New to the game.. like it very much. Like the video; I think your voice is agreeable for presentations. Question: isn't the automation's weakness to magic a meaningful downside? At least as a new player, magic is the scariest thing to encounter for me...
It is true that magic is pretty spooky for new players. However, the stage at which this weakness is the most brutal (the early game) magic is pretty rare to encounter. The Swamp levels can be a little challenging for automatons, with fire staff goblins and a lot of water, but by then you have some levels under your belt, and you should have some decent options to survive. The biggest challenge, then, is the Gnomish Mines, but as a new player its best to skip that floor until you have some experience. Several items can help with this weakness as well. Magic Reflect amulets/capes, or magic resistance rings will both more than mitigate the weakness. In addition, the easiest artifact armor piece in the game is the gloves, which give you a big boost to your magic resistance too! So, yes magic can be scary at first, but once you've got some experience, it's a lot easier to deal with, and the rarity of magic-using enemies means you sometimes don't even see magic for the first 10 floors, unless you seek it out. - Zach
This is 5 months old, so maybe you corrected the issue, but! Ive got you on the kitchen speaker while doing dishes with max volume on the speaker and the phone; i was just watching a pancreasnowork video before yours and i had to turn the volume way up. Super hard to hear you. Other than that, great video.
Unfortunately, no. Even when you are a shaman, shape shifting into an Imp won't let you learn more spells when your "base race" is a goblin. This is interesting because the vampire weakness to water can be ignored when you use a shaman beast form, but there is, as far as I know, NO way to learn spells from spellbooks as a gobo. You can test this easily by jumping in a game as a goblin wizard/healer/sextant/etc and using one of your polymorph potions on floor 0. (that's how I double checked this) It's honestly a little sad, but goblins are still a pretty great melee species imo. Also, to be fair, you can still level your magic and casting skills via staves and spellbooks, and you'll be GIVEN the spells Forcebolt and Dominate for free, which are both very powerful. But you'll always be lacking a bit in variety, for sure. - Zach
Good breakdown
Occasionally there are good takes on this channel. 😂

Can't you Polymorph a gobo then learn all your spells in one bunch?
