Well done documentary. I think it is abit difficult for our society to understand what life was like in the pre and post Civil War era. Hickok grew in a time where you either learned the art of survival quickly or you died early. He became skilled with weapons at an early age and one must believe he practiced as much as he could afford honing his skill. His skill, tananicity and the environment he lived in became the catalyst for the legend he became.
Well said my friend!
As a student and ardent historian of Reconstruction, I don’t find it difficult for society today to understand, I think it more an unwillingness more than anything.
As a historian and avid fan of the American West I want to say that you did an amazing job. Thank you.
Thanks! It was a deep subject and I feel like I just scratched the surface.
A fine presentation. You obviously did your homework. Utilizing the Tripple Shot Saloon and your own location for your recreation of scenes was well done. 👍I truely appreciate your dedication to the old west, and retelling of it's history. You are a genuine asset to us all.
Thanks for such a nice comment my friend!
As someone who finds James Butler Hickok the most fascinating figure of the old west I must say I really enjoyed your video. You stuck with the historical facts as we know them and yet for an extraordinary individual such as Wild Bill those alone are nothing short of remarkable.
Would love to see more videos from you like this about other legendary men and women of the old west.
Glad you enjoyed it! These historical videos are so much work but the end product can be really cool.
Do one on Bat Masterson.
A change from your normal, but your previous videos set the stage for sincere respect and being the perfect narrator for a documentary like this! I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing more!!! 🤠
Wow, thank you! I felt like I read too much, but there was so much information.
@@TUCOtheratt No, the details are what made it so good. Spending 1-2 min on stuff everyone knows would not be interesting and probably decrease interest/views esp on the first one like this. (Hopefully there will be more eventually!) Doing it in depth like this shows you are actually making something of value and that you aren't just rambling off common knowledge as click bait! I'm looking forward to more!!! A couple knowns to establish a pattern of quality, then maybe mix in some less know people that are interesting and more people should know about them… Just a thought. 🤷🏻♂️
@Firemedic2105 Those sound like good ideas. Thanks
You might want to look into Commodore Perry Owens for a less well known, but very interesting Arizona Lawman.
Man, this was awesome, always been a fan of hickok. I loved this, TUCO, you did a hell of a job bud, I'd love to see more of these. God bless from ole Carolina.
Thank you Sir!
@@TUCOtheratt absolutely bud 👍
Loved the documentary style video! I loved learning more about Hickok since he is my second favorite western legend. Keep up the great work!! Also, fun fact, I'm actually related to Hickok (5th cousin 6 times removed), Wyatt Earp and his family (5th cousin 3 times removed), and Doc Holiday (He's to far away to count).
Awesome! Thank you! That's interesting your family history!
Clearly put a ton of time into this video. Really enjoyed it!
Much appreciated!
i think HBOs dramatized version of Deadwood was really interesting showcase of the person i really enjoyed it and looked him up afterwards and was surprised most of it was real
Excellent Tuco, The one thing that will keep you alive in a real gunfight is reaction to the situation, because if you stop to think about what your doing, well you probably are going to get killed. It is better to be judged by 12,then carried by 6.
Well said.😃
Awesome stuff once again! I’ve said it for years that the Hollywood Western is fiction for the most part, but a few names come to mind when it came to walking that walk. Hickok is on that short list. And I’ve personally never heard of the “can kicking” story! News to me and gives me some ideas! Great documentary, Tuco!
Thanks, Andrew! It is interesting that Hickok's true story reads like L'Amour novel.
Thanks Tuco! Couldn’t ask for a better person to talk about such a legendary figure! He would appreciate the respect you obviously have for him! And I bet anything he would be rather impressed by your 6 gun skills! Awesome job with this! Thanks again brother! ✌️🇺🇸
Thanks for watching and the nice comment, my friend!😃
I was in Deadwood back in August 1997. Went to their grave site and the pub where he was killed.. really neat to hear the story!
I was just there a month ago I enjoyed it there
Thank you for showing all of wild Bill Hickok mysteries and great photos 🤠👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it.Thanks 😃
"The deadliest pistol slaya since Wild Bill they say."
"Look Darling.. its Johnny Ringo"
Ha! Ha!
I love history like this, thank you for taking the time to tel us something about this man
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
This was a great change of pace and it is awesome seeing you branch out in your creativity and capability.
