This needs more bumping so he can see it. For real, BoTW DLC he mentioned should be bought and installed, they basically all add side quest content and collectables that fit perfectly in the middle of the game. Don't wait until beating the main quest bro!!!!!
Yes! The DLC is most certainly not post game! It ties in perfectly with the feel of the game for exploration and discovering everything and getting lore and doing more puzzles! Please buy it and get it downloaded soon! You will not regret it!
This is soooo true! Although, I'd recommend at least getting all the original memories, and maybe even completing the Divine Beast....if only so you'll have full knowledge of the memories that tie-in to the DLC (mostly for Champions Ballad). But that's far from necessary!!
Edit: so, as someone reminded me, the Divine Beast are required for the Champion's Ballad dlc, but all the memories are not. Still think its worth it to get at least most of them first.
This is true. In his first episode he also mentioned he'd like to "summon" his horse whenever he needs it, which is what the dlc offers...
nah, the dlc is good for a second playthrough, but it really makes the main story way too easy.

Jokes beside, Wind Waker was such an amazing game... it just made me feel so good inside, idk why. It had beautiful visuals, an adventurous plot, quirky characters, and really fun gameplay. Botw is still my fav Zelda probably, but damn, Wind Waker was great.

Ocarina of Time in the Zelda timeline actually leads to THREE different timelines, so yes Ocarina is connected to Majora's and Twilight Princess, but it also connects to the Wind Waker timeline and the A Link to the Past timeline

Me too! It's definitly my favorite zelda game! The story is the best to make you feel something, the character design is so good and efficient and Midna is clearly the superior "sidekick" so much so I hate calling her a sidekick or comparing her to Navy or Fay. It's so nostalgic for me

Yeah, for my money, Twilight Princess is the superior version of Ocarina. It's actually my third favorite behind BotW and Majora's Mask.
I would like to see him play it after BotW... but *not* _immediately_ after. The Zelda games tend to build upon each other. Playing BotW already "spoils" some things for him. Probably more in terms of game mechanics than story.
Still, if he tries to, for example, go in reverse order, the only place where he won't feel like game mechanics are being "nerfed" or getting worse is when the _opposite_ happened. All the refinements and improvements we all experienced game to game aren't fun when experienced backwards. XD

these trailers for Majora's Mask were definitely like WTF. If you already know what's happening, they make perfect sense, but for someone who hasn't played the game before, I get how they don't even look like Zelda trailers. They really should have narrated them or something, given some kind of context like "the apocalypse is coming unless you/Link stop it!" or something.

I´m recommending that you play atleast all the 3D games (Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, Majoras Mask, Twilight Princess, Windwaker) Age of Calamity since it´s the direct prequel to BotW, perhaps Links Awakening and A Link between Worlds.

I agree. And I think the first 3D Zelda he should start with is Ocarina of Time since it's the game before the timeline split, and b/c the other 3D Zeldas reference back to that one the most. Either start off Ocarina of Time or Skyward Sword, since that one is the first in the timeline.

Context is important. Unless you already know what the game is about the trailers for it just seem random and off putting. Commercials are supposed tot be able to sell the game to people who don't know what it's about, and these commercials seem directed to people who are already reading the articles and are excited for the game. To everyone else, it's senseless. With all that in mind, it's probably the worst Zelda commercials. Yes, more than the weird ones we saw before.
yeah, its like early comertial in the first 2 decades of video game history where always out of context. Now you dont see this stuff (almost, lol)
Both English commercials were pretty terrible at explaining anything for this game. At least the Japanese one has a stronger hint that it involves the moon slowing coming down into the building the player is in, but even then some people could misunderstand what's going on if they have no context to the game.

Wind Waker looks cute and cuddly, but has a surprisingly mature story and my favorite villain.
And it’s the only Zelda game where Link isn’t the chosen one, just a nobody trying to save his sister. And I like that.

ocarina of time is the last linear timeline (until BOTW), after it, either link dies (a link to the past) even he wins and remains kid (majoras) or adult (wind waker flood)

99% of the zeldas aren’t available on the switch and it’s infuriating.
It's actually more like 69% that aren't available. If you include first hyrule warriors and cadence of hyrule, seven out of 22 titles are available for switch, and if you leave them out, its still 5/20. I'm including AoC in this since it comes out in few days.

