@Anna Gonzales, that's because they don't have the compulsory "School Figures" that were a big part of competition scores! I remember several skaters complaint about them, especially those figure 8's that had to be traced over each other! 😉🤗👵🇺🇸
@@vickireynolds4055 if I remember correctly, Peggy Fleming won the gold because the school figures were untouchable. I'm not saying she wasn't talented, she was, but no one could catch her.
Sharon here: I believe Scott to be one of, if not THE best entertainer to ever lace up skates, ever. Brilliant. This, and The Golfer are two of my favorite routines. He brings a full sense of joy ~
My mother believed he is the greatest skater of all time. She cried when he won gold. Watching him brings back great memories of my mom and I watching the Olympics together!. Thank you!
He is a legend! I think today's ice skating has become so technical. Everything is about the quad jump! It's so refreshing to see programs like this one where the skater can have fun and also perform tricks at the same time.
His skating looks so effortless that a person might not even recognize his technical excellence - all his jumps, spins and amazing footwork let him have fun, and entertain us!
Even now I still enjoy Scott’s playful approach while still being technically perfect 👍🏻. One of the greatest entertainers of all time! Can’t help but smile while watching, he always brings out the little kid in me 🥰( and I’m 65😆) Thanks for all the smiles😊
The consummate performer! He has more artistry in his little finger than most figure skaters today. Artistry is what makes figure skating enjoyable to the masses.
I absolutely love watching these older skating programs. I don't really know the new skaters at all. Gran and I used to watch these and laughed so hard at his antics on the ice.
Agree. Haven't watched in a very long time. Not much by way of personality in today's performances. Browning,Wylie,Bolzano had talent but just brought something extra. Scott is a legend by himself. Saw him years ago,my only disappointment was the seat wasn't closer. Phenomenal skater, wonderful compassionate person
With all due respect to Messers Button, Boitano, Orser, Gallindo, Petrenko, Browning, Stojko, Lysachek, Candelorio, Eldredge and any other man to ever lace up a pair of figure skates, Scott Hamilton is the best ever. To do a program this elegant and technical - and just plain FUN. - at his age is just amazing. The technical brilliance of his footwork makes my head spin! Simply magnificent!
He makes it look so easy!! He's always delightful because of his amazing foot work skills and elegance but he is also entertaining, and in this case, funny as hell :D
This is not competition skating. This is Stars on Ice and meant to be fun. His competition skating is closer to the people mentioned. Competition skating is so much different that gala skating!
Aaah, Scotty. There will never be another. I watched him years ago and thanks to RUclips I’m blessed to watch him again and again. Never doubted the backflip was coming but he sure teased us. 😜 He is simply the best. Nathan Chen may have quads and grace, etc, and is a true champion too, but nobody’s Scotty.
I saw Scott in person at Sky Rink in New York City the first time I saw him many years ago . His performance was just perfect. I was amazed at his speed on the ice and those jumps. He worked very hard to make ice skating look so graceful. He is a great skater, a great person and now a great fighter with the cancers that he has been winning. He amazes us all. I wish him the best and may God bless him with good health and strength against these terrible illnesses which take so many lives. He is a true champ who shows no fear. God bless him.
They should make skaters of today watch hours and hours of Scott Hamilton's performances. And then tell them to go out and do one of them. I dare say none of them could. The coaches should do this make them watch and copy Scott hamilton. Not that they do his performances all the time but if they would learn them and then make up their own using a lot of his techniques, wow can you imagine we'd be getting gold medals all the time at all of the different competitions. I know you can't do that anymore scott, but we sure miss you.
Wonderful and effortless! So much fun to watch, and the way he engages with the spectators...Scott Hamilton is in a class by himself; the person I miss the most on the ice!!
Scott is my very favorite skater. He brings such joy and laughter to every single performance, along with an amazing amount of talent and artistry. I have to say, he kind of reminds me of Tim Conway with the facial expressions on this one. lol
None better at skating AND entertaining at the same time! I miss the loss of the showmanship to the more technical only aspect! All the guys in this group were technically brilliant and true performers! We don't have that anymore! It's all technique and those quads! I miss these guys! 👏👏👏😉😂😂👵🇺🇸
Uh sorry to tell you but there was no mocking in this performance. The humor of his program is in perfect keeping with the humor of the aria from the opera. It's a very funny tongue in cheek opera. That's exactly what Hamilton delivered.
My son & I were lucky to meet him at Sea World in the late 80s. I have a darling picture of them . So kind. So amazingly skillfull but I can think of no other skater who showed more joy or love for what he did. He is so loved!
I don't see this as Scott mocking opera or this particular piece. The skating program is in perfect accord with the spirit of the aria, which has, of course, a fundamental spirit of humor. This is quite wonderful, and so impressive that he was skating it in 2003.
I’ve watched your competitions! I’ve been in AWW since I saw you do that fabulous skating jump! Wow what a skater what a man what an inspiration you are the greatest! Thank you Scott thank you for many years of entertainment and watching you with your brilliant skating!!!!!!!!!💗
the back flip is like his trade mark, i remember watching him as a young kid an loved how he skated an made his performances funny and love how he did the back flip on the ice.
Oh, you have missed out. I am an old fart and I watched him win his Olympic gold medal in 1984. He has always been such an amazing person. True showmanship, talent and just a lovely human being.
This song has such attitude to it that it's surprising it's not used more often by skaters, but I doubt we would see this good of an interpretation from today's quad masters.
There will be never again another Scott Hamilton. The man is flawless and entertaining. His Foot work is the best. HE is my all time favorite skater.
His footwork and artistic interpretation still has higher degrees than athletes today.
@Anna Gonzales, that's because they don't have the compulsory "School Figures" that were a big part of competition scores! I remember several skaters complaint about them, especially those figure 8's that had to be traced over each other! 😉🤗👵🇺🇸

