FINALLY! Of all the videos I watched, none of them were for the type of toilet that I had. Most have an easy twist off of the top portion of the intake valve, but mine has the same as this, where you have to push down and turn with pliers. After following these directions, I have my toilet flushing back to how it used to and filling back up in 20 seconds, instead of minutes. Thanks so much for this, really appreciate it!
I literally cannot tell you how amazing this video was to me. We have the EXACT same full inlet here in the UK. I took mine apart and the diaphragm was full of gunk (limescale); cleaned it all up in the sink of warm soapy water, reassembled and boom. Worked perfectly for our Western-brand toilet; the fill valve tower is exactly the same. My problem however was the small drain valve at the bottom of the float bowl; without this video I wouldn’t have been able to disassemble the fill valve tower to access the float bowl. Thank you very much, great job!!

While your video skills are lacking you showed me what needed to be done. After taking it apart I couldn't detect any problems but after I put it back together the shut off valve worked perfectly.
Thank you for the video. I dredged up some sediment when replacing a well pressure tank and it clogged up the water inlet for my Glacier Bay toilet. I knew there was some type of filter, but had never needed to clean it before. My toilet is only a single flush model, but the video walked me through what I needed to do to clean the inlet.
This worked perfectly. The only difference is mine had a little red clip that needed to be removed first. It came right out, no tools required. Thank you again for making this video!
Thanks so much for your detailed description; I could have saved a lot of time, if I went to RUclips first, before trying to locate the manufacture's support, that told me to pull the diaphragm housing straight up and out, instead of rotating it.
I had same issue and your video helped me to solve my problem. There were some debris in the rubber seal. After I cleaned it the problem got resolved. Thank you so much
Great video! You described what you were doing perfectly! I have an R & T valve, which isn't exactly the same as this one, but you're directions still worked!
First I twisted the valve head back and forth and saw a rush of black gunk come up. Then I ended up breaking the valve head trying to get off. I went ahead and replaced the whole valve as it was fairly old. Once I removed the old valve I was immediately able to see what was wrong. The rubber gasket was breaking up in tiny pieces and clogging up the valve. In my experience over the years it's so much easier to just replace the valve then spend tons of time trying to diagnose.

Joe - Thank you my man. Just fitted my first concealed cistern, attached pan, waste etc and no leaks! Trouble was the cistern continued to fill despite adjusting float. I shut the water off and disassembled the unit as per your instructions, gave the (brand new) diaphragm components a clean and all is now working well. Many thanks from the UK.
Additional - fill valve still slightly leaking. In 10 hours reaches overflow, so probably something that can be tolerated. The system appears to work by having a very slow leak path into the diaphragm causing it to bend when under pressure from the mains water. When the float pops up a small rubber pad at the other end of the arm touches down onto a tiny aperture. This seals the unit pressuring the diaphragm and shutting off the water - very neat. Short story, clean the rubber pad and the tiny aperture in addition to this video.

OMG, this really helped me. I was able to pull the pin out using my fingers. I used the pliers to open it and it was very easy. I rinse the diaphragm because it had some black stuff in it. It completely fixed the problem of the water coming out of the top.

BUT... it kept running afterwards... then my girl says... just put the lid on... and wouldn't you know it... the toilet lid has to be on for some stupid ass reason.. but hey... it works now... thanks again
I just fixed mine by using this same method, mine doesn't have the pin to pull out, just push-down and turn counter clockwise and clean ed it. My has some sort of white sand or mineral built up which blocked the valve to closed all the way. Thanks for a great video.
These were good instruction and exactly like my tank - but didn't resolve my issue of the water not filling back up after a flush. I even took off the float and cleaned that all around. Any suggestions for that?
Good detailed directions, a couple more steps may be needed: @ 02:10 use a q-tip to clean out the center hole of the fill tube, I removed a bunch of gunk from that hole, and at 02:52 pull out the float connected to the float arm and clean the float and the inside of the float bowl, mine was full of crud causing it to stick.
I was so hoping I could use this video to get mine to work again. Followed to a T. Still takes 10 minutes to refill. May have to get replacement parts. Sux.
I have no water flowing out of the tube when the valve opens to fill the tank after flushing, it's all leaking out from under the top blue cap. I'm going to disassemble it as shown, and hopefully figure out what is blocking the water to flow out of the flexible tube. Thanks very much.
This is very helpful. It explains how to release the fill valve plastic very well but I'm still hesitant to push so hard down on the stopper. It feels like it will break. I'll try again but thanks for at least giving me the confidence to try to fix my leaky fill valve seal on my Glacier Bay dual flush toilet.
I didn't. It was very difficult to turn at first but once you put enough pressure on it, it turns. After doing it the first time and understanding how much force to use, it was much easier doing it a second time (I purchased an incorrect replacement valve the 1st time).
B T I have a toilet just like this one and it's not filling up with water that well.... would this fix it or should I buy a new part? What was wrong with yours?

