My woodshop teacher never bought new sandpaper. Every year used the same tattered, uselessly weathered sandpaper from at least 2 years prior. It was so bad in fact that it would take us at least 2/3rds of our total time working on a given project to sand and finish it. Made me hate working with wood all through high school. The kids in that woodshop class are probably still using the sandpaper I used my freshman year.
13:25 "sometimes I like to imagine while I'm making these cuts, I'm thinking about the crafts people who made these same cuts 50 years ago" I can't explain why this comment is so profound. It means a lot to me as an engineer.
Dennis Richards Some times when I'm standing on the moors near my home, I think about the people who stood there 4000 years earlier and looked at roughly the same view. It's great to feel part of a continuing living tradition, whether it's 50 years or 4000.
I've just contradicted yourself. I agree with what you said about what is being made, but you could be making a boat using traditional methods using wooden planks (2x4s) so I can't really agree with your second point. i think history and tradition was probably the target of Savages statement.
+Pedro Silva The thing that really made me cringe is that he didn't even remove a single piece of his jewelry such as his watch which was loose around his wrist. Completely contradicted what I learned in wood shop in school.
Adam savage is a genius!!!! Used to watch Mythbusters avidly and then recently discovered a whole wealth of things to watch via Tested on RUclips. Love watching Adam at work, his skill, practicality, enthusiasm and generally a truly talented man. Love winding down before bed with a one day build vid, keep them coming!!!!!
9:47 This is such a good point. I love when Adam waxes about capturing characters and gestures. That's something that many engineers lack and part of what makes him an artist as well as a designer.
this is stupid but one of my favorite parts of this video is at the very beginning where Adam was able to accept that he had made a calculation mistake and say "Thank you" to the correction. Seeing how smart each and every person is on this show I am sure that it takes quite the drop in pride to admit that a mistake has been made. But I want you to know that it was observed and appreciated.
I don't think he felt a drop in pride... humility may be rare these days but it still exists and is a trait of maybe not all but the older generation of artisans, certainly the ones I know are very humble. I do hope future generations will aspire to the trait 🙂 we can hope
+Salvatore Aversa adam is kind of a jack of all traits, master of one (modelmaking). alot of things he does could have been done much better, and sometimes that does show in the end result, i dont mean this in a negative way, im just saying to a professional, many things he does come of kind of... half assed. i still have huge respect and love for his work, hes the reason i abandoned university and became a carpenter, best decision of my life.
+xx1simon1xx He's a perfect example of a "quick worker". He has a very pragmatic approach to most of the things he does and it sometimes results in what you spoke about in your comment. But then again he can punch out a replica like that, which would have taken other people (like me) weeks to complete. It all has its cons and pros.
Norm reminds me of little kids watching their big brother or fathers working on something and you can see them excited so badly wanting to help, it's kinda sweet.
Watching you work Adam I have to remind myself you are actually a celebrity. You are like the crazy cat next door that has the neighbors worried. Using the jigsaw to cut the center out of the eyelets while holding it in your hand is crazy. I do that same stuff all the time and have cut myself on bandsaws, jigsaws, and even a wood jointer got ahold of a finger. But it's faster to just go for it sometimes. I have watched you over the years in your various endeavors and have developed a lot of respect for your work. It's fast paced mayhem that in the end is freakin amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Norm's role is to host, not to participate. He has a similar perspective to the audience, and is there to help bring the audience along with questions, comments. Also Adam is blitzing through this in a day, designing and problem solving on the fly, so Norm is there to fill the air gaps and make sure Adam doesn't go dark for an hour or two just focused in on working.
Just recently got into watching these videos and love watching the amount of work and skill Adam puts into these things. He just seems not into this build as the other ones I've watched. The fact he forgot the trigger just proves the point. In other builds he keeps getting more excited the closer he gets to the end. In this he just seems to want it over with.
Beautiful...but I don't know why it bothers me so much there's still that little 3/32 gap at the top-rear of the barrel, where it meets the stock. Seems like he could have milled the barrel recess just a LITTLE deeper during the final fit. Eh...everybody's a critic, right?
You guys didn't take into account her added height, due to heels, or the perspective of the photo. The gun is in front of her by a few inches and the camera is slightly lower than the tip of the barrel which would make it a tad taller the height of her eyes (plus the heels).
spuddie6 I know he doesn't have much to work with but I'm SURE he wants it to be as accurate as possible, even with such short build time and limited reference. The scale issue is something easy to compensate for. Would have taken about 20 seconds longer to figure out. Still well within the "one day build" criteria.
