I feel like this track is underrated especially since the 3rd Act is so short you aren't given enough time to listen to it but I do enjoy what it tries to do The bongos and percussion from the other themes are here though without the low toms leaving the drums to feel lifeless to what the other themes had done, the bass is quite unique and feels eerie as it looms over the rest of the song The 2nd segment of the track we're introduced to a distorted main melody with what sounds like some kind of phased wide synth or something, and it makes the song feel diabolical, especially in the 2nd pattern where after the first note drops its release hang time and reverb while it repeats the D note five times in a lifeless, robotic way The next segment invites us to a what feels broken clarinet portion from the Present track, going off beat and repeating its notes over 2 patterns before disappearing while the electric piano from the Present track introduces itself playing its first 2 patterns completely omitting the last patterns that play in C Major, making the setting feel even more hollow from the happy beaches of the Present track The next segment invites the piano back in playing the same piano chords from the other tracks' last segments, alternating every two patterns to C.Major to B.Minor shyly hiding itself among the other robotic instruments playing their twisted song, it gives the listener a glimpse of light, like all hope isn't truly lost and the once happy beaches and hills of Palmtree Panic can still be saved I really love the last piano part for that reason I don't dabble in music theory a bunch and im not much of a trained musician, but that cant stop me from analyzing a well constructed tune I enjoy
Honestly. Even though this tune is quite terrifying in the grand scheme of things, it does have it's little charms. The beginning really tells you that you absolutely failed to realize the severity of the situation at hand, and then the music suddenly stops like a tape deck breaking down. The next thing you hear that weird chainsaw kind of synth and some kind of depressed boo sound. That clarinet at the beginning stuck in a temporary loop like it was being played through a broken vinyl record. The children that cheer in the present mix of the zone, still trying to do it, but sounding completely corrupted. like they've been robotised as well. Then, temporary silence and a fast crescendo. Suddenly the piano of the Good Future mix starts playing in all of the chaos, sounding like you can still save Palmtree Panic, but only by obtaining all the time stones. This tune is quite dark and depressing, especially considering that this is one of the earliest sonic games. THIS SONG FUCKING SLAPS
Bad Future-
The beautiful tropical grassland that palm tree panic used to be has been completely refurbished by robotnik, miles of water processing and factories are built on the land, polluting the air and the rivers. The chemical spillages of the pipes cause the ground to become purple in colour. Machinery is everywhere and a massive number of badniks guard the zone. Robotnik has claimed his first area.
whenever i hear it, i think of that 9/11 video where the second plane just flies, and then strikes the twin towers once it gets in the frame. primarily the music beat that activates the video in my brain is part frov 0:00 to 0:20. I still like it (THE SONG NOT THE HORRIBLE IMAGINATION)