If you're going to play Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, I recommend only playing after the other games, since the game is based purely on fan service, and getting the references will make it much more enjoyable!
I agree that game has a lot of references from a lot of other Zelda games. You might want to do at least OoT, TP, and Wind Waker to get most of it.

Skyward Sword is canonically the first, but you may not understand the story elements it adds unless you're already familiar with the franchise.
Some of the 2d titles are great too, but they don't make for great streaming content. Minish Cap, the Link's Awakening remake for Switch, A Link to the Past, and A Link Between Worlds are the best 2d titles.

These are the major games and this is probably the best order to play them (you could switch wind waker and twilight princess, they were released in the opposite order, but I feel like the given order actually has better thematic consistency)
What about the 2D games makes them less streamable? I'd argue A Link to the Past has a higher average number of streams than most 3D titles (not denying that Ocarina of Time probably has the highest rate of all the non new releases at the very least, most of the time).
Most of the zelda games aren't available on Switch yet, but there are lots of rumors about a zelda collection for the 35th anniversary next year the same way they did one for mario this year.
Right now the only zelda games available on Switch are 1 and 2 on NES, Link to the Past on SNES, the remake of Link's Awakening, and BotW. Most of the others are still available on the Wii U eshop, though.

You need to play Ocarina of Time and then do a little research on the timeline split because only then will things make a little bit of sense later on.
Majora’s Mask is a kind of one off but dark and interesting.
Twilight Princess has a great story and will get you teary at the end.
Wind Waker is about the most badass Link who wasn’t chosen as a Hero but made himself one.
A link to the past is the start of the strongest Hero’s story.
A Link between Worlds is just great.
And so many others but don’t know if you’re going to have time 😂😂 honestly I could just recommend them all!

I think it might have been interesting to watch the trailers in release order just to get a sense for how they improved. Because let's face it: Nintendo was shit at making trailers for years.
(To be fair, the pre-Internet ones were made to be shown on TV, and it's pretty difficult to attract players for your 8-bit game with a TV commercial that everyone's going to watch... Being able to post gameplay trailers online for fans to watch helped a lot.)

@@Nat_the_Chicken Yeah, Nintendo definitely has a knack for trailers at this point. Smash Bros. character reveals can generate more hype than some game reveals, and Zelda has had some of the greatest trailers I've ever seen for a videogame. I mean, when I saw the Switch Presentation in 2017 I had no interest in the series at all, but the trailer was so good it sold me on the console by itself.

As a hard core Zelda fan for 18 years and still counting, seeing the breath of the wild trailer for the first time and waiting for it to come out in 2014 wait, 2015 wait, 2016 wait, 2017 it was a dream come true! And watching the 2017 trailer still gives me Goosebumps. I've grown up with Zelda and seeing your channel and reactions in 2020 is a blessing from above. I still tear up seeing the Twilight Princess trailers. My favorite Zelda game of all time still to this day (OoT and MM come as a close second). Glad you are playing Ocarina of Time first before going for Twilight Princess. You'll definitely enjoy it even more since there are so many OoT references and direct tie-ins in this game.
Twilight Princess is, to this day, one of my favorite Zelda games. It's story is incredible, and the extra credits scene makes me cry almost every time.

Four Swords Adventures actually has a pretty good manga. It's quite emotional and delves a fair bit away from the actual game. It even has Dark Link redeemed at the end.

The plot in general honestly. Literally opens with the reveal that the setting you've known up till now was utterly decimated and lost to time and your sister being stolen by a demonic bird. More morally grey too.
@@OsnosisBones Almost every 3D Zelda game is about the end of the world or post apocalyptic. The only one where the world isn't screwed during the main story is Twilight Princess and even that is debatable since loosing would probably result in a WW part 2.

WW it's already gone and most assume it never existed. I'm not saying it's the darkest, but its art style hides how morose and dark it actually is when you think about it.

That second Twilight Princess trailer remains one of the greatest game trailers ever made. You occasionally stumble across the live version from its E3 debut and you can hear the audience absolutely losing their minds.