Nice trick I learned when making my electric guitar. Clamp a cheap plastic bristle dollar store brush to your table (or in a vice). When the pores of your paper get clogged: smack the paper against it in a brushing motion. You get a lot more use out of each page of paper before it's too clogged to be effective. Works best if your using rubber sanding blocks, something about the way the rubber bounces off the plastic brush clear the paper really easily.
I love how quickly you make things work and how creative you are. I do, however, worry about some of the risks you take by trying to be fast. This video shows that allot of dust was produced and NOWHERE in this video are you seen were respiratory protection.
I saw Barberella at the theater when it came out in 1968. I went by myself and I was 11. It was rated X (which neither my parents or I knew) and I still don’t know why they let me in. Changed my life.
ooltimu , I use the international metric system, darling, I ain't got the least idea how many centimeters there are in a foot or inch (because you know, they are based on metrics). Mine has got 23,5cm, thought haha
I know only that an inch is 2.54 cm an 1 m = 3ft , but that's about it. It's incredibly hard to read articles that measure length or height and use 5'6". I'm like... how can you use 2 totally unrelated units to measure height?!?
+Rebecca Thornson They even talked about "2 more pieces" after making the trigger guard ("This piece and the trigger", but after making the guard and the little piece, he jumped to making the barrel.. The trigger was even on the drawing he made the guard after, but yeah well.. it's a nice build anyway :)
You previously mentioned the importance of good lighting. I'd say don't forget the importance of breathable air. A good ventilation over places with dust, smoke and vapor will keep you mind and eyes in good shape. There are overhead types that you can move above your head as you move around the shop.
Noah Christman The 'trigger' on the outside is actually in the picture. So it's not that they put the trigger in the wrong spot it's that they skipped adding the trigger. At 1:06:48 You can see that the piece on the outside should be there. I noticed because I was confused as to what was going on with the trigger until I saw the picture at the end.
I love watching Barbarella a great one off, and I've enjoyed watching this video it is one hell of a build to make that iconic gun, it was a pleasure to see you at work and in your element putting this piece together. Also that you made it up as you worked through, not an easy job and basically winging it. I would love to have an awesome work shop that you have. I myself, love model making even though I've not done a lot, it's a hobby really, though I would love to do as a job instead of stacking shelves at a supermarket. I don't have a lot of money and do everything in my small bedsit in the UK. I challenged myself to build something big. I've collected a lot of materials, mostly cardboard, cardboard inner tubes, and basically a lot of cardboard, and a lot foam core and PVA. I've been building a space-station, mushroom and industrial in appearance, with a large saucer section. It stands about five foot four, almost taller than me. Now I decided to make it even tougher by adding LED lights to bring it to life. These LED's are the battery powered type you get at Christmas and I've lost count how many I've put inside and out. It's also been an enterprising effort to hide the battery packs, some are internal others are external, with removable panels to access the switches. My dad did tell me I could have put them all on one circuit and power them through the mains but my knowledge of electronics is limited and besides it has been a fun brain teaser. The build is getting there, right now I'm adding external features, textures before rendering. It has taken me about 2 years to get to this point. Adam, you are an inspiration, love watching your channel, lots of interesting builds, challenges, show visits and tours behind the scenes of the many movie workshops that span the world. Awesome stuff.
Hi Adam, I really admire your work, the confidence you have. built on years of experience is breathtaking!. But, I do worry about your exposure to dust and contaminates. Even though the board you're using doesn't contain formaldehyde, the raw dust can collect in the lungs to form a claggy mucus that can solidify over years and cause breathing problems. I do understand the creative urge and even I get carried away occasionally, only later to realise I haven't used a mask. I'm nagging cos' I care. Be well and thank you for including us in your creative world. Best wishes, cal ;-)
I'm really loving these One Day Build videos. It's the best part of what I loved about Mythbusters, the construction of the pieces. I don't know if you (or anyone) will read this comment, given that it's on a video so far removed from it's launch date, but if so, might I suggest a flash of a time code in the corner of the video every once in awhile, to give us, the viewer, an estimate of what time you've arrived at. For example, after cutting the wood to get the basic shape of the Barbarella rifle, how long it took you to get to that point. Other than this, there's no complaints. I miss seeing you on Mythbusters, but this is better in some aspects. All the construct and building, with explanations and theories behind the conclusions and (thankfully) nothing getting blown up. Kudos to you all!!
