Don't fret, was just an experiment. Figured Call of Duty with all the gunfire and explosions, it'd be a good excuse to use those to help cover up the fucks in this episode, which there are only 5 anyway. Just looking to see how it effects this videos performance.
Oh man, this was the first CoD game I played. I remember loving it back in the day and I know aiming down sight is a more common thing in modern shooters now, but back then I thought it was really cool that you could aim down your sights in this game.
i went back to ps2 era of cod and moh games - good how diverse they were, how less scripted while still really well made. I can't stand sitting through a single on rails modern cod campaign, even though these are short, yet i can play old cod games for hours on end, even re-doing some missions for the sake of it, without any boredom. I forgot how much better these games were. Finest Hours is almost tactical, very diverse, and it mashes together large epic missions with actuall objectives that won't do themselfs. CoD 2 Big Red One is a perfect bridge between old and new shooters, with great scripting, and amazing gunplay. CoD 3 has the intensity of modern CoD games, but unlike them, you really have to conquer every inch of a map - no bs retreating because you crossed scripted line. I won't even start on Medal of Honor games becasue i won't stop typing.
When I played this game as a kid, I could never make it to the second mission. The disk I had wouldn't load the level after I died twice. And that's why I stayed with Medal of Honor.
This is an awesome review and that recreation of the hill looks great. In my college course I made just an untextured Mayan pyramid and I thought it was the greatest thing in the world lol. I don't know where or when I got it but I had found this game in a CD wallet and played after watching it, it's very dated and rough around the edges but it still holds up (or not) for many of the reasons covered here. Probably not as good as COD 1 on PC, but it was great for the time.
Man you are a true hero. You decide to start off the next season of review even though you are drafted into what can only be assumed as the Second great Australian-Emu war. Godspeed
Dear Jak... I found your channel about a week ago. I was looking at your Croc.. well what I'd call a movie, soaking up all the nostalgia I could. Jak... you got my full support! Much love from: Oregon USA!
Man I feel old seeing CoD Finest Hour, Call of Duty World at War is just an amazing game (also a good soundtrack I might add). So....er...does this mean we watched Nazi propaganda as kids....oh shit...MAN THE CANNONS, GO GIVE JERRY A RUDDY GOOD KICK UP THE ARSE!! Loved the video man, I was surprised to see a Call of Duty review! :D
Nice intro mate, Feels a little weird after watching the old intro so many times but that's just me and I'll get used to it pretty quick. The intro is good, and finally a new review! Hope to see amazing videos this year as well Jak. Have a nice one!
Too answer your question on the ammo clip in finest hour jak this was done because the battle of Stalingrad was so chaotic most soldiers were sent into battle without any weapons and had to find one off the body off of a dead fellow soldier
It’s just the hardware at the time innit, mate? Love the AC/DC reference though. Didn’t know you were a fan of Teletubbies lol! Hope you have a great fucking day as well! See you later guys! Much appreciated in the long run lol!
Your channel reminds me of old school g4 show Cheat! with Cory Rouse, Mixed with like electric playground. They did a lot of set pieces and skits on their show. Great to see this style
This was my first cod. I remember it was the first year we finally had a computer, and mom got me this one on PC so had a PC game... know how moms are at picking games so I put it on the side initially to play my other games my older brother knew I wanted. Then one day bored I installed outta curiosity and when I started playing I was hooked. I thoroughly loved it.
Actually, COD is one I always knew could make for some simple videos to make, still with plenty of opportunity for live action stuff. We're just doing Finest Hour for now but I'd like to do more Call of Duty in the future!
Honestly bud, you have inspired me so much I gave it a go at making a game review. It would be a honour, if you watched this Jak. I hope you like it, if you decide to watch it. ruclips.net/video/q38wrQFrPSQ/видео.html - I comment regularly on your videos and was part of the channel's milestone which was was amazing (thank you), so I'm not some randomer doing this for clicks.
I honestly loved how they just hand you an ammo clip. There was so many people in Russia that they just couldn't afford to outfit everyone with a new rifle. You genuinely might have had to wait for a comrade to die to even begin fighting
One thing CoD Finest Hour did that a lot of PS2 games didn't was attention to detail. Like the magazine on the DP28 actually rotates (for perspective, the one in World at War, which came out in 2009, didn't rotate), and the bolt of the Mosin Nagant bolt actually moves while firing (again, something even World at War, a game I also praise for attention to detail, doesn't do lol)
Gotta say I really like the new intro :) Ironically I was stuck at the exact same level as you as a kid and never got to finish it since it was my cousins game. I should probably revisit it to finally finish it myself.
