I’ve repaired and replaced numerous things on my 96 bronco based on your videos. Never seems to go as smoothly as you show on here, but that’s a “me” issue ha. Thank you for all these bronco videos, a real lifesaver.
Need to get this done on my 95 F-150. Pretty mechanically inclined but drum brakes always intimidated me. Thank you much for the very detailed information. Life saver!
You are correct on the washer it called a spring washer and it does go on your parking brake bracket but you need to put some caliper grease on the 3 contact point of the brake shoes
I had watched other videos and had wasted a lot of time before I found yours. This was a real blessing and greatly appreciated. Accurate, concise, and without any annoying music. You gained a sub.
Great video. You explained everything very well. The only thing I would add is to wire brush and lubricate the six contact points that the two shoes ride on. Don't use a lot of brake grease. Just a light coating.
I don’t normally comment on videos. But I had to echo some of the comments I’ve seen here. Your video was extremely helpful. Very specific and concise. I completely rebuilt the rear brakes on my 95 F150 and I don’t think we would have been able to complete it without this video. Thank you!!
Thank you so much for this video. I just completely rebuilt the left side on my Bronco last night. Right side is next. Fantastic video and instruction for someone who’s never done this before!
Mr Fixer, sooo I’ve got a 93 Bronco and I want to clean, prime, and protect the underneath of it. I think that would be a great video. Can it actually be done without lifting the truck? I live in VA and it surely could use it. Awesome vids though man. Keep up the interesting work. It’s great‼️
Yes it can, these trucks have plenty of space underneath. You can also purchase a set of drive up ramps to gain a bit more clearance. Be sure to lock the wheels.
The fact that all you had to do to remove the drum was to just simply pull it off pissed me off lol. My drums were rusted on so bad It took me a mapp gas torch, a 10 pound sludge hammer and a case of beer to get them both off lol
Great video, thanks for the clear instructions. As a side note, what are the names of those wheels? I know they are a factory wheel, but I can’t seem to find them anywhere because I don’t know what they are called. I want to put a set on my 95.
That is the easies I have ever seen someone put that clip on the brake pressure bar. I mean it usually takes ppl I know an hour at a time.. The thing wants to bend bind up and slither away anything but slide on that pivot..
They should be two separate cables, a front cable and the rear (split) cable. Your local auto parts store should be able to order them or rockauto.com online.
Soooooo, I don't see where else you'd use that compression washer besides how you used it on the parking brake arm under the "U" clip, but wanted to ask if you thought of a different use before I rebuild my rear end on a my 1989 F150!?!?
Yes, I can film that. To remove the rotors on a 4x4 you will need a special socket. Different year trucks require different sockets as some had manual locks, some auto locks with 3 bolts, some with 5 bolts. I can go through all that in the video.
If a person accidentally lost (in trash....) the wheel cylinder links, where to get them? Common auto part stores have choices of brake drum hardware kits, but no wheel cylinder links..even separately. Why so hard to find?
@@TheFixTech puzzling. Went to look at those pn at the Napa Auto store and those two part numbers are a larger diameter...think they are spec'd for a larger wheel cylinder. Gues they would work but still looking for correct diameter.
Hi! Guys i am a first generation explorer fan but i just have a headache with rhe diameter of rhe drums... I went to the dealer and they told me that they no longer had information about those measurements. I wanted to buy the drums but they asked me for 9 inches, 10 or 11 and I was over the moon. Does anyone know how to find that information? thank you so much!
Yes, not sure if it makes a difference, but that is how it shows in the manual. The bigger shoe (has more brake pad) goes on the rear of the drum (facing the rear bumper) then smaller shoe faces the front bumper. They can be switched and placed in opposite positions but I’ve always done it the way the manual specifies
@@TheFixTech well i just do this because it has something to do with weight distribution and velocity of rear braking, obviously when the brakes is applied weight goes to the front of the vehicle and the bigger shoes with more materials grabs the rear of the drums for better braking of the rear
Tried step-by-step ........ this technique didn't work for me at all. When I got to the adjuster cable it was 1 1/2 inches short and couldn't make it reach. Went to another vid and it all went together.

