Dear Mr Adam Savage, I know I am late to this video and you have much more important things to do then answer silly questions on RUclips. But the mill that you're using in your shop looks like an old Bridgeport or Sharp? I have not noticed a name plate so it could be anything. I am looking to buy an older machine myself to tinker in the garage and I was curious to see what the king of tinkering used. I truly appreciate your craftsmanship. Sincerely, Jeff from Western Pennsylvania
2:21 - Adam is kind of like a human-shaped Golden Retriever. Just stops talking. An idea forms. Looks over the side. Runs off. And you just have to trust that he knows what he's doing (which he usually does).
I love when Adam does that "I have an idea, but I am going to run away from the camera and not say what I am thinking for 15 seconds" type scenario leaving me to wonder what he is thinking. Almost a "'Guess what Adam is thinking. You have 15 seconds" game.
"off camera" meaning it's a cameo but that she is not present on the picture/in front of the camera at this moment. (so he probably understood that it was Simon Giertz)
Ever consider just placing a god's view camera in Adam's workshop and streaming the footage whenever Adam is inside? It's so exciting watching Adam's raw childlike reactions.
I think they could rig a couple cameras in the corners of the room to get some cool shots. And if they had one bird's eye camera that rotated in the middle to always point towards the center, ooh, the timelapses they could have.
I get weirdly excited about how organized Adam's tools and materials are. It's exceedingly satisfying to have someone ask you for something and you can tell them EXACTLY where it is.
Ellen you have been outed as the creator of Laura's sweet jacket. Since you aren't drawing attention to your work I will. Gotta support our fellow makers!
I love that you're so comfortable working wirh someone else in your creative space.... Not territorial or competitive..... I see the joy of collaboration.
2:38 *Grabs metal pipe* What I'm toying around with the idea of is- wait..." *Casually shapes metal pipe with bandsaw in 8 seconds flat* "What I'm toying around with-"
In case you're interested, "ow" in English would be pronounced like "wow", "cow" or "meow". It's what you say when you hurt yourself. What Adam said was "oh!", which is pronounced like "throw", "crow" or "low".
Like any Female Laura thinks, if she acknowledges you in conversation, she's allowed to say, *"Half of your Kampf is Mein"* xD You know that was funny you basterds!!!
That goes to show you just how fast the gears in Adam's brain turn. At that point, his mind has already left his mouth behind. He's running through tons of ideas and deciding to just get the things he needs while the ideas are still fresh.
The bottles are normed in europe it is called: KK28(kronenkork) or KM(Kombimündung) but there are 2sizes of caps with an odd an an even number of teeth called standard and mini, these are meant for automatic and manual machines (you need odd for automatic feeders). I sold bottles for a living prior to becoming a full time maker
They're all "the same" in the states too, he's just got Mexican Coke and Jaritos Mexican sodas, which are both made in... Mexico. So no country has ones that are truly all the same, unless they import zero bottled drinks. So if you are in Germany and you have anything imported, it'll be different.
Random observation: I think its interesting that at 44:04 (the final test) Adam doesn't fully blink during the *pop*, nor does he express exaggerated anticipation of the impact. He sees the complete action, steady and uninterrupted and I think that's kind of a beautiful insight into the skills he's developed over a life of building and refining amazing machines.
MisterSavage. You really should have an annual contest where you have one contestant come into your shop and you help them build something they want to. Basically an essay contest what they want to build and why they want to build it with YOU. You are an amazing human and I think this would make for some amazing content!
So, can we get a maker TV show similar to Chopped (but less cookie cutter)? Like have seasoned makers/builders/inventors build projects with either limited and/or required materials. See what they can build with limited resources, out of their element. Honestly, I kind of just want to see what Adam would do in an unfamiliar shop where he can't have one of those, "OOOH! I've got just the thing!" moments before grabbing a package of assorted hedgehog spines and having to decide which color to use.
There used to be a TV show called scrapheap challenge that was almost like that, but as a competition with two teams that had to build the best machine with what they could find on a scrapheap.
André Berger Yea, I just had to look up the connection, but I remember the US version "Junkyard Wars" back in the early 2000s. I miss that kind of TV, even though I remember it being pretty cheesy. I think a revamped version of the concept would work well these days with the Maker Movement. There was also a Jim Hensen Creature Shop competition show more recently I only ever saw one season of, but remember it had a lot of time spent showing what, how, and why the competitors were making the mechanics and finishes on their projects.
haha I remember junkyard wars, I think Adam would do really well with that concept. Also, the initial post with the comment about hedgehog spines had me laughing :D
Actually, there's a new show that just started called "Making It" which is basically Great British Bake Off meets crafts/making. It's pretty sweet. Not really as engineering focused as these kinds of videos though. Has Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman as hosts, can't go wrong there!
