The symphony orchestra, which is one of the greatest contributions to humanity by Western Civilization, remains and will always be the indisputable force to unite a divided and cynical world through glorious sound and expression.
This is Strauss' opus magnum and is one of the most descriptive tone poems that allows one's imagination to enjoy an Alpine mountain trek even without a printed program.

Fabulous - I got to know this lovely piece of music from the superb recording Haitink and the Concertgebouworkest made of it in the ‘80s - he’s always excelled in Strauss -

they're rotary trumpets

Rotary valve trumpets. A brass instrument has a slightly different sound when made with rotor valves. Some tubas have the rotor valves, and of course almost all french horns