" Uh excuse me sir but do i just throw these things or...?" "Oh wait its okay don't worry I found a gun.. sorry to bother you.. I'll be fine.. now." This had me dying hahahahh
This game actually had weird easter eggs aswell. There is a UFO on the american tank map. A russian t-34 spawns next to you after the explosion on the second to last mission right at the end. Some weird hidden items with no real use etc.
Admittedly I'm not a fan of the Call of Duty series but not because they're bad or anything, I'm just not really into FPS games but in saying that, his review was still fun to watch, your editing keeps improving with each upload and it's cool that you still continue to theme your reviews to the style of game you're playing. All in all, a great first of the year review and looking forward to more. :D Oh and I really like the new intro even though your old one is iconic in my opinion but I understand that sometimes it's good to change it up, very nice stuff.
Here are my tips: 1. Play on easy mode. I figured out the reason it was so hard on the American campaign was because it was on medium. I DO NOT wanna know what its like on hard. 2. Seach around for ammo and medkits. Every last corner. Memorize where they are too. 3. Light machine-guns like the DP-28, Bren, BAR 1918, MG-42 and Browning M1919 work best fired from a prone position. Firing while standing up is only recommended in close-quarters because of the recoil. 4. For some reason, the aforementioned Browning has this weird thing where the bullets travel above the crosshair. I figured this out after noticing riunds hit a wall a few feet away. So knowing this, you generally wanna keep whatever you wanna shoot at or above the top notch of the crosshair rather thsn in the crosshair. 5. Dont pop out of the turret hatch in tanks or go into third-person view. Your exposing yourself to enemy fire and wasting ammo for later on-foot encounters and the camera wont follow your tanks turret if you rotate it. Also, the crosshair in third person is uselessly inaccurate.
New intro is pretty nice! Sticking with the old but reliable style, but still telling us that you can stick with the times. There were good amount of good editing for both game and live footage, and the "censoring" with explosions and such actually got some laughs out of me. Maybe being more consistent with it would have worked nicely, as people can also flip out from something as regular as "shit". Maybe only blocking the most vulgar ones, which could actually work towards writing for more freedom with the choice of words to express yourself. I barely was interested in the game, but the review in general was great and gave a good glimpse of game in question. Goes to show that it's not the game, it's the guy talking about it that counts (or at least, it should). Great kickoff for Season 5! Hopefully we are in the right to expect that the quality of the reviews in the future will satisfy both you and us, the viewers. Cheers!
Just what I like to hear, thanks. Way too many channels have the topic or game as the main focus, but that's just not interesting to watch imo so, I always try injecting as much personality and personal opinion into everything. And as for the censorship, it was just for this video as an experiment with the explosions to help blend it into the episode more. I'm interested to see how it will effect this videos performance. :)
I love this game so much, I never even finished first non Russain mission, I could've but I ran out of sticky bombs in the British one and couldn't continue, to add to this I didn't have PlayStation storage card so everyday it was Stalingrad.
Fun review. I remember getting this along with Timesplitters Future Perfect in early 2005. I just remember not liking the aiming sensitivity of this game and only playing it for about 30 minutes, so I returned it the next day since I was only playing Timesplitters. Thought of giving it another chance after price drop and I wasn't playing nothing else, but by that time it already had a sequel, Big Red One, I got instead during the period I was waiting for 360's to be findable in stores.
New intro, great skits, and still a solid review! Looks like a brand new Square Eyed Jak is upon us! And I can't wait to see what's next. If this is a CoD marathon, this will be interesting looking at how the entire series evolved from WWII to now. Either way, cheers!
This is a excellent video I'm going to subscribe! Also do you plan to cover the other early cod games big red one on ps2 and also cod 2 on xbox 360 and cod 3 would be amazing!
The reason in the first mission you are given just bullets is because the Soviet Union had more men than rifles so soviet soldiers worked in groups of two, one carries the rifle the other carries the ammo. When the man with the rifle died the other man picked up the rifle and continued the fight
This, and Medal of Honor: Frontline, meant so much to me as a kid! As for the part about going into battle with no ammunition, I'm not sure if it's historically accurate or anything, but it's a definite nod back to that Enemy at the Gates film that released slightly prior to this 😛
I recently played through this on my modded xbox, not sure if it's the Xbox version or the fact I'm running it off the hard drive but the I almost got soft-locked on the end of the final mission with one of the planes at the end getting stuck midair out on the horizon, good thing I still had a sniper rifle (not to mention a couple odd times that I could hold 500 bullets or 50 rockets) lol.
Really liked the revamped square eyed jak intro. I still prefer the chase scene from crash 2 always found that funny when you were looking back, like always a fantastic review. I’m really looking forward to the Black Ops 1 review, that and World at war are my all time favourites in the franchise.
