One of my favorite scenes is when John lets Francis go, because there is actually subtext to the scene. When John asks Francis about how much weight he lost, Francis responds that he lost 60 pounds according to the subtitles. What Francis said in Russian though was that he had lost 27 kgs, which is roughly 60 pounds. What is actually happening is John is asking Francis how many guards there are inside the club, and Francis tells him 27. So, it isn't just that John let him go because they know each other, John let him go, because Franics gave him information.
Kevin Nash, the actor that played Franics confirmed this in an interview.

Another one is when Viggo served Iosef a shot of vodka. Viggo served him the cheap bottom shelf low grade vodka and even though Viggo poured one for himself, he never drank it. He put it back on the bar and punched Iosef in the gut. He then went behind the bar and poured himself the high end top shelf premium vodka in a lead crystal glass and drank it. I never left her bedside the final week and held her hand for nearly 8 hours till she drew her last breath. It was one of the loneliest feelings waking up the next day. It's been a while now and the loneliest feeling is there but muted to just alone. I have survived and now at 67. She was the first girl I only ever dated or kissed. I still often rub the bed where the small of her back was which I did almost every night till she was asleep, or me. On a plus note........ I wound up with her 2 beagles.

All the hand-to-hand fighting was legit, in terms of being real and effective. Maybe some liberties here or there but it's a primer on how to break skulls and arms. You probably noticed how Wick kept his pistol tucked in close to his body, a technique called Center Axis Relock. It allows you to switch from medium distance shooting and close quarters combat quickly.
If you're ever curious about what guns are used in a movie, look no further than the Internet Movie Firearms Database (IMFDB). For instance, Wick's primary pistol is a Heckler & Koch P30L. Also, the "rifle" he used to shoot up Vigo's SUV is a Kel-Tec KSG, or Kel-Tec Shotgun. It's a pump-action, single barrel, dual magazine tube 12 gauge. Most shotguns hold 5-7 shells. The KSG can hold anywhere from 10-24 shells! I've held the full length KSG and it is a monster and almost comical in size. I loved it. Sadly didn't get to fire it.

    • @kendallshimabukuro6250
      @kendallshimabukuro6250 2 года назад

KSG is fun... I'm looking for one to purchase. The gun range I go to has one for rent. It's heavy when fully loaded at 14+1. Takes a toll on your shooting shoulder when fully loaded but it's a rush to shoot it even though you might be a little sore the next day. It's not hard to lose track of how many pumps you did while shooting if you're used to shooting my 4+1... 😅

By the way KR learned how to shoot and handle the gun for real by doing 3 gun. This is really hard because you have to master handgun, rifle and shotgun. My husband use to compete in handgun and some rifle but to do 3 gun takes time and lots of pratice. My son and hubby laugh at me because I love to shoot handgun and rifle but I hate shotgun. I've had some rifles that have strong recoil but the shotgun kicks my butt. I like to shoot from the bench on rifle so nothing like competition. I hurt my left hand so I can only shoot about 300 rounds then I use the bench. You have to respect anyone that can shoot 3 gun. You should check out the youngest 3 gun womens champion, she is around 13 in the video I saw. She might be the young adult instead of ladies either way she is a great shooter. I just can't remember her name, my bad I suffer from CRS.

We (as Americans) get into this as a movie, but actually being in something like this would be quite upsetting. I find it very interesting that a Brit can also get into it as a movie and not be extremely upset due to the fact that you don't have as many guns and not as many people actually learn gun safety and how to shoot. 😁

I remember in interviews, they film makers said they chose to kill off the dog (the real one is just fine and still adorable) because it would trigger the audience into giving John (and the movie) free reign to do what ever he (they) felt necessary for revenge. They're basically saying that no one hurts doggos and gets away with it.
    Edit:
The main reason (in my mind) that this movie's action scenes feel so real is because the director rand lead film makers are all stunt performers. If I recall, the director has even doubled Keanu in the past, which is how they met.

In the first 5 minutes when John turns and nods for the doctor to go ahead and unplug his wife's life support, that's a tell. Wick is an assassin. Not that he was assassinating his wife, but he's completely at home with the dichotomy of life and death. He mourns the impending, and subsequent, loss of his first/only wife, but when it's time for someone to die...it's time. Cruel, but entirely within his ethos.
    But someone will pay.

This is why stuntmen should get more recognition. They just "get it" regarding what makes a good shot or sequence. It was written and directed by two sunt-doubles, one of which was Keanu's main go to earlier in his career.
Not that he really needs them anymore, almost everything was Reeves in John Wick. The gunplay, the hand to hand, even most of the driving. He has turned into a legit badass but remains the nicest, most chill dude around. I honestly don't know if the universe could contain the amount of "pure good vibes" if Keanu Reeves and Dave Ghrol were in the same room at the same time.

John got out of "the business" a little over 5 years ago, if Iosef was around 12-13 years old at the time (assuming he was 18 in this movie). Then there's a good chance that Viggo never told his son about John Wick. Atlantic City may have been Iosef's first "mission", to prove he was an asset to his father.
With John out of "The Business", it's possible that people don't bring him up in 'casual' conversation outside of places like The Continental.
For anyone who hasn't seen it, check out on RUclips "John Wick Directors React to The Honest Trailer" (watch Wick 1 & 2 first to avoid spoilers) lots of behind the scenes info

John was born Jardani Jovanovich (Russian: Джордани Йованович, Belarusian: Ярдані Іовоновіч) in Padhorje, Byelorussian SSR, Soviet Union on September 12, 1964. He was orphaned at a young age before being taken in by an old friend of his father, who would eventually become John's mentor. At one point, he was recruited by a Ruska Roma organized crime group and trained by its leader, a woman known as "the Director", in New York City. Under the Director's supervision, John was trained as a hitman and learned skills including martial arts, firearms and other weaponry, tactical driving, infiltration, escapology and more. After leaving the Ruska Roma organization, he was arrested for an unspecified crime and incarcerated. Upon release, he was manipulated into joining the underground crime world operating out of the Continental Hotel chain. John eventually became the top enforcer for the New York Russian crime syndicate, becoming a feared and ruthless hitman that people describe as "a man of focus, commitment, and sheer will". He was later nicknamed "Baba Yaga", being further described as the man one would send to "kill the Bogeyman". Peace out "mir"

John was retired so I never felt like he had the cops on a payroll. They just knew who he was, had to go make an appearance because there had been calls, and then happily left before getting involved in something way, way beyond their government pay. Lol! It's not like he usually caused trouble. Even if he had, they'd have to bring in the FBI or CIA and I feel like he's even above that.

"He never worked with great actors like Brad Pitt or Leo DiCaprio" Dude, you really shoud check his filmography
Point Break - with Patrick Swayze
The Devils Advocate - with Al Pacino, Charlize Theron
The Replacement - with Gene Hackman
    Speed - with Dennis Hopper
Dangerous Liaisons - John Malkovich, Michelle Pfeiffer, Glenn Close, Uma Thurman
