reckoned with. Both impressive rounds. Hopefully the weapon/ammo crisis ends soon get a .327 as I'm sure many of your viewers will get one for their arsenal. 🎩☯️♠️
Thanks!

10:18 Sam just shoots $900 worth of lumber in today's economy like it's no big deal 🤣
was able to make with one of the 2x4's. But at like 9 bucks vs a few years ago being 2
@@GunSam That's actually pretty nice operation you got there. I was just joking out the price of lumber these days.
Hmm,I don't think the cartridge will take off but it is a little beast for sure,I would pack it and feel ok.
👍👍Thanks Sam!!
Thanks. If I needed a reload I would use an LCP on the ankle with .380
@@GunSam there ya go the ol’ “New York reload” just kindof reversed. Lol 😆
I wish the 327 mag was a little more popular. Ps are you in MI I seen you wearing a Jays sporting goods t shirt in your video plus it looks like you had a lot of rain.
yeah
You will have to explain that further.
How difficult is it to find 327 magnum and the .32 family of ammo that will fit in a 327? Also, have you had any issues with the Ruger LCR 327?
LCR327 With Gold dots is my carry combo
$800 worth of ammo and $1100 worth of wood 🤣
When I used to do wood tests in 2017 is was like $2.20 a 2x4. Now it's like $8+.
@@GunSam that’s insane !
Very interesting… I would still choose .357 sig for better shoot ability, and greater capacity though. The .327 would make a great bug!
I love how people forget the .32 has been carried far longer by military and police in the United States . Yet most people look down at the .32 a proven stopped. And it doesn't beat you like a .357.