Bro I fucking love your intro clips, looked like you were actually calling an airstrike hahaha (edit) lmaoooo I just saw who you are at war with, they definitely cause a lot of pain and suffering
Ah. What a peculiar entry this game is for the franchise. For dipping their toe into the water, it isn't a horrible first time console iteration. Albeit somewhat rough around the edges. I must have had a lot of time as a child, because I don't recall the difficulties of navigating this game when it was first bought for me. I suppose it came somewhat natural, though having an ample amount of time to get familiar with this game probably helped. I do recall the final level for the British to be particularly harrowing, along with the escort mission for the American tanks. Now that level certainly puts your skills to the test, making sure not only you keep yourself alive, but that you also keep the enemy anti tank teams from destroying your armor. Fun times. One thing I distinctly remember was how *dark* it it could get sometimes. I suppose it did add to the difficulty aspect of the game, but damn if it didn't irritate me quite a bit. I even turned up the brightness setting on my TV just to get a better picture. I do remember liking the extra features tacked on, such as the behind the scenes, proto animation reels, and so on. Gave me a little insight into gaming development before I ever had access to the Internet. It was such a cool thing at the time. Same applies to my Xbox version of Call of Duty: Big Red 1 with their little tidbits of history and behind the scenes for their multiplayer maps that simply isn't seen in games anymore. Though that being said, I suppose you could say that this has been more than made up in with how social media facilitates access to such knowledge without needing to put it in the game anymore. Still, it was a nice touch that gave such games a little personality to it which showed that the game devs actually gave a bit of a damn about what they were making. Those were indeed different times to say the least. The game certainly had its fair share of flaws. But taken for what it is, the game isn't all that bad. Just a little janky.
Great video Jak! Even though I've never played this game I have a lot of nostalgia for it because it highly resembles COD 1 on pc which I absolutely loved! Like the opening mission where you hold rounds of ammo also exists in cod1 later in the game. Same as the tank levels etc. Main differences are level structure and designs. Also, I replicated my own version of N.sanity beach for my 3D college assignment
Dammit now Jak has to censor himself
Don't fret, was just an experiment. Figured Call of Duty with all the gunfire and explosions, it'd be a good excuse to use those to help cover up the fucks in this episode, which there are only 5 anyway.
Just looking to see how it effects this videos performance.
@@SquareEyedJak as a loyal fan I'll watch anyway
@@SquareEyedJak NICES!
COD or Jak of duty.
@@SquareEyedJak I mean, the AVGN did very good even with all the fucks so who knows.
I swear your editing gets better and better with every new upload.
That intro was perfect.
Glad you liked it mate, cheers!
Aw yes , The Teletubies , the most terrifying enemies of them all
Nathaniel Foga I was not expecting to see the Teletubbies in this video. That was hilarious.
Nathaniel Foga
If the Teletubbies are terrifying, then Thomas The Tank Engine is nightmare fuel.
@Dreadblocks indeed, the best case of censorship. XD
Exactly
The Teletubby part seriously got me good, really didnt see that coming lmao
It’s videos like this that show how creative square eyed jack really is. He turns an average game into a really exciting video for a review
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks! :)
Average game?
Oh man, this was the first CoD game I played. I remember loving it back in the day and I know aiming down sight is a more common thing in modern shooters now, but back then I thought it was really cool that you could aim down your sights in this game.
Finest hour is my all time favorite and the first COD game ever! And the Teletubbies was my favorite show. Two of the bests, childhood, COMBINED!!!!
Loving the new intro already, season 5 is off to a great start!
Nice to finally see the first Review of the Year , also I like the new intro 😁👌
I know right? God, I'm so glad to finally have a new review up, cheers!
Great it's official especially when it's call of duty let's see my favorite guys professional journalism this time.
14:33 dude that scared the SHIT OUTTA ME LOL. Clever way of expressing your criticism.
this man really out here killing teletubbies lmaooooo
Oh god, Jak's in a war against the Teletubies! I always knew those things were evil!
This is my personal favorite, this is the only COD game that made me feel like I accomplished something after each level.

Is this the timeline where Jak never reviewed Ratchet & Clank? Wait that's our timeline.
Awesome video though, buddy!
I remember loving the series on the ps2. I tried playing big red one again and wow it has aged. Great review and effects. I like the new intro.
When I played this game as a kid, I could never make it to the second mission.
The disk I had wouldn't load the level after I died twice.
And that's why I stayed with Medal of Honor.
DAMN, get a new copy. Second level is dope!
Your 3d replication was seriously impressive. That really surprised me. The video was great too as always!

Cheers mate, never played the first one but I'd really like to give it a go sometime.
Oh cool, any chance I could see it?

It wasn't finished but that's what I managed to do.