@Historical Book I Agree.
Sharon here: I believe Scott to be one of, if not THE best entertainer to ever lace up skates, ever. Brilliant. This, and The Golfer are two of my favorite routines. He brings a full sense of joy ~
No one like him. He tells the story with the music and dancing. A lost art.
My mother believed he is the greatest skater of all time. She cried when he won gold. Watching him brings back great memories of my mom and I watching the Olympics together!. Thank you!
Choreography that actually aligns with the music ! So different from the mindless "Quad" jumpers of today.
Because this is not a competition he is free to skate as he wants
Agreed! Olympic level skating seems to be jumps and setting up for jumps. Not pretty nor enjoyable to watch.
I agree with you 100%
He puts his whole heart into performances. He is dorky in a funny way, but he also showcases his athleticism.
I think he is the origin story for the term “adorkable”!
I don't think he is dorky in any way shape or form. His athleticism plus is smile and pure joy makes him increibly attractive.
How I miss that time!! He was excellent, perfect and a delight to watch!! 👍🤗💕
Even now I still enjoy Scott’s playful approach while still being technically perfect 👍🏻. One of the greatest entertainers of all time! Can’t help but smile while watching, he always brings out the little kid in me 🥰( and I’m 65😆) Thanks for all the smiles😊
The best part is that he’s having fun, and it shows. God bless and keep him ?
Greatest performer on ice ever. And one of the greatest performers of anything ever. And such an inspiring person. I feel lucky to watch him
THAT is an example of the PERFECT PAIRING of an artist and the music! Bravo!
Superb there will never be another like him. Amazing and fascinating to watch.😊 ❤
No one like Scott Hamilton!!! Exceptional skater!!!!
For me, there has never been a skater with the skill and artistic ability of Scott Hamilton!
The consummate performer! He has more artistry in his little finger than most figure skaters today. Artistry is what makes figure skating enjoyable to the masses.
One of the BEST male figure skaters to ever touch the ice, what a showman :)
How are you doing today my name is Bryan
Yes he was...and probably still is
And an amazing person.....has two sons and they adopted siblings from Haiti a few years ago. Finally got a daughter!
45 years old. He was 45 at that performance, and he could STILL do a backflip. Fuckin' amazing.
Yes, he does!:)) 👏🏻
He makes me cry with joy! What a pure skater and entertainer! And a delighful human being.
I absolutely love watching these older skating programs. I don't really know the new skaters at all. Gran and I used to watch these and laughed so hard at his antics on the ice.

