I feel like this also comes with some sort of privilege haha…not to be a killjoy, but meeting a partner while travelling, getting over LDR and making them join you in SG isn’t all that simple. being able to relocate into Singapore from a foreign country, leaving your obligation to be with your family behind, and build an independent, comfortable life as foreigners here, is extremely difficult and expensive. Just the basic things, like housing, you are only entitled to buy a private housing like condominiums. You also have to qualify in the competitive job market which expects you to be highly educated and valuable etc, given your status…generally the logistics are just highly complicated. I’m saying this as an immigrant myself. Wish they had talked about this aspect more so as not to romanticise this too much
Agree on this, wonder what's next after Thorir's masters is over and is it because of the pandemic that Tia and Khairi decide to get married in 2020 and also is it because it will be easier for her to get a job in Singapore if she's married to Khairi?
We all need a guy to look at us the way Thorir looks at Melody.. 😍

Why is it that whenever there is a white and Chinese couple, there's always thinly veiled racism in the top comments? Or if someone speaks something other than Singlish, it's a problem? Yes, asian fetishization is a real thing but there's nth in this video to suggest that is the case what. She studied in UK, she met him after graduation in South America and came back to SG. She's a lawyer and he's at uni now - what about that is dating for status? Yall tripping in the comments. If it was any other mixed race couple, this wouldn't be a thing.

yeah, it generally stems from fetishisation but not all.
Yes... Not always, but my Indian friend at work asked this and it's the in thing with white dudes.. But the Asian women also buy into it too due to status and the movies.
We live in an era where race doesn't matter as much as it did back then. People are more open minded about mixed race relationships. So I suppose that is one of the reasons as to why mixed race relationships are more common today. However, I do agree that stereotypes and fetishes exists. I hope you're not implying that is the most common reason this is happening today. Cuz it's kinda rude since anyone can like/love anyone at any given circumstance. No hard feelings on your question tho. Its totally valid.

It's not yellow fever, stats have shown it's much more about white fever and asian girls treating mixed children like it's some high school eugenics project.

@@osirusj275 Usual mindsets are to go for locals, easier and it's typically what everyone around us does. Why go through all the trouble when it can be done locally?

@@osirusj275 But having both to have this same mentality is rare especially now with the pandemic, sudden travel restrictions around the world and not knowing when the world will shut down completely again. Those are some huge barriers that they have to deal with to have this diversity. And even if you found ways to travel over to the other country but risking of getting infected with the virus or even passing the virus over to your partner when you reach his/her country. Don't think that sounds like a happily ever after to me, more like till death do us apart. I think 9 out of 10 people will choose LDR.

Interesting comments on this video especially on the asian girl with the white guy. And I don’t think it’s racist to point out the obvious. I think it’s pretty easy to see that she’s trying really hard to put on an accent for the guy and quite frankly it’s sad. Having been an exchange student in Singapore, I’ve first hand seen how numerous asian girls (not all) seem to throw themselves at white men and then put on pretentious accents. It’s always the less attractive or ones with asian fetishes that tend to entertain girls like that. On a side note, the malay couple were absolutely adorable!
