  • This one of many brake videos I will be doing on this truck. I did not replace the wheel cylinders for a reason. I will be making another video on replacing them.

I am redoing my 1980 F-150 brakes so that is why I came to this site. I managed to find my old brake relining installation tool which is shaped like a long pair of pliers. It takes those hooked springs right off with one handle and installs them with the other. They don't slip or pinch you. It's good that he used the primitive vice grips and pliers though because most people will only have those. I think I would've waited until the turd with the lawnmower quit mowing but it was tolerable and picture was nice and clear. Very good!

Doing this on my 95 today, with new wheel cylinders and all. Come to find out my drums were in horrible shape, So I ordered a set to finish the job out, I don't know what the old girl will think about having back brakes and a working ebrake... Thanks for the walkthrough :)

I purposely didn't do the wheel cylinder for purposes of making another video. It's a multi-video series.

Tool tips, That tool you got for springs not needed, but you have it now so we wont go into that, Use a flat blade screwdriver to put the springs back on, hook spring on shaft of screwdriver, place the blade on the shaft where the spring goes left screwdriver springs slides into place ;-) easypesy

Hey thanks for the vid. On my 78 f150 the rear cylinders were both shot. They would still work but couldn't bleed either side and both the plugs to bleed em were clogged with rust. About to go put it all back together and needed refresher on what goes where. :D

Adjust your star wheel all the way out it will make the top two springs easier to put on.

As soon as the video started and I saw you weren't doing the wheel cyl I knew you'd be taking it all apart again. It will go fast now that you done it once already.

Are your rear brakes the 10 or 11 inch ones?

My brakes are 12x2 or 2.5, I forgot. I've inspected them before then helped my dad do the wheel cylinders on his Mazda pickup and thought I was looking at a midget car or something lol.

How'd the duralast shoes and hardware holdout?

1 side at a time. The person who did the brakes last, put the identical shoes on the same side. The shoe with the big pad always goes on the rear of the drum. Brings back memories. Don't do brakes this way. Frickin dangerous.
