Minimalist Hair Care Routine

- By popular request, here's my hair care "routine!"
It's not much of a routine. I just wash my hair and avoid harsh chemicals. Everything else just revolves around that.
I didn't have time to mention during this short video, but if your hair isn't dry, but OILY, sometimes using less harsh shampoo can help as well. This is just my observation though. It's anecdotal. If anyone knows why this might be, please share!
I'll eventually make a longer video about this as well!

I'll also make a longer video about this at some point. I'd like for a video soon on the importance of water, if we should drink filtered, bottled, etc.
Also, someone asked me if this video was a sponsored ad. The answer is no, but who would sponsor this video? Water companies? I'm advocating for less use of products (although they are handy in some cases)!
Yes if you can make a video about the importance and benefits of everyday tasks. Sorry if you already made this video
Also yes, I do love bambina
Bambina is amazing, and it really made me laugh because my brother's nickname is bamboo and we call him bambi for short lol
Sponsered by big bamboo.
As my anatomy and physiology teacher taught the class, she mentioned shampoo strips your hair off all oil, dirt, etc. and "dries" the hair strands, that's when conditioner comes into play. Conditioner takes the place of the natural oil that was stripped by the shampoo. If your hair is over oily when using conditioner it's because you don't stop producing the natural oil (cebum) and it layers with the conditioner.
I stopped washing my hair with any shampoo/conditioner for 6 months after I learned that and my hair was fine and balanced. It was shoulder length so I didn't start using shampoo again until I cut my hair and started using gel again, even now I still don't use conditioner

At night, I put on a few drops of liitllexttra serum of reactivate to my hair. Just doing these things has helped my hair grow nicely.
I will give reactivaate hair serum full marks ie 10/10. This is due to the results I got from it.

I wash my hair once every couple of months, but no more than 4 times a year. I rinse it whenever I shower (which is also not everyday) don't judge me. And when I do shampoo I have to make sure I have natural shampoo without chemicals. You can also make your own with just a few ingredients. Our ignorance keeps us slaves to this system. Which is why I truly appreciate your content. Thanks for spreading the word. Keep up the great work.

Kinda weird but based too
Also, one of the biggest things that made my hair healthy was a balanced diet & regular meals. Sounds dumb, but when i was working too much and not eating my hair was noticeably thinner. And having things like rice, avocado, vegetables, nuts, salmon, fruits.. just a good mix of healthy fats and different foods made my hair grow back thick and shiny.
So true! I use a vegan hair products. It helps as well.
Yes! I started eating avocados, fresh laid eggs everyday, salmon is a must, and I like to eat vitamin c tabs. Since last summer I have really improved my diet and my hair looks so amazing. And I use cheap shampoo and conditioner
True.
@Hafsa Quadri - I don’t think shampoo being vegan is going to necessarily make shampoo better for your hair. It just mostly means no animal testing and no animals fats in the soap.
I've found diet matters too. I'd also add getting enough sunlight as I personally have greasier hair if I'm spending lots of time indoors. Also regularly changing pillow covers really helps keep my hair looking healthy. That said our bodies are different and that includes our hair, what works for me might not work for others.

Great advice, I personally do not use any products on my hair or head, just warm water everyday, it works wonders, my hair has restored its natural oil balance, it's not too oily neither is it too dry, it behaves when I brush it and it's soft and dandruff free, and my scalp feels better, no itchiness or irritation.