Nice work!
Just used this to do my own brakes. Best tutorials on RUclips!
Glad it helped!

Thanks for the straightforward video. With no annoying music too! A rare find
I’ve watched so many videos on drum brakes and this is the best one by far couldn’t have made that any more clear

Its been 30 years since I did my own drum brakes. This was a great review tutorial. Well done.

Best tutorial on RUclips for Ford drum brakes. Well done!
I have never seen a brake drum install video and good as this, Thanks,,
At 9.99k subs I had to sub just to try to push you over that 10k mark. Good luck. Good video.
Thanks for the sub! I really appreciate it.
Thanks. Good, straight forward video.
Also, excellent focus!!
Great video; thank you.
I'm about to start work on an 84' and you're hitting all the same problem areas I have so much thanks brother!
Cool, let me know if you need any advice, I’ve done lots of research and work (most off camera) on this truck.
Your videos are awesome, no BS - just get to work and show ALL the steps. Thank You
10:00 Nice editing.
Thank you.
New subscriber here. Recently purchased a 90 f150 so these vidos will help out a ton
Nice truck, these are fun restoring.
Good clear instructions, thanks

The springs are always a fight.
Very nice video! You're my new chris fix XD
Wow, thanks!
if ive learned anything from vice grip garage is, all you need is a pair of vice grips to do drum brakes, can confirm its all you need
Damn good video. Saved for reference. I’ll be doing this soon on my 1991.
Great Video
Thanks!
Great video, Thanks
Glad you liked it!
You do good work, dude

Same! So angry watching Chris just slide his off!! :)
Buena 👍explicado 👍
Nice
Longer pad on the shoe goes towards the rear
Great video! Are those wheels stock?
Yes, they are the Alcoa 15 in aluminum rim
Great video, thanks for the clear instructions. As a side note, what are the names of those wheels? I know they are a factory wheel, but I can’t seem to find them anywhere because I don’t know what they are called. I want to put a set on my 95.
These are Alcoa Wheels, 87-93 had the rivet style, 94-95 similar wheel, no rivets.
That is the easies I have ever seen someone put that clip on the brake pressure bar. I mean it usually takes ppl I know an hour at a time.. The thing wants to bend bind up and slither away anything but slide on that pivot..
Where can I find the parking brake cables from pedal to rear ? 1988 f150 long bed.
They should be two separate cables, a front cable and the rear (split) cable. Your local auto parts store should be able to order them or rockauto.com online.
Any clues on where to find the brake bust shields for the front brakes?
Have you tried rock auto?
@@TheFixTech Yes sir. Parts are “unavailable”.
Drum brakes are very similar across all cars. You can use this video as a guide to help you rebuild yours.
That’s good to know, also great job explaining everything.

Yes, it does go onto the parking brake lever.

Why did you not demonstrate re-attaching the parking brake cable?

Napa may be your best option locally, part number H1421-2 or dorman hw1422. Amazon/eBay will have them.

Remove the wheel, it should be written on the drum, if all else fails, measure the drum
Where can I get the parking brake arm…I threw mine out on the passenger side.
What size rims are those
I believe they are 15x10
What size tires are these man?
31 x 10.5 x 15 or 265 x 75 x 15
Eso es interesante
Big shoe goes in the back
Good catch, that is correct.
Does anyone arc the shoes anymore?
You don't show how you put the parking cable back onto the bracket that you attach with the washer and the horseshoe shaped clip.
7:52
wait, the shoes with more materials is for the back while the ones with less goes in the front
Yes, not sure if it makes a difference, but that is how it shows in the manual. Ummmm those drum brakes looked exactly the same (ones that came off) they are supposed to be different, someone dint do it right before
Throw all that stuff away and put some real brakes on there
