The nice think about an i9 is it's going to be a higher binned processor and you'll get more Ghz out of it at a lower voltage. You could try disabling some of the cores, lowering the voltage and increasing the ghz to make it faster and more efficient.

      @unnamed715 Год назад +13

Agreed. Drives me nuts when people recommend turning v-sync off. Not only does it stress your CPU and make the cooler sound like a jet engine if you're using an air cooler, but tearing is far more annoying than input lag.

For me it really depends on the game. When I'm playing a game I'm really familiar with I notice it quite a bit. Like if I'm playing TF2 with vsync on it feels terrible/sluggish, but if I'm playing battelfield it's not too bad. I do generally cap my framerate, but not with vsync. I do agree that the absolute maximum fps usually isn't as important as good frame pacing. I would rather use freesync/gsync when possible though.

If you wanted more cpu power headroom you could tradeoff with a slight UV on your gpu, at least until the heatsink starts holding you back. No way! I used a 10900k in an almost identical way this month, in a 5.1L ITX gaming system (with an RX6600 XT instead of a 3060). Rather than limiting the CPU wattage, I went a different route: disabling 4 cores in BIOS and undervolting by about 100mV. The result is a 6 core 12 thread CPU that runs at a solid 5.1ghz without overwhelming the Noctua L9i, or stressing the repurposed 400w Flex ATX server PSU. Perfect for gaming.
I thought I was the only one crazy enough to misuse a 10900k like this, but it makes a lot of sense in its own weird way.

I went on the market to look for a MSI Trident 3 however they are pretty rare and overpriced on eBay considering the specs as most come with the 180 power supply (buying a 330w supply costs about £100) after some research I found that the latest Alienware X51 R3 has a 330w power supply as standard.
It was Alienwares last true SFF gaming PC. I managed to bag one on eBay with the highest spec at the time (2016) i7-6700, 1060 6GB, 16GB ram & NVME for £250, it was great as is but now I put a RX6600 in there (using 2x6 pin to single 8 pin power adapter) it’s a pretty awesome console sized gaming PC that is perfect for the living room.
Looking to add HoloISO soon too and make my own Steam Machine 😬👌

I bought one used actually with a 9th Gen Intel and then days later saw someone with a 11th Gen Intel version, but cheaper? and turned out he only had this a week so it was literally like new so I ended up selling one and having one that's pretty much brand new!
I'm surprised you upgraded the CPU because mine is the I5-11400F and thatdoes 1440p perfect. It's never struggling or high percentage during gaming. My plan was to wait forsomething like a RTX 4050 down the line. I'm in no rush! I'd still like to keep down to a 230w power supply and work my way round it than upgrade and make it more hungry.
I think it's amazing! Love the fact it's actually really light and smaller than a PS5! It's like having a console design for a PC and yet all the main stuff is fully upgradeable and it's super easy move around should I want take it into my living room and play on the big TV. MSI had something going on here, these should be far more popular.

There is a case for creating a device that could house 4090 and decent cpu with adjustable wattage for traveling. Lower for plane sockets, full for hotels, airbnbs. The use case would be to stream to 1) handheld like Razer Edge 2) VR like Oculus 2 or 3 3) XR glasses like Virtue One. Basically it would be something between laptops and desktops with reasonable weight and portability.

Warning to everyone!!! Don't buy one of these. I had one of these for only a year before the motherboard died, right outside of warranty. One of the chips was determined to be a ticking time bomb and the issue was so widespread there were people trying to start a class action but I don't think it gained any traction. MSI didn't make the computer anymore so they had no replacement boards and because of the form factor the motherboard was proprietary. To add onto this MSI doesn't do board level work. This means I couldn't even pay MSI to replace or fix the motherboard and I also couldn't just buy a standard one off the shelf. In the end I had to get a new PC. Avoid my nightmare. If you're going to drop a lot of money on a SFF PC build it yourself so you can easily replace the parts or at the very least don't buy one from MSI.

For the love of… can you PLEASE test MULTIPLE RESOLUTIONS???
IE, what does it run 4K at? Can 1080 reach 120fps or would I need to output at 720 for that? Actual TELEVISION resolutions
These are supposed to be consoles… which mean obviously they’re going to be compared to the PS5/Series-X… so wouldn’t it be nice to actually use the highest resolution those output at???
We don’t need more than 60 frames per second unless you’re monitors running at 120hz or higher than 60 to begin with, and this product is going to get hooked up to a living room TV with likely a 60 hertz refresh rate…
…so just TEST IT IN 4K.
Some of us have 4K60 screens… some have 120 or 240 hertz… some only have 1080p, while others are somewhere in the middle…
But I have NEVER SEEN A 1440p TV… and this is a console that’s obviously going to be hooked up to a TV…so can you please TREAT THESE LIKE CONSOLES and test them at actual television resolutions? 720p, 1080p, 4K, etc.
Nothing would prevent you from also testing 1440, but testing ONLY 1440 on a device that’s marketed to end up on a 1080 or 4K display is all but POINTLESS.

A lot of your benchmarks were sitting at 50-80% GPU usage, any reason? (I understand a steady 60 is the goal for some of these titles, but I'm not talking about those)

With 247W being the maximum (at the wall), any reason not to remove the power limits and see what it gets to? My feeling is that you might be leaving some “free” performance on the table here. Combine with an undervolt, and you might find you have it stable+fast

Would using a I9 10900T in this instead of K be easier? Or is that basically just the equivalent of an i5 10400

I'm pretty sure you would've gotten better performance with a 10700K/KF, even having to limit the TDP, just because of having more room for single core performance.
I love the form factor, I think this size and distribution of components should be the future for gaming PCs. However, this one in particular is a barebone PC with a proprietary motherboard design, impeding a full upgrade, that alone kills it for me. I'm pretty sure you can get to a similar size with an ITX board, the only issue would be making the PSU external. Thin-ITX should be ideal, but unfortunately it didn't take off as a form factor.

I hope this never becomes the future for gaming pc's, glorified proprietary laptops with no monitor does not sound like my idea of a good gaming pc time.

    • @sovo1212

@@Vicorcivius Agree, though compared to laptops it has the advantage of allowing CPU and GPU upgrades, it still has a proprietary base.

I just had an MSI trident 3 and honestly it was not very good... Mine was a i5 12400 and 3060 and it ran at 90°c almost constantly.. case has very little airflow and in order to get adequate cooling, you have to run the fans at 100% and it sounds like a jet engine at your desk. My decibel meter was reading 60 at about 3-5 feet away. Not worth it at all. If MSI wants to keep stuffing better and better components in a case designed from 2016 they need to figure out airflow badly.