+InvictusByzantium I always thought that Adam is just funny or silly, while Jamie is more serious. They both are insanely skilled. However, I feel that they have different strong points. Adam wanted to be portrayed as silly... that never means he is incompetent. You can tell by watching his face when he is talking and messing around and when he is avidly working on a project.
+InvictusByzantium I've always seen Adam as the most intelligent and skilled one in the show, Jamie being the less intelligent of the two and credited more than should be. Adam is just a bit clumsy and gets hurt a lot, that's all.
GeirGunnarss What's your point? Ok, so he has a bunch of titles and works in high places, that doesn't mean anything other than he's able to get things done... eventually. When it comes to competitions and quick thinking, Adam is usually the one with the bright ideas right away while Jamie usually resorts to cheating. And I never said Jamie wasn't intelligent, I mean, obviously he's very intelligent. I just meant that between the two, Adam's ingeniousness comes off as a bit underrated.
+InvictusByzantium Adam's always seemed very skilled to me, he's just very enthusiastic about a lot of things. High energy and enthusiasm make you seem less "serious," and therefor seem less skilled, but often times the people who have the most enthusiasm for something are the best at it.
Adam's 1-day builds = week of head scratching and procrastination for me.. Mythbusters was an awesome show, but this channel definitely is alot more detailed with the steps needed to build, and having Adam give little pro tips are very helpful..
Awesome build, cant get enough watching you knock out projects on the daily, i loved learning all the different techniques used in this build, especially the metal fillings used on the barrel ive never seen those before, good job you guys!
Da40kOrks Yeah I was thinking that too. Tho he does mention he was not worried about getting it exactly the same, and those heels look to only be an inch or two so would prob not make a big difference.
I just noticed, Adam is doing a lot of work with his tongue ;) I really like what he's doing. Sometimes I even think: "I could do this too" at least when it is a build where he doesn't use too many of those fancy tools he collected over the years. Oh, Adam forgot the trigger :D
+MrSeagull meh. i work in a woodshop everyday, i usualy dont wear a mask, unless i sand oak or beech (those can cause cancer) everything else just disolves in your lungs and isnt harmfull, you get used to it pretty fast
+w0mbles Agreed. Now I'm no expert, but it seems highly unlikely that plant cellulose dust dissolves in any appreciable way and woodworker's lung is a very real condition
I'm only 6 minutes in but have to say... you guys should look up Matthias Wandel's "Big Print" program. You could take that image (which I presume you found online) , define the lengthy in the program and it would be able to print it out life size for you. woodgears.ca/bigprint/ Windows only, unfortunately.
Hello everyone :) i know Adam from mythbusters but just after watching some of videos from this channel i become conscious that he is master at his work...Master is weak word this man is Ninja at his work that he is doin so Adam here is big like from me..big hats off from Slovakia (Slovak Republic) nice to watch your videos salut :)
I'm usually impressed with Adam's creations, but I have to say that this build left me disappointed. I guess I was hoping for a replica rifle nearly indistinguishable from a working gun, but what Adam creates here is IMO just a poor prop gun. By not using real hardwood for the stock & making a 'plastic' barrel end piece & just chroming it had me thinking that Adam just didn't care. He obviously doesn't think this weapon deserves the same level of attention as his beloved Blade Runner pistol or Star Wars blaster. And I understand that to make this in a day you have to cut corners, I get that.(Adam actually says it himself in the video at 1:45, "I don't want to take a lot of time, I want to get this knocked out.") So maybe it was a bad idea to make this a one day build? I dunno, who else agrees? As a cheap prop that you're only gonna see for a second or two then move on it's fine, but if you wanna treasure this item for years you gotta do better than this. Just my opinion. (I did love the part about asking Siri how tall Jane Fonda was, lol)
Do you know how busy Adam must be? Not everything has to be a 100% accurate replica, even less so when he's working on a prop that has only one reference picture. Obviously this doesn't mean as much to him as the Blade Runner pistol, so obviously his not going to be working on it for tens of years. Plus, many of the movie props at that time were made like this, they weren't actual working guns obviously, so why would Adam make it like that? He gave a perfectly good explanation which you even quoted, so I think you should just accept that.
aDotFromTheFuture Yes, obviously I know he's not going to spend the time on this that he devotes to his most coveted items like Blade Runner & Star Wars, which are the most iconic memorabilia so that makes perfect sense, I just wish he'd used better materials than this & it wouldn't have taken him so much more time to do it. What he did create was perfectly ok looking, it just wouldn't hold up under closer scrutiny. You wouldn't examine it and mistake it for a real weapon if you actually handled it. But if he used real hardwood & a real barrel, etc. that would have taken him say twice as long (not 10 years) to make it would have turned out a much better item. And compared to other one day builds it seems he did try harder to make them than this (Blade Runner pistol box, beaver carry box, etc.)