I wish I could be Adam, he's truly living the life. I aspire to be like him when I'm older. You can see how much he loves his work, I love watching his videos they truly motivate me to get through college.
And a bonus Simone! I really liked that while you "threw this together" in four hours, and kinda hacked along as needed, in the end, in close-up you see such fine joinery and hardware. Besides working, it's beautiful.
I think this is one of my favourite videos on tested, the sheer child like wonderment mixed with adults that clearly have a love and passion for problem solving and making things that ......just work, found myself smiling at the last opening just as much as Adam!
omg the looks of total 100% joy on both of your faces, when you heard the first POP. Loving catching up and some rewatching to pass the covid time away.
I haven't seen Adam so challenged & inspired in real time. 2 of the best maker RUclipsrs pushing each other to creative solutions in a dream workshop - such an enjoyable bit o content to watch, thankyou
I think I just may have enjoyed this build more than you two!! Bravo!!! Adam your excitement is evident, your a master craftsmen, and you always see it through!
I've been a fan since I was 4 or 5 with Mythbusters, now with each one of these shows I love seeing the frantic yet OCD precise nature of how Adam does things. It makes me realize that I now build things in this same manner and I'm happy that I've learned from the best. Thanks Adam!
Two of my favorite makers at it again making a thoroughly goofy but beautiful thing, and this time with Laura wearing the jacket Crafts With Ellen made for her and with Simone making an appearance? My day is made!
There could be a game where people come to Adam's shop and name various tools or materials. Adam has to say where exactly it is in the shop. If he doesn't have it he can try to bluff. Adam gets points for being right or successfully bluffing. The other person gets points if he doesn't have it or correctly calls a bluff.
The end product is, of course, extremely enjoyable to see functioning. (I just sat an grinned like a child.) However, there is something truly satisfying about watching the process. It's awesome to be "in" on the brainstorming and the problem solving. I also appreciate that there is NO background music during the build. It is unnecessary and would have been distracting. This is such a fantastic series! THANKS, ADAM!
I love the juxtaposition of Laura's very careful and calculated movements and thought process against the Adam's chaotic excited nature. Its a really nice dynamic
not only did you help me find my courage laura, you teamed up with adan and together you inspired me to realize and exercise the over engineerer in me!!! So much nerdy love to you both. Gosh Darn it's my Rebirthday, so let's get hammered at my place in Vermont!!?
This kind of video is terrible when you want to leave it on in the background while you get things done. Because you can't get things done- it's too interesting! Thanks!
Yup, that's exactly what I wanted to say. I usually leave a YT video in the background while I'm working, but if I try to watch one of Adam's, I always end up glued to the screen and the work not done...
Acknowledges silly RUclips comments section people who complain about his workshop habits, then does it anyways. Love it. Everybody just relax he knows what he's doing.
These two compliment each other’s skills and strengths. Adam’s brain seems to be always trying to figure out the mechanics. Laura’s brain seems so thoughtful about the aesthetics. Adam is more an artistic engineer. Laura is more an engineering artist. Both wonderful
Honestly though if you watch Laura's channel she's all about the engineering too, and Adam does a lot of aesthetic-focused stuff with his prop work. I think it's more a function of them being in Adam's shop, and the engineering side relying really heavily on knowing exactly what you've got to work with.
This is one of the best colabs I've. I've subbed to Laura and seeing if there's many more of these on your channel. It takes things to another level than when covid attacked.
I absolutely love watching these videos. One of my favorite parts of these videos is watching along, and spewing out ideas as Adam and/or his guest does so as well. Feels like I'm playing along, even though they can't hear me. 🤣
I really loved watching this. The expressions at the end when it works so perfectly are superb. It shows a true joy. My 5year old boy has really got into building things so I introduced him to your videos. He loves them and is now sketching ideas for things he wants to build. Tonight is a miniature bath : )
Weel, there' L-space connecting all existing and potentially existing libraries in the multiverse... so it's not a stretch to imagine an M-space that connects Maker's shops together. ;) Sir Terry Pratchett would have approved. Cheers
I'm currently working on an M-Space Wormhole Generator at my local Maker Space, although it's no longer a secret! Please don't attempt to power-on the other side of the portal yet, the magnetic confinement of the matter-antimatter reactor is not quite finished and gamma ray bursts are very hazardous at close range. ;)
The joy of discovery is palpable in Adam's shop. I'm sad he can't live to be 200 years old just so he has more time to find new things and share his excitement.