Great presentation and great job. I've always been intrigued with the history of the American Wild West and the greatest equalizer ever invented. Men were men and you were judged by your action.
You are a man of many talents , always enjoy and look forward to your notifications .
I appreciate that! Thanks!
Really enjoyed this!
Awesome, thank you!
Great story line thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Apparently someone once told Wild Bill that he was so good a shot he could hit a crow in flight. Wild Bill responded "Was the crow armed? Was he shooting back? I will be. . ."
😃👍
Thank you for this story. Well, looking at what is presented in your channel sooner or later this had to come. And hope, not only I am glad you did it. You are great narrator and the way you make this documentary shows your talent and heart for wht you do. True stories are much more interesting than fiction. It is nice to learn about and from them. I appreciate your effort and engagemnt for what you do so we can spend this time with you.
Looking forward to watch next: TrippleShot Saloon episode :)
Thank you so much for the thoughtful comments. People like you keep me motivated!😃
Nice change of content for the channel, I like it. And it fits so well, who better on YT to talk about this than you?! I actually learned alot. Hope you'll consider making some more of these kinds of videos. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪 🤠
Hello! And thanks for the nice comments. It was a ton of work to do this video, but I like how it turned out.
Thank you for sharing the history of one of the legends
Glad you enjoyed it!😃
Awesome video Tuco. Well done history narration and love seeing you in this atmosphere doing something you are perfectly suited to talk about with the masses. History channel needs to hire you brother, that would be an awesome new show…can’t wait for the next episode
Thanks! I really felt out of my element but I'm glad I did it. I'm better at talking off the cuff than reciting history.
@@TUCOtheratt try making some bulletin points and do the rest off the cuff maybe? You did a damn good job already but maybe then it would make it more relaxed for you?
As always another awesome and informative Tuco adventure into the past. These are exactly the legends I was envisioning that you would do. Well done Tuco!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was very interesting. I appreciate how you didn't bog us down with spurious details.
I could be in the old west, from the comfort of my home.
Thanks!
Who's next to be documented?
Glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for the nice comment! Not sure who to do next.
I enjoyed your Wild Bill Hickok narration immensely. Well done. 👍
Thank you kindly! It was a lot of work but worth it.
Great Episode! Thank you for sharing this 😉
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for this. I’m enjoying a lot of your shooting videos, but this one was especially good.
Outstanding, as always. True tales from the old West, well told by someone who respects their history.
You're too young to have seen it in the original. You remind me of a 1950s childhood hero of mine, "The Old Ranger," of Death Valley Days.
Thanks for that nice comment my friend!
Very well done I enjoyed it quite a bit thank you for posting it.
Glad you enjoyed it😃
Great video, love learning more about the old west days
Well told and an amazing narration!
Thank you kindly!
Wild Bill and Billy the Kid are my 2 favorite old-west characters. Well done. Thank you.
Excellent video! I really enjoyed it. Hickok was the real deal. So, which gunslinger are you going to cover next?
What do you think of the accuracy of those 36 cal cap and ball revolvers?
My 44 cal cap and ball will shoot about a 3-4” circle at 10-15 yards. A 70 yard shot is truly incredible.
I've shot some that were very accurate as many black powder firearms are. I had trouble shooting my 51 navy for this video though. First time shooting that gun.
From what I recall, Hickok had given his deputy, Mike Williams, instructions to hold his position. Therefore, Hickok was not expecting his deputy when he heard footsteps approaching him from behind.
I'd like to see more of this content from you
Love the Story. Definitely looking Forward To Many More
Howdy!
For someone who has never held a gun, yet is an avid fan of Wild West podcasts like “Drift and Ramble”, I’m a fan!
I only wish I knew where to get a shirt and a pair of jeans like yours.
All the best!
The shirt is an Ariat brand and the jeans I got at Walmart 😃 Thanks for watching !
@@TUCOtheratt thank you!
Thank you for the historic lesson. Really enjoyed your pace and production. Glad I found your channel. Thanks again
Thanks for watching and the nice comment!😃
“Hickok Really was, That Guy.” 😂
Definitely a change of pace. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep udoing what your doing .
Thank you! Will do!