James Shelnutt Twice as long might have been too long. Besides, Adam is a movie prop maker, so he's going to think like one. And like I said, many of the movie props were made like this, using materials that were cheap and fast to work with. I don't know have you ever worked with hard wood, but it really is much, much harder that LDF. So yes, it would have taken a much longer time to work with. The other one day builds were much simpler (or less time consuming), so it may have looked like he tried harder to make them, but really they were just easier to build.
I'm really only disappointed with the wood finish, the barrel flare, and the complete lack of a trigger mechanism. I think right at the end of the video, as they're signing off, he looked at it and realized there was no trigger. This build is overall in line with the others, and I still found it fascinating enough to watch for over an hour, but it was missing the little intricacies that these builds often have.
It's version one, created in a few hours. I beg you to give it a shot. See how your version #1 comes out. Was this perfect? No, but he will step away, reassess and improve on the design until he's more than satisfied. My nit picks were mainly the way the barrel was butted up against the stock. It left a large gap. No doubt Adam saw that too, but he pressed on rather than going back and forth to get the join just right. I think the overall shape needs refinement too. Still it was a smashing first try.
I'm here from the future (2023) and I am fascinated by the difference in Adam between then and now. With Norm in the cave he is a completely different person - no shouting, no "I LOVE IT" at the top of his voice, no strange accents, no whistling, and no drumming. He is SO MUCH calmer, quieter and is much more informative. He imparts information to US by explaining it to Norm (who doesn't need the explanation!)
Somebody mentioned that in the comments before, but also that she has her legs slightly spread in the picture and isn't standing completely straight up, so that would approximately negate the height increase of the heels. I thought that was a sensible idea, don't you?
I wish he would have made grain to make it look more realistic, put in the trigger, and made it longer to compensate for her heels in the photo. However, it was still an awesome build.
Jason SealMan ProzacPreacher It's not the wood that's so dangerous, it's the binder and formaldehyde in MDF/LDF that's the real problem, very carcinogenic.
Young whippersnapper is like “You’re doing this by hand; could you use CAD for that”. Old pros don’t need computers. This skill level - in so many industries - is a lost art.
Unless you're sanding something toxic or dangerous, a mask would mostly be for comfort. Some will get caught in your snot, but that's what snot is for. If this was a job, he'd probably be required to wear a mask, but it's his shop, his lungs, he can do what he wants.
What the other comment said. And really. Just personal preference. With wood I could care less unless it's super fine dust which annoys my nose, then I'll wear a mask.
This isn't the only science-fiction rifle replica build we've featured. Check out our District 9 Alien Assault Rifle Prop Replica video: ruclips.net/video/ZY6k6foXEN8/видео.html
U didn’t include the trigger
Anything done by Jane Fonda should be blacklisted. She aided the Vietcong against the US. She is a traitor.
real beauty about this built is in how easily this task was accomplished.
What are the names of the threads that Adam used to enable parts of the rifle to be taken off with ease? Those definitely sound very useful!
My woodshop teacher never bought new sandpaper. Every year used the same tattered, uselessly weathered sandpaper from at least 2 years prior. I love that there's no background music to this. Real old school instructional film with a cool guy without overproduction!
It's kinda weird/interesting going back to some of these older build videos and seeing how much Adam's shop has evolved over the years
I miss these more slow and more detailed videos without too much editing..
watching him working with that band saw and jig saw always gives me the chills
Pedro Silva I agree. I definitely cringed when he started using the jigsaw without securing his work.
Pedro Silva what about when he actually MOVED the power sander while it was still on? O_O
+Pedro Silva It's Adam we're talking about here, there's a reason why he's frequently seen covered in casts / plasters and burnt eyebrows...
Somebody call OSHA! :P
+Pedro Silva The thing that really made me cringe is that he didn't even remove a single piece of his jewelry such as his watch which was loose around his wrist. Completely contradicted what I learned in wood shop in school.