Majora's Mask is a game that begins 72 hours before the apocalypse. You have to prevent the moon from crashing into the Earth. The game, as you can tell, has a timer but you find an item early on that resets the timer. You retain certain key items when the timer resets but otherwise things are the way they were. Think Groundhog Day. That's all I'll say, you'll have to play it to find out more.

while everything is connected by the timelines there are only 3 or 4 direct sequels in the franchise, while twilight princess *does* have somewhat of a connection to Ocarina Of Time and Majora's mask (MM is a direct sequel to OOT) it's more an easter egg than anything and is only ever explicitly stated in hyrule historia which is a book just full of lore
Oh man, the Majora’s Mask ads were such a deep memory! I’d forgotten they were like that. The one I remembered best was one of the short ones were the narrator said: “3 days to save the world. Better get moving.”
No other game has matched the feeling of starting that game, seeing “Dawn of the First Day”, seeing the clock, and realizing the 3 days thing was *literal* and the entire game is timed.
I would actually suggest getting the dlc right now since its more of an add on to the story and it melds into the original game pretty well
Majora's Mask is widely considered to be one of the darkest games in the series and is a borderline Horror Story without actually getting a Horror rating.

I suggest downloading the DLC now. Anything story related doesn't become available till you reach certian points of the story, so you don't have to worry about doing stuff too soon. The new clothes are what are available immediately and some of them of perks. Such as helping you find Koroks or the ability to teleport your horse to you anywhere on the map.

The 2016 Breath of the Wild trailer makes me cry so much. The visuals, music, pacing, the goddamn title reveal; everything about it was perfect at the time. It's such a special trailer to me, and many other people I'm sure.

In regards to what you could maybe play:
I think you can‘t go wrong with Ocarina of Time & Majoras Mask (both originally for N64 but have been remade), Twilight Princess & Wind Waker (both have HD remakes), Skyward Sword and Link’s Awakening (the switch remake). I left out many of the old classics but going by personal experience, I think it‘s hard to get into the older games if you haven‘t played them as kids. Nostalgia can play a big part into why they‘re considered classic and I also have a hard time enjoying older games, graphic wise. Personally, I think Skyword Sword is the weakest one of the ones I mentioned but since you seemed to enjoy the trailer I included it as well 😊
Also I'm not sure what the person who compiled this list was doing, but Twilight Princess and Wind Waker are decidedly NOT on the same timeline. Those are the two games that seeded the idea that there *were* two different timelines! And then Hyrule Historia came out and added a surprise twist third timeline. But the whole Zelda timeline doesn't matter at all, it's just something for the deep lore fans.
Thank you! Someone who understands who and what the timeline is for. Both sides of "it's dumb!" Or "you need to know the timeline as a Zelda fan" are tired out
Here's my recommendation of games to play, in order of priority:
Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, Wind Waker, A Link to the Past, A Link Between Worlds.
Order doesn't matter too much, as long as you go Ocarina of Time -> Majora's Mask, and A Link to the Past -> A Link Between Worlds.
After those, if you still want to play more, definitely check out Link's Awakening, Minish Cap, and maybe even Zelda 1 just to see where it all started.

Fun fact: using the wolf amibo in breath of the wild spawns wolf link to fight along side you.
And using the Epona amiibo in Breath of the Wild spawns Epona to use as your horse! Although it is possible to get better horses than Epona in the game. And you'd have to choose between Epona and Blucas.

windwaker is my absolute favorite zelda game, its so adorable but its story still feels so grand and epic and its not all that hard but its not easy by any means either so i always feel so fulfilled when i finish it, not to mention it has easily the best music out of any game

If i remember correctly, in Spirit Tracks Zelda's body is stolen and her spirit/soul stays behind. The game is about Zelda and Link joining forces and travelling together to get it back and rescue the kingdom, more like a equal duo than a guide-hero duo. I really loved how they incorporated Zelda in the game and the character developthem they gave her.

The best versions of these games:
- Twilight Princess HD for Wii U
- Wind Waker HD for Wii U
- Ocarina of Time 3D on 3DS
- Majora's Mask is a bit more complicated. It looks better and runs better on 3DS, but some of the gameplay mechanics got dumbed down a bit on that version. Up to you which one you want to play.
- Skyward Sword is only on Wii (but also playable on Wii U) So there isn't much choice for that one

