Was so stressed because my toilet stopped flushing. Watched this and did exactly as he did. And it started working. Can officially say I’m a qualified RUclips plumber. This definitely saved me money and headache 🎉🎉

    Thank you so much!
I'm on my own now, and pushing up on my 70th year. I knew how to fix the old ones, and my wonderful husband used to fix everything asap when he was still around, but this new-fangled push-button type had me stumped.
After coaxing and teasing with the mechanism to try to get it to stop leaking water, without success, I'd had enough and decided RUclips was my answer.
And here you are! Bless you, Sir.

What a great idea. Literally just bought a new syphon as mine while it does seal isn't snapping shut like it used to. Generally this is the beginning of the end. What I didn't realise is you could simply twist out the mechanism, I'd normally just disassemble everything / replace the lot. While not hard, it takes time and a new close coupler is required. For the sake of a few quid I'd always replace this, last thing you want is a leak on engaging the flush mechanism. Thanks very much, really love your videos.

What a hero i was given an apointment to wait to fix the unit in the system in given an appointment in 6 days time. I was given directions to turn the isolation valve to stop constant trickle of water and given instructions to turn it to flush the toilet it didnt work i rang them back explaining i had no way of flushing the toilet to be told to throw a bucket full of water down it to force it out ... after flooding the floor and the wall practically running at the toilet with a massive bucket of water i had had enough by this point ... I followed the steps on your video the height needed slightly lowering to get the button back on snug ..turned the isolation valve back on and the water filled in the system ....moment of truth it worked.. thank you so much!

Great tip about the washer. Mine had raised lettering on the one side so I figured the raised lettering would prevent proper seal. Just cleaned it well and reinstalled it smooth side down. Also cleaned inside where it seals to the body inside the toilet. Looks like this worked.
Second issue was my unit does not screw off, there are tabs on either side that have to be released. Not much room for my gnarly hands so i used a boot lace, hooked under the tab and pulled. Replacement gaskets for most name brand units are available on line. If unsure, take the gasket to local plumbing supply or big box hdw stores and compare to get the proper one.

I'm a DYIer and I'm visiting my father-in-law. His guest bathroom toilet has an intermittent leak, so being a devoted son-in-law I'm planning to fix it while I'm here. This toilet is only a few years old. Here in the US these toilets are being used more, but this is the first time I've looked under the hood so to speak. I lifted the tank lid and quickly replaced it realizing that I had no idea how this new contraption worked. Hahaha Thanks to your video I'm feeling a bit better prepared to tackle this problem. Great Video. I have a similar toilet as the one in the video. The supply wouldn't stop because the tank wouldn't fill. Toilet is just out of 1-year warranty and the manufacturer wanted me to get a new complete kit at my expense. But after watching this video, where I saw the main fill valve easily removable helped a lot. The instructions on this video showed me that problem was caused by screw ring that holds the push buttons in tank lid had fallen into the path of fill valve, hence blocking the valve so that the washer couldn't seat. (sloppy install of toilet by contractor!) Thanks for saving me trouble and now no parts or time with this toilet. Fixed!

Sometimes there is embossed writing on the washer, this can act the same as scale or other debri if the washer is turned over. I gave up trying to solve exactly the same problem with our flush/syphon. Our local plumber came to the rescue in the end. He also said he hates those blocks people put into the toilet system so it flushes blue, I think they are actually called Bloo, The paper gets under the washer and breeches the seal causing the system to constantly allow a trickle of water down into the toilet bowl. Great advice again Al, thanks for sharing.

Tyvm for this video & one of your other ones. My mother puts them toilet cistern blocks into the top of the toilet, and ironically that's what it did do, blocked the toilet. Underneath where you push the button the toilet cistern block was stuck in there, so this video educated me how to pull it out and fix it.

It works for me. When I almost wanted to order the new part ($50+), saw your video, tried and it worked, and still works well after two weeks. Thank you!

Thanks Derek. After seeing your very helpful video, I replaced the washer, which was the culprit for water seeping down the pan. However, to remove my siphon unit I had to place both hands at the bottom of the siphon to disengage it before I could lift it clear and examine the washer.

Thanks dereton33 you for teaching me how to take the washer off and put it back on the other way it really saved me as I got a plumber to look at it and he said it would cost $1000

Thank you! Our toilets are serviced by bore water so lots of calcified build up, this worked a treat and remove the build up and get it working again! 🙏

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Both of my toilets started leaking after exactly 5 years (planned obsolescence, anyone?). I inspected the seals and found that water had seeped into both of them causing bubbles to form. I had to special order new seals (weird brand), but as an experiment, I popped the bubbles with a needle and drained the water from them. With the bubbles gone, the seals are roughly back in their original shape, and the leaks seem to have stopped. I'll definitely replace them when the new ones come in, but I'm glad I've confirmed the problem. Thanks again!

So glad I saw your RUclips video. I had this exact problem and after watching I thought I'd have a go.
2mins or less later it was fixed. Brilliant, thank you so much.
I do have one question though. Where do I get a replacement washer ?

On a roll. Have just used you “removing a radiator” one and came across this one, so repaired the dripping toilet cistern as well. Thanks again.

Thank you for posting this. The washer section had detached from the unit and was sitting at the bottom of the cistern. The entire flush valve needed replacing. After watching your video I just ran down to the plumbing supplies store and bingo, job done, toilet fixed. 🙏👏👏👏

Here in Puerto Rico during the Corona Crisis and would just love to thank you for the easy fix.

    Hope this reaches you?