There is no drop in pride when you make a mistake, happens all the time in science. I'd be more worried if a person never made mistakes.
I love watching Tested. It's just like watching cooking tv shows: You're learning a lot of techniques that you won't ever use.

Broke every health and safety rule in the book. For this, I love this build and video. I doff my cap to you.

If you look at the picture the top of the barrel is not flush with the stock/housing
Bothering me too
+pikybird77 I think what that is is a barrel band.
+Richard Rowe yeah, could have made a thread on the end of the barrel and just screwed it into a thread in the stock... you know.. like a gun.
You guys didn't take into account her added height, due to heels, or the perspective of the photo. The gun is in front of her by a few inches and the camera is slightly lower than the tip of the barrel which would make it a tad taller the height of her eyes (plus the heels).
If it's a one day build, I don't think he cares about total accuracy. He just wants one quickly
spuddie6 I know he doesn't have much to work with but I'm SURE he wants it to be as accurate as possible, even with such short build time and limited reference. The scale issue is something easy to compensate for. Would have taken about 20 seconds longer to figure out. Still well within the "one day build" criteria.
actually those aren't heels she is wearing in the photo they are boots. which would add maybe 1/2inch to her height.
What's that raised part on the back of a boot called? Oh yeah, a "heel".
...and It's clearly more than a half in tall. Go check some reference.
But she's also not standing straight. Her legs are parted taking away another few inches.
I like these vids more than Mythbusters, to be honest. I'm a designer and creator myself, so this does more for me than the gimmicks of the show.

I wonder if they ever noticed.

also where the barrel starts there is a gap. although in the photo there is another metal plate to cover that up.

Yeah, the spray paint was worrisome also.

a foot is 12 inches
and how many feet is a yard? and how many yards are in a mile? and how many feet are in a mile? ...
inches in a mile? should I go on?
They forgot the most important part, the actual trigger.
John Pratt And all the fireing mechanism. Let's make it a real rifle!
jo l it does have a trigger in the picture. it's curvy as hell and gets close to the guard, but it's there.
jo l they said trigger like 9 times in the video
Yeap they didn't put a trigger
John Pratt So they didn't add the thing that they kept talking about....that I'm watching them add right now?
This is very pleasant without annoying mythbusters music and editing.
Cuz this isn't Mythbusters
Brad Stidem Brilliant
This would be a great piece to revisit all these years later. I would love to see it redone/remade with Adam’s love for coloring and weathering.
Cutting MDF without a dust mask.. ouch. :P
Its LDF as he said. Its not so toxic.
CTMinecraftia 15:20 He states MDF.
it was LDF
Hey what mask do i use for this cutting and painting?
Maekiii listen to this 1:06:30
Did anyone else notice how the trigger was never placed in?
Yeah, I noticed after reading your comment and seeing the picture again at the end. The OCD part of me couldn't leave that part out lol.
missing the trigger
+Ryan Sizemore ikr. irritating the hell outta me!
+Ryan Sizemore It does indeed have a trigger.
Rebecca Thornson no. look at the source pic. he missed a piece...
I was saying that the whole time haha
absolutely fell in love with the shape of this thing and seeing it come together
You will ride eternal, shiny and chrome!
+TakanashiYuuji How does this not have more likes?
shabesh Shanmuganathan too obscure maybe? :>
Ya probably right :(
+TakanashiYuuji Fury road reference?
+jacob konkler yup
You previously mentioned the importance of good lighting. I'd say don't forget the importance of breathable air. A good ventilation over places with dust, smoke and vapor will keep you mind and eyes in good shape. There are overhead types that you can move above your head as you move around the shop.
Adam, err..uuh, you forgot the actual trigger in this vid...
That's is what the metal piece behind the guard is. Except they put it in the wrong spot.
Noah Christman no he is right if you go to the end you can see in the picture it has a trigger in the trigger guard
It wouldn't matter anyway since you cant shoot with it, obviously
DarkPaintballer90 i know, the one they made had the trigger on the outside, the picture has it on the inside
Awesome stuff.
how some people can't watch this man work for hours on end I'll never understand
Watching Adam have fun is my life.
🤔...then don't
Critical Critic he said *Can't* not *Can* ya dip

Didn't even see how long this video was just played it and watched then realised that it was an hour
Same lol
Yeah about half way through I paused it and saw what I had gotten myself into lol.