Seems so easy, I tried and for the life of me I could not remove that top pir=ece under the blue cap. Just went a bought a new fill valve $14.00. Seems to be working better.

Hi, In my case this didn't solve the problem of making the tank fill faster. Instead I paid $7 for the "400A Universal Toilet Fill Valve" at the hardware store and that worked wonderfully. Now my tank fills in about 15 seconds. and took 10 minutes to replace.
Thanks much, this helped me. Mine didn't have debris, but I flushed it out and it no longer occasionally leaks. I also removed the main flapper and hosed and wiped it down. Also I removed it from the toilet, because I felt it would be easier to work on the outside.
Thanks, unfortunately my glacier bay toilet with slow refill from hell. I tried turning valve cap counter clockwise while presisng down and it's impossible to get it off. I tried using vise grip and whole stem turns. Finally got it off. Then when I put it back on, now it doesn't stop refilling. Will replace entire stem with universal fluidmaster stem which is easier to work on.
The reason I made this video is that I was away from home for 1 year working in Las Vegas and my wife was at home in Hawaii when toilet decided to act up. Yup city water crew decided to work on main water line and introduced sediment which found its way into my toilet diaphragm. This cause it to slowly keep filling even after float shut flow off as sediment was not letting diaphragm to seat properly and shut off flow of water. I bought new toilet and made video and posted so my wife could follow steps to fix it. As previous comments stated you should clean and inspect diaphragm to insure all is good and also clean part where diaphragm seats to make sure nothing is causing a bad seal.
@@queensexynenaxox4597 Dont understand you question. Are you talking about the top of the lid where buttons to flush are? If so they are not meant to come off. The whole assembly is held together from underneath of toilet tank lid via big plastic nut. There are 2 plastic tabs that hold each button to chrome ring from under side of tank lid. These tabs are long and if broken render flush button useless.
Edit: resolved I just wanted to let you know I resolved my problem. I had used a regular pair of pliers to open the top of the valve. Accidentally I managed to deform the top valve opening which is a pressure release. What happens when I first fill the tank with the new seal the tank fill fast and works properly. When the tank reached the fill line the arm would engage and the valve stopped the flow. Then at the next flush with the water now above the seal keeps the seal down and does not let the flow into the fill tank. What I had to do was replace the whole fill valve with a fluidmaster one. I have since repaired the opening using acrylic to open and reform the top but am not sure if it will be ‘flush’ (pun intended) with the arm. Will report back later on that. Btw: fluidmaster 242h seal will also replace the Niagara seal for the glacier bay. That comes from Amazon for $4. Niagara will send a new seal for no cost but it takes about a week. My fill valve was corroded. Replacing this allowed an initial fill but not a subsequent one. The internal pressure is not being released in the new valve. If the pressure release hole is blocked would the valve ever fill?
Really hoping you check your comments. This worked for what I need this but I think I did not put it back together the right way. The tank is filling up on its own but it’s just not stopping anymore. Any idea why that would be?
Can this be dismantled completely to clean the insides of the Tube with some cleaning agent? The quality of water supply in our city is very bad and the valves gets chocked with calcification & iron...???
if you shut off water to toilet, drain holding tank completely (use wet vacuum or rags to soak up remaining water as flushing will still leave small amount of water in bottom of tank), undo water fill hose from under side of fill tank (make sure water supply is shut off or BIG mess of gushing water will follow) and put end of fill hose in a small pot or bucket as it will drain water from line onto floor, unscrew plastic nut from bottom of fill tank (part where fill hose screwed onto), pull up on fill valve from inside of fill tank to remove whole fill assembly, all rubber gaskets and internal diaphragm must be removed so only plastic body remains (follow video to remove diaphragm - it just is secured via hole in center to small stem so just pull up evenly and gently on it and it will pop off). You can now soak all plastic body and parts in vinegar, CLR, etc to remove calcium build up. Main flusher can also be done by just turning it counter clockwise (white will be on the left and aqua on the right - turn till it reaches 7 o'clock position *short of a 1/4 turn* and pull up slightly as it almost reaches 7 o.clock position. Assembly will come off and remove large o-ring gasket on bottom of assembly. This o-ring keeps water in tank and if you have a slow leak and not coming from diaphragm fill it will be this gasket. Pull gasket out *looks like a thin flat doughnut* and inspect as if leaking will have bubbles on o-ring which is it de laminating and causing water bypass (Home Depot sells a generic dual flush gasket for about $3.00). Once gasket removed soak same as above and you should be good to go. I would just replace flush gasket if you are going thru all the hassle of cleaning out both units and rebuilding it as its only $3.00 and will ensure leak free for years.

