They're good Zelda games and a bit unique in their worlds and mechanics, given that they were released on the gameboy and had the same style as LA I believe having the same style in remake would be fitting.

    The Zelda Timeline is built like a fork, the spot where the timeline splits is Ocarina of Time because it messed with time traveling, thus creating 3 individual timelines. The OG OoT may just look like a mess of polygons now, but it was absolutely groundbreaking when it was released! The Official Zelda timeline is a bit of a mess, admittedly. Without getting too much into spoilers, the different timeline branches stem from the events in Ocarina of Time, since in that game you play as Link as both a child and an adult. What gets really confusing is when Nintendo revealed the official timeline, they added a third branch, where Link is defeated.
    In Breath of the Wild, it takes place 10,000 years after the events of the timeline, so it’s implied in that game, Zelda and the others know of all of the other games as legends, or possibly the timeline repeated itself to make all events happen before the events of BOTW. (Or maybe Nintendo just wanted to reference other games and nothing else)
    It’s a big mess, and no one ever thought of a third branch where Link is defeated, so it took everyone by a HUGE surprise. All you really need to know is Skyward Sword is the start of everything in the overall Zelda lore, while BOTW is farthest in the timeline (as of right now). Hyrule Warriors is a mashup of all timelines/games and doesn’t effect the timeline, but Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity is going to be a direct prequel to BOTW.
    Hope this helps you!

    • @darthg1zmo21
      @darthg1zmo21 3 года назад +1

      The hyrule warriors botw prequel will ruin things even more if it is going to be canon. The egg apparently time travels so it could mean that botw never happens and botw 2 is a continuation of this prequel. But if the the egg fails in helping or finishing whatever it is doing then it would be a weird timeline loop and it wouldn’t make much since and it would ultimately be the most useless story.

    • @rosietales
      @rosietales 3 года назад +1

      @@darthg1zmo21 it is canon but I see it as the guardian egg time traveling to save the world as a failure anyway so botw comes in but we will need to see how the prequel story works. It might actually enlighten us in what the sequel might bring us.

    • @rosietales
      @rosietales 3 года назад

      What is even more confusing and a lot of people overlook is botw is 100 years after the calamity and 10,000 after the legend they tell in the game (where they find the divine beasts and have guardians around) so it might be even further down the timeline. Not to mention how different the whole world looks even though it has places we know from other series.

      I kind of think of BotW as a reboot. The whole Zelda timelines thing is essentially one giant retcon anyway. Whenever they make a new Zelda game, they're always focused on making it a good game, mostly in isolation. They keep elements that make it a "zelda game" but otherwise, they seem to treat it in a vacuum until it's done. Then they shoehorn it in somewhere. I don't remember ever seeing the multiple timelines model appear until after Twilight Princess came out. By that point, it was a total impossibility to fit it between any other two entries in the series.
      The continuity breaks had already started happening with Windwaker though. Up until that point, everything more or less fit. When I originally played OoT, it was obvious to me that this was the sealing war, except that it didn't quite fit to have Gannondorf outside of the dark world prior to being sealed. But it didn't matter too much because discrepancies in continuity between OoT and ALttP could be easily explained as the details getting messed up over time in the re-telling of the legends. But Wind Waker being officially sequel to OoT pretty much broke any chance of single timeline continuity with the whole flood thing. Had they made it fall after AoL, then we may not have had the 3 timelines thing.

    Majora's Mask is like a narrow well, but once you dive down, you realize it goes down deeper than you ever expected.

    I'm happy to see that outside of the success the Breath of the Wild playthrough has given you, you have a genuine interest in the Zelda franchise! Really you can't go wrong with any Zelda game (except the Philips CDI games but we don't talk about those) but if I had to limit it to 3 titles to give a shot after BotW:
    1) Link's Awakening (Switch) - Great game to introduce you to 2D Zelda, which is spectacular in it's own right. Graphically and Audio wise its one of the best Zelda's, but even without that this game wastes no time throwing you into a really fun adventure. To top it off, it has a very interesting atmosphere compared to other Zelda's. The mystery of Koholint island is always present in the players mind, building subtly at first until you reach a point where you begin to question the nature of your quest in a way that I haven't seen in any game since.
    2) Ocarina of Time (n64) - This one is obvious, but I am just going to reinforce that this game is the cornerstone of the entire series, and for good reason. Ocarina of Time is the game that changed everything; splitting the timeline, establishing the foundation of Zelda lore, and launched the series into 3D. I think by todays standards there are games in and out of the series that do certain aspects of OoT better, but no game comes close to being as consistent across the board as this one. This is where the heart of the series shines brightest.
    3) The Wind Waker HD (WiiU) - Honestly was split between this, Skyward Sword, and TP but I feel strongly about giving WW your attention first for a few reasons. Art in this game has a similarity to BotW in that its cell shaded and while it is cartoony I feel it is one of the best styles in the series. In addition I really enjoy Link, Zelda, and Gannon's portrayal in this one; Link has an actual family he looks after, Zelda is really adventurous and rugged, and we see the same Gannondorf from Oot but as a changed, maybe much humbler man. Its really fascinating and personally I think this one has some of the best dungeons and bosses. This was my first 3D Zelda so maybe I'm a little biased but I still have to give this one my vote.
    Hope you find this useful, and welcome to the Zelda community!

If you want 2D I’d say Link to the Past/Link Between Worlds or Link’s Awakening (probably remake since you already have a switch). Also, please react to the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity trailers! DeeBee, the Hylian Shield is IN FACT in Breath of the Wild. However, it is difficult to get to until the end of the game, as it is in the final "dungeon" of BoTW, surrounded by high level enemies. If you are only of medium in-game level items/garb, you will more than likely get torn to shreds. However, the area itself yields MANY high level items/weapons

    Non-spoiler explanation of the different timelines.
    In ocarina of time
    If you die, then the games go down one timeline.
    If you beat the game in one way then the games go down another timeline.
    If you beat the game in the last way then the games go down the last timeline.
    Basically.

    On a sidenote, I’ve played all Titels but the NES ones and the CD-spinoff

  • @Keanine

    As for the timeline being confusing, each game has a character with the spirit of the hero, and descendant of the royal line and an incarnation of evil. Other than that they're usually completely separate games, and the characters aren't the same between games unless explicitly stated. For example there are some direct sequels in the series like Majora's Mask.
    As for the timeline split, there are events in Ocarina of Time that cause the split, and each game is categorised depending on the ending. For the most part that doesn't really mean much so I wouldn't worry about it, it's more for theorising