Same
same here lol
I realized quite quickly, but one does not simply turn off Adams one day builds.
Love watching these long video's of Adam creating something awesome.
Damn grant changed alot
lol
I wish!
The Pillow Palace Woooooooosh
Kai that isnt grant
EACHES88 Woosh
One day build for Adam. 3 month project for all of us.
I could imagine if Adam was my dad. We would build alot of cool stuff together.
Same
a lot isn't a word. Even autocorrect says so!
Oh, this is the biggest one I ever had. You hear that Elizabeth? I'm coming to join you honey.
Mr. UnFuckWitable
Michael Dust Someone wasn't loved as a child.
I just stumbled upon this great video, and never realized what a true craftsman Adam Savage is. Well done and very informative.
brace yourself for all the comments who think their experts in this field
and how unsafe he is, despite being a seasoned professional and a grown ass man.
FourFifteen Concepts He'll still probably have astma/emphysema and die of some poisoning ie. his work will kill him. But I guess he'd appreciate it.
Esa Edvik We all have to make choices.
they're* And the comments think they are the experts or the commenters do?
hotelkilo006 really?
Hi Adam, I really admire your work, the confidence you have. built on years of experience is breathtaking!. But, I do worry about your exposure to dust and contaminates. Even though the board you're using doesn't contain formaldehyde, the raw dust can collect in the lungs to form a claggy mucus that can solidify over years and cause breathing problems. I do understand the creative urge and even I get carried away occasionally, only later to realise I haven't used a mask. I'm nagging cos' I care. Be well and thank you for including us in your creative world. Best wishes, cal ;-)
My dad used to say "you can make everything with wood"... he was damn right.
yeah that's how he made you right?
***** Hahahahaha
Kudos to you all!!
they forgot the trigger
LucasIsHere That makes me triggered
And she's leaning so all together that's at least 4 inches shorter
And she has one inch heels on
"There's different materials, metal and wood" good job 😂😂(love the one day builds)
Funny how Mythbusters portrays Adam as the borderline incompetent one when in reality he is so insanely skilled.
+InvictusByzantium I wonder how much of it is editing and just Adam himself playing it up?
How did they forget the trigger?!
I's a one day build, they were in a rush and they were making a "tv show"/vlog.
it would have been easier to work out the scale f you guys had been working in Metric.........just saying.......
Nah it's easier to say 1/25th of an inch than 1 millimiter. lolol
you can make decimal fractions out of anything
I was thinking the same thing, Kenneth.
MuhaloTube Can you milk me? Wait no, can you make decimal fractions out of me?
Jaden Oldfield Excellent reference.
That is amazing to watch. I could do with a few more feature length builds :)
Awesome build, cant get enough watching you knock out projects on the daily, i loved learning all the different techniques used in this build, especially the metal fillings used on the barrel ive never seen those before, good job you guys!
Looks like they forgot to account for her heels in the measurements.
Da40kOrks Yeah I was thinking that too. Tho he does mention he was not worried about getting it exactly the same, and those heels look to only be an inch or two so would prob not make a big difference.
karnthis i think it's pretty close, if u consider that the heels make up for the loss of height when the person in the photo spreads her legs
+Da40kOrks They also got Jane Fonda's height wrong. She is 5' 8"... not 5' 6"
+erikdravn Yep. His Siri is wrong. My phone said it correct.
What a cool dad this guy must be.
God what I'd do for this shed.
Not a shed, it’s a cave
I just noticed, Adam is doing a lot of work with his tongue ;)
I really like what he's doing. Sometimes I even think: "I could do this too" at least when it is a build where he doesn't use too many of those fancy tools he collected over the years.
Oh, Adam forgot the trigger :D
10X better than mythbusters
Herpa Derp no way
Wear a mask Adam!!
+Jesse Taylor I was thinking the same thing through the video... I imagine he was coughing up sawdust for days.
+MrSeagull
meh. i work in a woodshop everyday, i usualy dont wear a mask, unless i sand oak or beech (those can cause cancer) everything else just disolves in your lungs and isnt harmfull, you get used to it pretty fast
Campalai
yeah, because i know what im talking about i shouldnt procreate, makes sense.
how about you explain why you think im wrong?
+Campalai Didn't we all agree not to tell the fools? So, do not tell!
+w0mbles
Agreed.
They spoke of techniques like that in the vid , Adam usually likes to go free hand.
