honestly amazing tutorial, it's simple and sweet and straight to the point which is so so so nice for a beginner animator in general who is unfamiliar with the ui of opentoonz! thank u so much for posting this
This tutorial is actually amazing. I love how simple it is and despite the fact it doesn’t have anything really on in betweens, extremes etc. I think that it helped me just to understand Opentoonz. Thank you sm Sebastian !!
thank you for making this tutorial! I can't believe that opentoonz is free with some of those features. I remember when it first became open source, and it was downright hostile to use. great to see it's come a long way.
Can you do a video on how to draw like 80's/90's cartoons? And i don't mean like those rubberhose cartoons, I'm talking about like He Man, Lion-O, Voltron, M.A.S.K art style
@@anim8trdude are talking about on YT? Cuz i can't find any. It's only 80's anime (which is completely different) and yes there are ones related to cartoons, it's the wrong era and style
@@adamshafeeq8685 ok, maybe you should try another way. This is harder, but it’s better to understand how to draw it. You can look at pictures from those styles and try to simplify their body structure into different shapes. This helps a lot, but it takes time.
Thanks for the tutorials as always. These are very helpful as I try my hands with animations. One thing I hope to master is timing, I go for 8 frames a second with my animations, but sure there are more recommended frames
If you want smoother animations like the ones that they use in Simpsons, I recommend around 44 fps or 60. Be prepared for it to take around 4 hours though.
It never fails to amaze me how frequently people have to fight Windows to use basic multimedia tools. This is why I use Linux for all of my multimedia stuff; it just plain worked, and in over a year of using OpenToonz it hasn't crashed even once. Not once.
Thankyou so much! I was having so much trouble with layers & using more than 1 color on an animation because the color always stayed the same & I learned so much from this video!
Noblefrugal, i started animation recently, in the past i just tried rotoscopting myself some time and bouncing balls but never studied more, you saved me there are a lot of essential concept on your yt channel thank u very much
I started messing around with open source animation tools mostly for 2d. Opentoonz seems to be promising, can't wait to learn animation using this software!
Thank you for the rendering tip! I didn't know the eye hid it from the final render, and usually just delete the entire sketch layer before rendering the video XD.
Personally, I prefer the raster levels as they are less of a hassle to color and add FX with. Vectors can be tricky at times so to save myself the headache I tend to use raster levels. You are welcome and thanks for watching!
I hope in next version of Opentoonz, I will rotate and scale my drawings Non Destructively with Toons Raster layer (e.g. Photoshop's "Convert to Smart Object")
If I have a vector level with a few frames already listed, is it possible to move that level, reposition it in the scene, resize it, etc.? I mean, to the entire level, for example, if I want to move the animation of all the listed frames at once a bit more to the right or left, or change its size?
_Guys, how do you clear what you've drawn?_ I scribbled around on-screen when he did at 1:40, and I can't make it go away because I can't find a 'clear the screen' button. I found an 'eraser' button but the eraser is too small and I don't know how to expand it. Why is trying new drawing software always like this?
Can opentoonz make an html5 website? Looking for an alternative to adobe animate, which I currently use (trying to find something that runs on FreeBSD)
If I’ve drawn and rendered characters and backgrounds already would opentoonz allow me to import and animate them as is? Or would I have to redraw them?
When I go to render my project it crashes the program and corrupts my files, I've tried with multiple formats (including Avi and tiff) idk what to do at this point
Hello Sir, I need to ask something, please consider replying.. I have used blender for modelling buildings at a beginner level earlier. Lately I am starting a youtube channel with focus on infographics, motion graphics and simple 2D animation as the visual medium accompanied by voice over and simple sound effects. I don't want to spend a lot of time learning very advanced software to start making content. My focus will mainly be the subject material with a presentable video and audio if not a professional level graphics art. I have a old computer and so my GPU doesn't support blender and I don't want to get into 3d so Is it good idea to stick to some doodle like stuff with opentoonz and other simple tools like shortcut, audacity.. I ask this because there's not so much spoken about opentoonz on RUclips.. thanks a lot for your videos.
When I tried animating, all of the pictures ended up morphing to different sizes and moving when I only wanted them to go from picture to picture. Is there a way to change this?
nice cool video also i was wondering if there is a symbol library in opentoonz the closest thing i found was the lip sync but that has a limited amount drawings you can do i would really appreciate if you had any idea on what i could do thx
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I do want to ask though, is it possible to do colors and lineart on separate layers/levels? Like will the fill tool recognize the layers above it/below it as obstacles?
Hello, I have a quick question. When coloring in opentoonz I held the duration of a frame for a little bit, but during the duration the color of the cell seemed to change just a little bit from what I had previously it set to. Can anyone tell me why this happened? Or how to fix it?
I just got OpenToonz today, because I’ve been using Flipaclip (not the best choice) for a little while now. Sadly, I don’t yet have a drawing tablet, but I’m hoping I can get one some time this year!
im kind of scared to download it because i’ll scan everything I download to make sure that I don’t accidentally download a virus. but it turned out there had been a virus inside the app, so I researched it and it turns out its a trojan. So I go into ANOTHER scanner, and it also flags it as suspicious. I got kinda scared but i realized that i didn’t run it yet, so that made me relieved about it
Tahoma2D *is* OpenToonz (same code base) with an easier interface and some extra features. Any OpenToonz tutorial/feature works in Tahoma2D. The buttons just might be in a different spot.

Rubber hose is 1920s/1930s
I think you should look for tutorials online
@@anim8trdude are talking about on YT? Cuz i can't find any. It's only 80's anime (which is completely different) and yes there are ones related to cartoons, it's the wrong era and style
Idk, just try recreating that type of artstyle?

Great to see more OpenToonz content!!
You are the absolute master of animation. Such an easy tutorial, told so organically. Love you man, you made my day.
i love you dude, thank you so much for helping me out with the basics!

Such an underrated animator
Thank you for this. So helpful getting started dealing with the OpenToonz interface.
I've just got OpenToonz, and your channel has been a big help!
Thank you so much for teaching me how to animate using this app, now I can process my animation

in the details. when you get stuck, roll back to the beginning and start over. The other weay is to focus entirely on one set of commands
I started messing around with open source animation tools mostly for 2d. Opentoonz seems to be promising, can't wait to learn animation using this software!
I heard this software has AI tweening, is it true? i.e. can create 'in between' frames for the walk cycle
What did you do at 8:38 to make the green line at final jump from 1 to 6? I didn't see you do anything other than erase and could not replicate that.
Thank you for the rendering tip! I didn't know the eye hid it from the final render, and usually just delete the entire sketch layer before rendering the video XD.
With the final linework, ... Is a raster level better to use than the vector method? Thank you for these tutorials btw

@@NobleFrugal Thank you! You are awesome

Omg, it’s so great, thank you so much 😭

When I go to render my project it crashes the program and corrupts my files, I've tried with multiple formats (including Avi and tiff) idk what to do at this point
Can you add audio files and animate over too?