+Jordan Truesdell Yeah I agree, it brings me such joy to see him work, educate, and interact with other very talented people! On a loosely related note to your post, it's ever so slightly possible (although improbable) that Adam, or someone born recently, will live to 150 or 200 years old. It would require truly unfathomable advances in medicine, biotech, and genetics in the near-to-mid-future, but I think it's technically possible to prolong human life significantly beyond today's average. There are quite a few organisms, some of them quite complex, that live hundreds of years, and scientists are studying their biology intensively. Realistically though, no one will live to see 200 years for quite a long time, but you never know what scientific breakthroughs are potentially around the corner. ;)
its so genuinly Awesome to see Adam so Genuinly Happy about a project what this project really shows is how much fun a what could be difficult project can be and especially with the payoff in the very end to see your Project/invention work as intended when you test it
It's difficult to collaborate with someone on such a small project, especially when there is no plan. Laura is pretty great about going with the flow because that can be very hard to do.
I agree, I felt like Laura is a "sit and stare at a problem until the solution appears" kind of person whereas Adam is more of a "Oooh! How about this idea!" kind of guy. It can be hard to communicate ideas and assign tasks unless you are lucky enough to just click with someone
¨Fantastic use of SIX hours! I couldn´t agree more. I love how Adam has trained himself NOT TO BLINK at the crucial moment! I checked the Slow-Mow camera!! Great stuff
Adam forces creativity in co-workers, this is exceptional, and he has a lot of experience. This is excellent to see, great content, so happy to see this :)
I love your videos, Adam, and have learnt so much. It always makes me smile when you refer to "metric or English". In the UK we've been using the metric system for many decades - especially in engineering - and the metric system has been our official measurement system since 1965. It's possibly time to start referring to the imperial system as 'American' as you, along with Liberia and Myanmar, are the only countries still using it. :))
Actually he's correct. The imperial measurements the US use were made to British standards. Before the metric system the rest of Europe had their own units of measure based on Roman Units.
I'm aware of the origins of the imperial system, not really relevant to my comment though. In England even the most self important people don't refer to it as "English". And several US imperial based measurements are not the same as those used in the UK anyway.
@@ffotograffydd Perhaps it's time for you, and others, to stop worrying about what measurement system others choose to utilize, and what they choose to call them. If you're not using cubits, you're wrong.
If you enjoyed this video, check out Laura's build of a better tape dispenser with Adam a year earlier! ruclips.net/video/dqmF2_h8icM/видео.html
My best friend and I and trying to build something similar to this but way more over engineered lol
It’s great seeing geeks flirt and make something at the same time :-)
You need to sell plans and parts list to make this. Please
@adam, please make a bottle oppener with air pressure. Would be awesome and beautifull!

Lol adam is Doug! ** squirrel **
2.21? Did you really watch 46 minutes? I got bored at around 7 minutes
Simone is a national treasure. "LETS GET HAMMERED." So matter-of-fact, so immediate. I love her shop omnipresence.
While I agree with you, this is Laura Kampf, not Simone...
32:24 Simone is there, in the background of the shop somewhere, she shouts out...
32:21 : )
Yep, a national treasure for Sweden, for sure! ;)
Shes Swedish tho, but she is a treasure for sure

Adam's idea-face and idea-antics are the best!
He always gets so excited too. It’s great
it's just faster for him to make it than explain it :P
Those are definitely good moments!
ruclips.net/video/l1YmS_VDvMY/видео.html
One of my favorite parts about these videos is they’re so long yet nothing feels unnecessary
Yup because he’s literally thinking about it while making it. We’re seeing every but of the process and enjoying the outcome!
What a cartoon. He literally goes off screen [grinding noises] comes back.
Adam is a walking cartoon character
19:33
@@yolostatus3613 😂
He can be in an open and empty field, walk off frame, *grinding noises*, then comes back in with a fully functional mechanism
I'd say hes a Jim Henson Muppet "Savage" the mad scientist 😂
I was thoroughly enjoying this video, then at 32:21 came the best off camera cameo that made this video and my day 1000x better.

Agree! Just put in on twitch, constantly streaming from the shop! Then you can log on when they are working on something xD
I would pay a premium to have this. It would be so incredible to see him working on something in real time!
I get weirdly excited about how organized Adam's tools and materials are. It's exceedingly satisfying to have someone ask you for something and you can tell them EXACTLY where it is.
Adam + Laura + One Day Build + over engineering = total awesomeness. And Simone's exceptional naming skills are the cherry on top :D

I think Simone was just surprised to see an invention actually work for the intended purpose. 😂
that ain't simone
See at ruclips.net/video/MxLOoriXkMc/видео.htmlm52s
So surprised that she forgot to take a zip.
So cool! I know practically nothing about engineering or woodworking or anything else you did so expertly, but boy did I enjoy watching you! 💜
44:10 You can see how wonderfully curious Adam is that he doesn't even blink so he doesn't miss the beautiful moment auf their invention working.
I absolutely love watching these videos. One of my favorite parts of these videos is watching along, and spewing out ideas as Adam and/or his guest does so as well. Feels like I'm playing along, even though they can't hear me. 🤣
Simone coming in clutch @ 32:21
I really loved watching this. The expressions at the end when it works so perfectly are superb. It shows a true joy.