The thing about Hickok....he was absolutely fearless and could judge a situation calmly and quickly before drawing. Whether the 'fearless' part was ignorance or calculation, no one can be sure this far past.
Great job on the research and 1 person investigation vs the Movies that take way to liberty. Cheers for Colorado.
😃Thanks for the nice comments. I grew up in CO
Great vid and info
Thanks for watching and the nice comment!
Enjoyed, thx!
Nicely done!
Great video. Thank you.
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!
You did that well I will be looking for the next one
Great video!
Thanks! 😃This one was a lot of research.
I’ve always wondered about the relation of Hickok and Hardin in Abilene. Hickok did indeed allow Hardin to carry his revolvers within city limits, and according to Hardin, he pulled the road agents spin on him. Damn, what I would do with a Time Machine.
Loved loved loved this, thank you for the amazing history lesson. keep em coming pelase!!!!!
Thank you! Will do!😃
Excellent work , thanks for your excellent instruction 💯👍
You are welcome! Thanks for watching 😀
If you haven't already, I would love to hear you talk about Jim Bridger. Figure it fitting with Bridger's history with Montana.
His story is very interesting.
Wow!!! Very cool video sir!!!
Thank ya kindly
Thank you! Very interesting video Wild Bill was definitely an interesting man.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Glad to hear Charlie utter mentioned in this one
Would you be interested in covering either Fred J. Dodge or James B. Hume? These historical figures were lawmen/detectives during the Old West.
I haven't heard of them, I'll have to look them up.
Well played and a nice pivot from from shooting content. We all enjoy your videos and now we know you’re a narrator too. 👍
How do I send you a new video of my improved triple shot?
Thanks for the documentary. Wild Bill was a legend, and an idol.
Great video, thanks brother.
Thanks for watching!😃
Doc holiday is one of my favorites only because i grew and partook in outlaw activity.
Thanks for the History Lesson !
Great Story!
Great documentary.
Glad you think so!
Thank you brother, keep writing please love it
Love the saloon. I've been thinking of building a marshals office but finding accurate plans is difficult
I think you have to design your own. That's what I did.
Fantastic!
“The swiftness of the Ranger is still talked about today”
Thank you for keeping me entertained tuco you are awesome
Thanks for taking the time to do this
Well done
Thanks again for all the knowledge my name being though ever since I was a little kid I've always been fascinated with Buffalo Bill and Wild Bill so all the knowledge I keep Gathering all these years is just so cool thanks again keep the videos coming
Thanks for watching and the nice comment.
very well done! 👏 FYI alcohol was borderline poisonous due to the saloon owners of that era who mixed these formulas. alcohol poisoning was a large cause of blindness... Bill's eyesight in my research may have been due to his drinking of whiskey that was mixed by bootleggers, and that is a complimentary description of how they mixed their whiskey. some added things like turpentine and tobacco from the spittoon for coloring... also, don't forget that Wild Bill helped Kit Carson as a young boy and later trained him as a scout for the Army... great video and collection of old photos!! 🇺🇸
Interesting theory about the alcohol leading to eye problems. Never heard the Kit Carson story.
@@TUCOtheratt the alcohol was similar in many cases to 151% everclear which guys I knew in the military drank and ended up with alcohol poisoning and was told drinking it to fast or faster than the liver can process it can cause issues including blindness... I read books on explorers as a kid and Bill saved Kit as a kid from bullies and took him under his wing for a time... Both were legendary Americans... ⚖️🗽🇺🇸 Keep up the good work!!👍🏻👏💥
@@JDF1 Thanks. Do you mean Kit saved Hickok because Kit was much older. I read that Hickok saved Bill Cody from a bully.
@TUCOtheratt yes you are correct! ✌️
I really enjoyed that.
Thank you.
You're welcome!😃
Great stuff!! Keep it coming. Most of us have never heard these stories. It makes the myth is of the gunfighter more real in hearing about these real life stories.
Looks like a pretty good little gig you have going on there Mister. If you keep this stuff up you might get famous yourself.
I want to know how to go about either making or buying a real race gun. Are you making and selling them?
These videos could really kickstart a race gun gun smithing business. I think just the mention of such a service would keep you
More busy then you may want
Thanks for the nice comments. No, I don't do gunsmithing for other people. YT doesn't allow sharing information of where to get gunsmithing done either. So I'm afraid I can't help you.