This is such a good video. I work in an iron foundry that uses silicate sand molds with a chemical binder, M-F, and I HAVE to shampoo that crap out, then use conditioner to soften and detangle it so I can shampoo the rest out. If I don't use the conditioner and shampoo, I'll have frizzy hair with nasty sand in it. But Saturday and Sunday, all I use is water, even if I get drenched in mud and sweat. For my curly hair folk:
We need water and hair oil!
Oil your ends because the coils of our hair doesn't allow oil to travel to our ends properly. :)
the application and amount of oil really depends on the porosity of ur hair though, mine just doesn't take oil
@@FarahNathanna same here, there was a time where I used to many oil treatments and basically made my hair flat, so I just ended up using leave in conditioner and some gel and it has been better since then jaja
Do you wash it off or no?
@@cajs100 Everytime you shower, yeah.
@@cajs100 since I don't exactly know who are you asking, but if it is about the oils you have to or if it is about the leave in conditioner you can leave it until you wash your hair again.
shampoo your hair every 5 days or once a week or whenever it is so greasy already. only scrub your scalp as its the only one who needs the deep cleaning, the soap suds and running water will already remove the dirt on your hair as you wash it down. avoid scrubbing shampoo on your hair coz it will dry it out by removing the moisture on it.
use conditioner instead everyday (if your hair is on the dry side) or every other day (if your hair is on the oily side). only use conditioner on your hair but not on your scalp as putting it on scalp will make it more soft and susceptible for hair fall as you wash it down.
i hope it helps guys - from a dude with long hair also
I do the same:) shampoo (w protein cause of my hair type) once a week, and use conditioner on the ends+a bit of natural oil.
Hair is healthier than ever.
Tip: if you're used to shampooing everyday, you may not like the results of switching to once every few days *at first*. Your scalp needs to get used to it, because it may have become accustomed to producing more oil to compensate for dry hair.
That said, I live somewhere hot and humid, so I still shampoo (only my scalp, as you said) every other day.
Also use leave-in conditioner
I second this!
Won't the scalp be smelly if not washed for like 5 days?
this is what ive desesperately been waiting for since i discovered u like a week ago. i love you but your hair has a special place in my heart.
It isn't a surprise that people want to know how you keep your hair looking like that. It is beautiful. ❤ People, in addition to Hamilton's advice remember that if you want healthy hair, put nutrition in your body. Also, they invented conditioner because you shampoo too often. That clique where your grandmother turned down a date because she was washing her hair wasn't a clique. That was, most likely the only night that week she washed her hair.

Real talk! Hair/beauty industry just telling you to buy stuff so they make money. You basically need as little as possible to keep your hair & skin healthy. I find for me moisture is key. Sometimes I resort to just using good old olive oil & it works a treat! 👍

You are so cute!! Thanks for the breath of fresh air! And I love the plant!
I have done a LOT of reading lately on hair care and this is so spot on. The consensus is to avoid sulfates, (most) silicones, and use shampoo less often.
Sulfates are amazing cleaning agents but can irritate the scalp and strip away healthy oils. Scrubbing the scalp is so important for removing dirt and debris buildup if you gonna shampoo less tho.
That giggle at the end made my day
He: "Hello friends"
Me: *faints*

I’ll do whatever you’re doing. Your hair is majestic
I highly recommend cutting down on the frequency of your wash days. 👍🏻 I used to have hair that would get greasy within a day, and any longer, and I'd get that weird kind of scalp discomfort you get from greasy hair being forced to lay in another direction. It can take a couple gross months for your scalp to figure out that it doesn't need to overproduce so much oil to protect your skin and hair, but it's so worth it, truly.
The same can apply if you're acne-prone and oily, too. It could be that you're just in your teen years, thus producing a lot of oil... Or it could be that you're washing your face too frequently, with too harsh or cleansers, not replenishing that hydration and oil, afterwards, and causing your oil production to go completely nuts, in order to try to protect your skin. That's part of why we have sebum - it's necessary!
I can easily go 2 weeks without even using a low-sls shampoo, now. It basically never gets greasy, now. And it's down to around mid-thigh, now, and I'm not even really "trying" to grow it. I just use hair-cutting scissors to trim off my split ends, every few weeks.
The only products I use now are a low-poo shampoo, every 2 weeks, only applied to the scalp. A conditioner, used after I wash, and sometimes when I just rinse it out with water. A high-silicone detangler (because my hair is stupid long and thick), scalp and hair oil, and a bit of gel for later in my wash routine, when I want my hair out of my face, completely (so I can slick my baby hairs and everything back). And a silicone scalp massager. 👍🏻
I do go through conditioner like 3x faster than shampoo now, though. 🤔
He is so sweet!
For those who wash their hair every day with shampoo, most people don't need that. If you decide to start washing your hair a bit less your hair will feel greasy very fast because it's used to you drying it out constantly and having to replenish itself constantly. Your hair should get accustomed to it tho. There are loads of tutorials on RUclips on how to do this properly.
Soz for the essay but hope it helped.

The sulfate thing is ok to try and get away from as long as you don’t use products with any silicons in it. SLS is the only thing that can break down silicon and get rid of it on your hair. If it’s not fully removed it’ll keep new moisture from getting in and basically dry your hair from the inside out causing hair loss. A good clarifying shampoo once every week or two can help the hair the best if you use other hair care products.
Now Hampton is the person you should idolize.

It’s fine to cut out the sulfate as long as you aren’t using products on your hair like dry shampoo, heat protectants, or oils. SLS is what cleans off that product build up that can end up choking out your hair at the root and lead to hair loss and dull/greasy or even brittle hair. As long as you’re using a clarifying shampoo once every few weeks you should be good to go, otherwise cut the products too.