My 5year old boy has really got into building things so I introduced him to your videos. He loves them and is now sketching ideas for things he wants to build. Tonight is a miniature bath : )
I am now convinced that there is a secret system of wormholes connecting all the maker spaces to each other...
Honestly i mean Simone suddenly coming out of nowhere... Is there like a bat signal for makers when something is being made?
Weel, there' L-space connecting all existing and potentially existing libraries in the multiverse... so it's not a stretch to imagine an M-space that connects Maker's shops together. ;)
Sir Terry Pratchett would have approved.
Realistically though, no one will live to see 200 years for quite a long time, but you never know what scientific breakthroughs are potentially around the corner. ;)
its so genuinly Awesome to see Adam so Genuinly Happy about a project what this project really shows is how much fun a what could be difficult project can be and especially with the payoff in the very end to see your Project/invention work as intended when you test it
18:00 no gloves when welding, what a mad man, or should i say savage.
That sounds like a real fast way to get some gnarly looking fingers
I see what you did there...well played
Arc burn x1000
It really not a big deal on small welds. I do it regularly and rarely every get burnt.
He hardly ever wears gloves ever. Prolly fine cuz he's a pro but still makes me nervous.
I want to be Adam Savage when I grow up.
Agreed. And I'm 28 ^-^'
Honestly, same
Actually, to become Adam Savage you should never grow up
the trick is, to become like the former don't do the latter. ;)
So does he, that’s the magic.
I think with Adam you just let him goof around until he asks you to do something ;)
The best part about this video is that you can see how genuinely happy he is to be doing it.
¨Fantastic use of SIX hours! I couldn´t agree more. I love how Adam has trained himself NOT TO BLINK at the crucial moment! I checked the Slow-Mow camera!! Great stuff
YES! Been waiting for this. More Laura!
Apart from the (very slight) accent, she could've his daughter. Charming, creative, careful. She even has the same hair color and glasses!
Helge Frisenette She's a fantastic human being. I've had the honor of hanging out with her a few times and consider her a friend.
it's so cool seeing these two working together
Working with Adam would be a treat. The way his mind and train of thought seems to work is amazing.
Should do a crazy one day build with Colinfurze next.
Never going to happen, I just can't see Adam wearing a safety tie....
Wor Jackie you never know.
Oh man, that would be amazing.
It'd be pretty awesome to see what they could come up with. I'd expect fireworks 😂
Or, Felix colgrave
I think 37:08 is one of the best moments in Tested. Adam's reaction to the first successful POP is priceless.
I can't wait for AvE's bottle opener!
LOL! It’s probs going to be the dyson big ball running over the bottle
Rafa del Blanco It acts as his better 3/4 telling him how many beers he's had :)
A stripped down chainsaw in a lathe
His will have to open at least 6-12 at a time though...
The bottle holder will be a pocket pussy, the actuator would be a 1940s hydrolic motor and hammer would be a chinesium especial haha
The childish glee and genuine joy every time something works is so infectious, love this video so much.
This is the absolute coolest bottle opener í have the seen. I want one.
2:41 "Wait.."
2:44 [fires up band saw]
2:53 "What I'm toying around..."
Only Adam can fabricate something mid-sentence, damn!
that was a satisfying forty-six minutes and twenty-one seconds. Loved every bit of it.
32:24, 41:51 I'm glad Simone got to join in and throw in her two cents.
Thanks for all the amazing stuff everybody!
Adam forces creativity in co-workers, this is exceptional, and he has a lot of experience. This is excellent to see, great content, so happy to see this :)
Carefully place bottle in holder.
Carefully place the thing under the cap.
Carefully lock the device.
HAMMER TIME!!
"POOOhhhhkk.........tink......tink....tinktinktink"
*the calm before the storm of: crackin' open a cold one with the bois*
LOVE that SIMONE was there.
Snapperlondon
Agreed. Not to mention American imperial differs from international imperial :P
@@ffotograffydd
Perhaps it's time for you, and others, to stop worrying about what measurement system others choose to utilize, and what they choose to call them.
If you're not using cubits, you're wrong.
Their sheer delight in this absurd thing makes for a most excellent rewatch or five!
A One Day Build that was finished in one day! Already proving your shirt wrong!
Busted?
Adam's shop is like disneyland
It's Disneyland for Engineers and the like
Adam is Disneyland
The Happiest Shop on Earth - Savageland
He'd probably need all the tools in there to get me back out of it!
@@corncob6681 mostly just nerds
this was fantastic to watch from beginning to end! The energy and passion you both share for this kind of thing are obvious from the get-go.
Still, when I watch this video, I love it. Adam’s brain on overdrive. He is so amazing to see in action.