I just got a duel flush toilet is there any water drip that should be happening near the top of the fill valve when you flush it's running thru the rubber hose but if there is water dripping before hose is that a reason the bowl doesn't fill enough. Thanks . Hope you can answer this 😬
I'm on a well so I get crud all the time - sink aerators, etc - so no surprise the toilet inflow eventually became a trickle. Long story short, on my glacier bay there is a filter on the inlet that needed cleaning. Had to take the valve assembly out of the toilet to figure it out, but next time I can just remove the flexible water feed line and pull the filter out with needle nose pliers.
I have the same toilet. The water is not flowing through the tube. Also, I need to replace the seal because mine is worn. Do you know what part I need? The fluidmaster part #242 does not fit. I can't get the thing to turn after putting that seal on.
thank youuuuuu soooo much! Omfg I am renting this place and we just could not figure out why big chunks of mold keep on showing up. I did some searching and I found that the mold is coming from this piece and getting set into the bowl after being flushed.
Although you have to evacuate the remaining water in the tank, and due to size of your hands limited due to limitation of free airspace within the tank. I chose to disconnect the incoming water supply line, then removed the (exterior fill tube retaining nut) fill tube and it was much easier. Plus I used a soft bristle toothbrush to clean all areas of brown water stains and scum and reassembled. Much, much easier, although you have to ensure fill tube gasket seal is still good...
Excellent. Otherwise I might have pulled the whole WC out to replace the flush assembly. Smallest amount of debris there, but that was the cause of the problem. Good advice. thanks.
Found most of debris specially hard water deposits at the bottom area of the valve mostly at the filter with the o-ring as the water goes in. Maybe removal of the entire filler valve from the bottom is easier?

Thanks helped fix mine. I had to tap on the top cap piece with screwdriver and hammer lightly to get the thing to break loose

Thanks this fixed my issue. I thought it was the large flapper having the issue but it turned out to be this smaller fill valve.

This helped so freaking much. Just used a magnet to get iron bits out. Had a plumber change some pipes and that had shook some deposits downstream.

What if you can't push and turn? I snapped off one of the sides when trying to push and turn. Probably too much buildup...

Thanks much, this helped me. Mine didn't have debris, but I flushed it out and it no longer occasionally leaks. I also removed the main flapper and hosed and wiped it down. Also I removed it from the toilet, because I felt it would be easier to work on the outside.

Thanks, unfortunately my glacier bay toilet with slow refill from hell. I tried turning valve cap counter clockwise while presisng down and it's impossible to get it off. I tried using vise grip and whole stem turns. Finally got it off. Then when I put it back on, now it doesn't stop refilling. Will replace entire stem with universal fluidmaster stem which is easier to work on.
The reason I made this video is that I was away from home for 1 year working in Las Vegas and my wife was at home in Hawaii when toilet decided to act up. Yup city water crew decided to work on main water line and introduced sediment which found its way into my toilet diaphragm. This cause it to slowly keep filling even after float shut flow off as sediment was not letting diaphragm to seat properly and shut off flow of water. I bought new toilet and made video and posted so my wife could follow steps to fix it. As previous comments stated you should clean and inspect diaphragm to insure all is good and also clean part where diaphragm seats to make sure nothing is causing a bad seal.

@@queensexynenaxox4597 Dont understand you question. Are you talking about the top of the lid where buttons to flush are? If so they are not meant to come off. The whole assembly is held together from underneath of toilet tank lid via big plastic nut. There are 2 plastic tabs that hold each button to chrome ring from under side of tank lid. These tabs are long and if broken render flush button useless.