Phantom Hourglass was actually the first game I played in the Zelda franchise back when I was just a kid with his first Nintendo DS. It's incredible how far the franchise has come in just a decade and an half .
51:02 I'm not joshing you, when I first saw the BotW trailer back in 2016 that final piano note when the scene changed to focus on the Master Sword made me burst into tears it was so emotional.
It didn't help that we had been waiting since they gave us a tiny gameplay tease back in E3 2014 and then literally noting until E3 2016.
If you do plan on playing Hyrule Warriors I'll echo what some of the others have said and suggest that you wait until after playing whichever other games in the franchise you want to play first. That's because HW is a love letter to the franchise that was made by a dev team who are fans of the main series and as a result it spoils a bunch of the other games in the franchise.
Breath of the Wild 2016 was almost 5 years ago... Brings me back to high school. We had nearly no news about the game since the 2014 teaser. And when we finally got the name "Breath of the Wild" for the first time. I shivered. It was a perfect name.
When the 2017 trailer first released. I cried like a baby.
A list of the Zelda games you should play in order and my rationale for the order:
1. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (only first because you started with BotW and it comes out in less than a week)
2. Ocarina of Time (Definitely the best place to start off in my opinion; includes a lot of the elements that would become standard in future Zeldas)
3. Majora's Mask (Direct sequel to OoT with the same Link; while not very important to the timeline, it is incredibly important to the themes of OoT and is one of the best games in the series)
4. Wind Waker (Wind Waker's story relies pretty heavily on knowledge of the events of Ocarina of Time and the story is dramatically enhanced by that knowledge, especially towards the end of the game)
5. Twilight Princess (Some connections to OoT but not as many as the aforementioned games; a kind of spiritual successor to OoT)
6. A Link to the Past (Probably the most acclaimed 2D game in the franchise; connects to OoT a little but to understand it, you might want to understand the Zelda timeline a bit better)
7. Link's Awakening (Sequel to ALttP with the same Link)
8. A Link Between Worlds (Spiritual successor to ALttP)
9. Skyward Sword (Basically a prequel to the entire series; a lot of neat references to the other games that you will get if you played them all)
10. Breath of the Wild Sequel (Assuming you can play all these games before it comes out; if not, drop the other games and play this one since you are already in the middle of BotW)
Games I didn't include and my rational behind their exclusion:
1 & 2. Zelda 1 and 2 (Zelda 1 is a classic and should definitely be played, but it's not that consequential to the timeline and is a bit rough by modern standards; Zelda 2 is even less important and notoriously difficult)
3 & 4. Oracle of Ages and Seasons (I haven't even played these games myself so I can't speak to their quality, but I can say that they aren't that relevant to the rest of the timeline)
5, 6, & 7. Minish Cap, Four Swords, and Four Swords Adventures (Minish Cap is a great game, but is relatively inconsequential, and FS and FSA follow the same story line, plus one of them is multiplayer and a pain to properly play)
8 & 9. Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks (Phantom Hourglass is probably one of the most widely disliked games in the series and its story is kind of unnecessary, despite being a direct sequel to WW; Spirit Tracks is supposedly a lot of fun but it's a bit inconsequential)
10. Tri Force Heroes (Pretty much a spinoff game that was shoehorned into the timeline for some bizarre reason. It's exclusively multiplayer so I don't see a need to play it)
11. Hyrule Warriors (Entirely a non canon spinoff with a story that feels more like a fanfiction than something that would actually be made by the Zelda team; if you like Dynasty Warrior games then you'll probably like this one but even then, Age of Calamity comes out in under a week)
The Oracle games are probably the best of the 2d Zeldas (aside from maybe ALBW) so those should absolutely be played if you enjoyed Links Awakening

I agree. Though I don't understand when you say inconsequential to timeline. None of them really are consequential and most can be played in any order without missing anything. They were all shoehorned into the timeline. There are some references that you would miss if that's what you meant, but they are few and not that big of a deal.
Honestly I think he should play Twilight Princess first. Would definitely be a smoother transition from BotW, and has all the major elements of a traditional 3D Zelda game

@Crado Dragmire Yeah true. I think it's just because of the art style of the game as Majora's Mask still has a child-like/cartoony vibe to it, whereas Twilight Princess feels more adult/mature (gritty aesthetic).
Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks are like Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. A direct sequel to the last. Spirit Tracks is a little further down the timeline from WW and PH and contains a different link from the previous two, and similarly, Twilight Princess's link is a descendant of the MM link.
WW and MM are also not on the same timeline, same as their descendants.
Links' WW PH and ST design is "Toon Link", while MM and OoT Link design IS "Kid/Child Link"
Twilight Princess was my first Zelda as a kid, I'm glad you've gotten so excited. It's overshadowed a lot but it's an excellent story.
Usually, link from windwaker/phantom hourglass/spirit tracks is called toon link. Child/young link is the one from ocarina/majora's mask.