LogicalStatements3 right you are... I should know better than to comment before I've finished watching!
I didn't realize how long this was until I was 45 minutes in and looked at the time!
Kyle Amoroso same lol
ikr there goes 1 hour of my life!
gabe juhasz An hour well spent!
agreed
Adam, what's the deal with the barrel not lining up flush with the stock and sticking up?
That was driving me crazy. I kept waiting for him to do something about it.
right??
smeezer Thats called perfectionists nightmare
its also missing a metal ring around where the barrel meets ups with the stock
its really cool, stepping back in time and looking at these videos and seeing how adam's workshop has grown
39:18 I love how he drops the screw and just picks a new one
loving these videos.. but man the host just keeps pointing at everything unnecessarily
48:15 "coming in the next day..." ... ... ... One Day Builds.
+Josh Fox 24hour build is a day. Simply because the sun went down and came up does not mean it wasn't finished within the allotted time frame.
Anna Hughes Fair enough. That's a valid point.
I also feel like if this was a modern video, 7/8 of the build would be done on the lathe and mill. 😂
Adam...she isn't in her bare feet. There are heels on her boots.
exactly what I was thinking. her heels are like 3.5 or 4 inches high.
right but didn't he google her exact height? ?
Destiny Blissitt Yeah, he did. HER height, not the height of her in heels in that picture.
Somebody mentioned that in the comments before, but also that she has her legs slightly spread in the picture and isn't standing completely straight up, so that would approximately negate the height increase of the heels. I thought that was a sensible idea, don't you?
Zachary Perry Dunno that it'd mitigate ALL of it, but it would certainly do so for quite a bit, yes...and the remainder would probably be neglible.
I wish he would have made grain to make it look more realistic, put in the trigger, and made it longer to compensate for her heels in the photo. However, it was still an awesome build.
ha he's just kicking that belt sander around while it's on. that seems extraordinarily dangerous
I was thinking the exact same thing
+noobb1212 matter of opinion
+turgsh01 not really
What I like about Adam is he is old school with his technics. Great work Adam.
missed a piece....the firing trigger
+drago black Yup
Ikr
I've studied that picture as well for quite some time now... I am still unable to find a gun in that picture... O.o ...
Is it missing the trigger? Like it's an amazing build and all but if that's been intentional left out, that's a big omission.
It's intentionally left out. You don't want it to be confused with a firearm, even if it is a prop.
Ah ok
I'm sorry, but if you mistake this for an actual firearm, you're way too scared of firearms :P
no its a general rule for cosplay and non movie props
Once again you two made my day. I learned a lot, reinforced what I knew, and had fun! Cool build.
Even though LDF is not as hazardous as MDF i would have still thought a face mask would be a good idea Mr Savage! Your poor lungs!
All wood dust, even untreated, is a potential health risk.
ProzacPreacher it also doesnt taste very good.
I've been inhaling wood dust all my life....so has my grandpa. I think you guys have weak bodies
Jason SealMan and people have been smoking and not getting cancer, thats why its totally safe right?
Jason SealMan ProzacPreacher It's not the wood that's so dangerous, it's the binder and formaldehyde in MDF/LDF that's the real problem, very carcinogenic.
Young whippersnapper is like “You’re doing this by hand; could you use CAD for that”. Old pros don’t need computers. This skill level - in so many industries - is a lost art.
"Now, I wanna be carefu.. Ooh shoot" :D
I love the new format a lot more. Just Adam. Its such a better format.
Trigga please..
Should he be wearing a mask when he is sanding
Unless you're sanding something toxic or dangerous, a mask would mostly be for comfort. Some will get caught in your snot, but that's what snot is for. If this was a job, he'd probably be required to wear a mask, but it's his shop, his lungs, he can do what he wants.
What the other comment said. And really. Just personal preference. With wood I could care less unless it's super fine dust which annoys my nose, then I'll wear a mask.
Sephtrix yeah hè should. Just as hè should wear masks and gloves with painting. both hè doen t do and makes me irritated when watching it.
Abby van der Pluijm His shop, his lungs. He's been doing this for years, he knows what he's doing, he can do what he wants.
MDF can be pretty shitty to breath in but I agree with Ferserious2 - his shop, his lungs - as for the camera crew, flip a coin
imagine being called Mr. Savage!?!!
That was one hour??? What? It went so good. Adam can so good take you into his world of seeing things. I'm actually speechless. Great Vid thanks alot