I just wanted to let you know I resolved my problem. I had used a regular pair of pliers to open the top of the valve. Accidentally I managed to deform the top valve opening which is a pressure release.
What happens when I first fill the tank with the new seal the tank fill fast and works properly. When the tank reached the fill line the arm would engage and the valve stopped the flow. Then at the next flush with the water now above the seal keeps the seal down and does not let the flow into the fill tank.
What I had to do was replace the whole fill valve with a fluidmaster one. I have since repaired the opening using acrylic to open and reform the top but am not sure if it will be ‘flush’ (pun intended) with the arm. Will report back later on that.
Btw: fluidmaster 242h seal will also replace the Niagara seal for the glacier bay. That comes from Amazon for $4. Niagara will send a new seal for no cost but it takes about a week.
My fill valve was corroded. Replacing this allowed an initial fill but not a subsequent one. The internal pressure is not being released in the new valve. If the pressure release hole is blocked would the valve ever fill?

Really hoping you check your comments. This worked for what I need this but I think I did not put it back together the right way. The tank is filling up on its own but it’s just not stopping anymore. Any idea why that would be?
I think I did not keep the main pipe in place that you mentioned to hold while we opened the top up. Could that be it?

Can this be dismantled completely to clean the insides of the Tube with some cleaning agent? The quality of water supply in our city is very bad and the valves gets chocked with calcification & iron...???
if you shut off water to toilet, drain holding tank completely (use wet vacuum or rags to soak up remaining water as flushing will still leave small amount of water in bottom of tank), undo water fill hose from under side of fill tank (make sure water supply is shut off or BIG mess of gushing water will follow) and put end of fill hose in a small pot or bucket as it will drain water from line onto floor, unscrew plastic nut from bottom of fill tank (part where fill hose screwed onto), pull up on fill valve from inside of fill tank to remove whole fill assembly, all rubber gaskets and internal diaphragm must be removed so only plastic body remains (follow video to remove diaphragm - it just is secured via hole in center to small stem so just pull up evenly and gently on it and it will pop off). You can now soak all plastic body and parts in vinegar, CLR, etc to remove calcium build up. Main flusher can also be done by just turning it counter clockwise (white will be on the left and aqua on the right - turn till it reaches 7 o'clock position *short of a 1/4 turn* and pull up slightly as it almost reaches 7 o.clock position. Assembly will come off and remove large o-ring gasket on bottom of assembly. This o-ring keeps water in tank and if you have a slow leak and not coming from diaphragm fill it will be this gasket. Pull gasket out *looks like a thin flat doughnut* and inspect as if leaking will have bubbles on o-ring which is it de laminating and causing water bypass (Home Depot sells a generic dual flush gasket for about $3.00). Once gasket removed soak same as above and you should be good to go. I would just replace flush gasket if you are going thru all the hassle of cleaning out both units and rebuilding it as its only $3.00 and will ensure leak free for years.

I just got a duel flush toilet is there any water drip that should be happening near the top of the fill valve when you flush it's running thru the rubber hose but if there is water dripping before hose is that a reason the bowl doesn't fill enough. Thanks . Hope you can answer this 😬
I'm on a well so I get crud all the time - sink aerators, etc - so no surprise the toilet inflow eventually became a trickle. Long story short, on my glacier bay there is a filter on the inlet that needed cleaning. Had to take the valve assembly out of the toilet to figure it out, but next time I can just remove the flexible water feed line and pull the filter out with needle nose pliers.

I have the same toilet. The water is not flowing through the tube. Also, I need to replace the seal because mine is worn. Do you know what part I need? The fluidmaster part #242 does not fit. I can't get the thing to turn after putting that seal on.
thank youuuuuu soooo much! Omfg I am renting this place and we just could not figure out why big chunks of mold keep on showing up. I did some searching and I found that the mold is coming from this piece and getting set into the bowl after being flushed.

Although you have to evacuate the remaining water in the tank, and due to size of your hands limited due to limitation of free airspace within the tank. I chose to disconnect the incoming water supply line, then removed the (exterior fill tube retaining nut) fill tube and it was much easier. Plus I used a soft bristle toothbrush to clean all areas of brown water stains and scum and reassembled. Much, much easier, although you have to ensure fill tube gasket seal is still good...
Took me half an hour finding an exact model so that i see how to take the gasket off and clean it. xD

Found most of debris specially hard water deposits at the bottom area of the valve mostly at the filter with the o-ring as the water goes in. Maybe removal of the entire filler valve from the bottom is easier?