The strength and smoothness of his landings is amazing.
He is truly a national treasure...
My all time favorite male skater
I got to see him do this live. Best footwork ever.
He is so cute. So much personality. Love Scott.
All ways loved watching me some Scott Hamilton
Loved it then! Love it now! It always puts a smile on my face! Scott is and was awesome!

love watching him and Kurt do footwork, they are fabulous
He makes it look so easy!! He's always delightful because of his amazing foot work skills and elegance but he is also entertaining, and in this case, funny as hell :D
Yes - he is 45 years old doing this performance. True longevity and a true entertainer.

When Scott Hamilton performs he enjoys it as much as the audience.
I hope he knows how loved he is even now.

Such a showman. I can relax and watch. Today's ice skating is to nerve racking.
Scott Hamilton is perfection on ice. Watching him, you're watching the very best! 💖
Scott, your love of Ice Skating and Entertaining - Made Ice Skating for my Generating one of the GREATEST TIMES OF OUR LIVES!

Unbelieveable! His natural talent was amazing! Way to go Scott!!!
Scott is the best!

I remember seeing this live. The audience was (metaphorically) rolling in the aisles.
Love, love, love it. That is perfection!
Worlds greatest skater!!!❤❤❤❤
The thing I love about him is he clearly doesn't take himself too seriously. It's almost like he's making fun of figure skating in a friendly way.
Skater extraordinaire, artist, and entertainer. G O A T.
Loved his skating. Cancer survivor!
My son & I were lucky to meet him at Sea World in the late 80s. I have a darling picture of them . So kind. So amazingly skillfull but I can think of no other skater who showed more joy or love for what he did. He is so loved!
I met him there too back then!! he was and always shall be a true treasure of a human being.
Definitely one of the most fun skaters to watch! And he always looks like he's having so much fun out there.
I've always loved Scott. I've never heard of anyone who didn 't like him. Such a talented skater, too. Just an honest talent, with no theatrics!
He owned that act .
The man, the myth, the legend.
He’s so amazing! He just floats across the ice. His footwork is mind blowing. He has one speed…fast. A real treat to watch.
I love Scott, he always makes his routines so much fun.
Mr. Scott Hamilton is an awesome performer. Such a great talent.

Love the fast footwork! He's one of a kind 👍
What! WHAT? Bravo!
Scott is the GOAT
I'm speechless!
He still had the energy& strength to do a back flip at the end of all that???
I adore watching this man. He is the king of ice.
Every night another masterpiece is posted, reminding me of what a fantastic skater/performer Scott Hamilton is. Simply The. Best. Bravo!
I believe Scott skated for us, not himself. That is why we continue to love him.
I think he skated for himself as much is for us, because he loved it and it showed!
I don't see this as Scott mocking opera or this particular piece. The skating program is in perfect accord with the spirit of the aria, which has, of course, a fundamental spirit of humor. This is quite wonderful, and so impressive that he was skating it in 2003.

Music interpretation is brilliant
Lol. Intro comments. The Marriage of Figuro is a comic opera.
Hysterically funny and incredible skating! I love this!
His back flips are my favorite!

I have only just discovered this amazing skater thanks to you tube, and he is so talented

I think it's not done because seriously, who could outdo this?
He is amazing
The greatest skater of all time!!
I'm so thankful that I got to see him, Kurt Browning, Kristi Yamaguchi and others at a Stars on Ice performance. It was SPECTACULAR!!
I always love watching this guy skate. He is such a ham, in a delightful way, and Figaro's aria is perfect for such theatrics. 😁😁😁
I love him 😁😘😁😁⭐️⭐️⭐️♥️⭐️⭐️⭐️♥️⭐️♥️♥️♥️♥️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!!!!!