Very interesting and well put together!
Thank for tuning in Winchester!🙂
This was very good, informative and truthful, thank you for living like a lot of us. Wish we could.
Thanks!
A lot of stuff from Hickok is in deadwood SD. Years ago in the 80s there was a very nice informal museum which is no longer there that had many genuine articles from native Americans and local people. The man that owned it talked to me extensively about how many artifacts were stolen by the then members of the city council. Amongst them were Hickoks guns. It would be nice if someone could investigate the area to find them. Go to Mariah cemetery to see his grave.
Very interesting, and very well done sir 👏 👍 🤠
I agree that they have been killing off our heroes. I have been amazed as you and others have brought them back to life through the actual newspaper articles, books, testimonials and photographs of the Old West.
Thank you Tuco. 👍👍🤠
Hickok never hesitated. Fully committed and now he is immortal.
The real deal ,thank you again
Tuco I recognise the picture in your video of the saloon. It’s from spirit of Western Cornwall, where I worked as a real actor.
Cool! Is there a western movie set there?
@@TUCOtheratt there used to be. It’s called spirit of the west in Cornwall UK. I’m on RUclips there is videos of it on there. I played Curly Bill and my handle was stuck with me ever since I was young used to put shows on for the public
Bill Hickok was a true badass.
Well said!
Good vidio. Whats the truth behind John Wesley Harden's claims since you're doing documentary shorts.
Gotta do Bat Masterson next
Ever notice how many famous gunfighters were shot in the back or ambushed. I have made the Dave Tut shot at 70 yrds with an Uberti 1851 Navy.
Yep. Hickok, Dallas Studenmier, Jesse James. The Tutt shot would be very hard to pull off!
@@TUCOtherattI find making the shot is much easier with the 1860 Army in 44cal than the 51 Navy in 36cal.
Very well done. Thank you.
Although it's not a race gun, still have my '51 Navy, which is the simplest and most accurate of em all.
People may say I'm crazy and stupid, but it is my EDC pistol. When they are appropriately amused, I ask them if they can hit a man in the noggin at 100 yards first shot, there's usually just a shy smile in reply...😮
This was awesome information Master Gunfighter Tuco, well spoken and delivered. Like Hickok himself! Bravo!
Thank you my friend!😃
I wasn't surprised by the movie with Jeff Bridges finding Hickok a visitor at opium dens. It was in fact a common occurrence when there were no laws against it.
But I'd there any proof of his use.
Bill Cody is my grandmothers 3rd cousin , she met him as a little girl at a family reunion in Mich. She used to relate how she sat on his lap as a little girl , my great grandmother , was Bills cousin , she was a cody ,Sarah Cody , married Simon Hanson of Coral Mich. My great grandparents , never meant Sarah , but I knew Simon , a very good man , really enjoyed going to his house on Mich. Hill in Grand Rapids , he would make molasses cake with lard frosting , his people were fron greenland , a province of Denmark , in order for inuits to come to America , they had to have permission from the Danish gov.I have pics. of my Great GrandFather as a boy , wedding picture , my Great Granmother was very beautiful , and as an old man. I need to mention that the Mulhollands of Coral Mi. Are related to us , Ken , and Charlie Mulhollands mother is a Cody! Ken always said , hos mom was a jewel , her name was Ruby , rest in peace Ken , signed Ken McDonald your cousin , it was good to know you? The Vody cemetary is located on Coral rd. My great great grand parents were Lawerence , and Glady Cody , they are buried there
You rule, Tuco
I watched on the TV show gunslingers that David Mccanles's son claimed David was also unarmed....just an FYI.
There's two sides or more to every shooting.
@TUCOtheratt That's the truth...just curious if you seen or heard that one before...
Syphilis could explain Hickok's eyesight problems.
I said it before and I'll say it again thanks for all the education I always thought bill was killed by an ex-lovers son as he played cards with his back to the door and he was holding Aces & Eights have you ever heard if the Aces & Eights the dead man's hand was true
It's hard to say if the hand is true or not. In the chaos in the immediate seconds following his murder, blood everywhere, a fleeing murderer, other people not knowing if the killing was done. It's hard to believe anyone noted the hand of cards before all cards were mixed on the table.
What’s your favorite single action revolver??
