  • I share new techniques and how they've led me to a better painter in this video. Sometimes all it takes is a change in perspective to learn and improve as an artist. I also take you through my newest oil on canvas #painting which features a pintail drake.
It's so great to get back to painting some #wildlife again. As I get out to gather more reference this summer I hope to start including a lot more wildlife moving forward.

This is stunning. I was interested to hear you feel stressed while painting as I often do and thought it was just me. Know that you have company in feeling stressed when painting. I always seem to rush just to get things covered on the under layer like I'm on a time limit. But I find the end results when I spend the time to finish worth the effort.

I'm so very grateful that you always generously share what is going through the "inside" in the process of making the paints, making the creating experiences much more relatable while giving these videos of yours much more depths. I am more of an "inpatient" person and always struggle with frustration on a daily basis, and I always cherish the moments when people are telling me: "It's all going to be alright. Take all the time you need, just to make things finally turn out the way you want them to be, no matter how long it takes!" At least, that's the message I took from your videos and I can't appreciate it even more! Thank you! ❤️

Your painting is magnificent and as a painter on the lookout for techniques to gain more control over wet-on-wet, this video is a gift. Thank you for sharing your findings and demonstrating your discoveries. It removes the enormous burden of layer upon layer that discourages many. I am thankful for those like yourself who choose to utilize RUclips as a medium to pass along human ingenuity and intelligence. The biggest thing I took from this was the frustration and stress part during the process. I'm always a stressed while painting and I get frustrated because it's not going how I like but I push through and it comes together by the end. I'm glad to know I'm not alone in that and someone with your talent feels that as well.

Thank you putting this video, and message out there, Chuck. Watching tons of techniques and approaches on the web, it’s easy for an artist to get overwhelmed and wonder if they’re following the right approach, or the right way of go about creating their work. I hope that those artist hear your message, which simply put, ‘You have to do what’s right for you. Whatever gets you to where your creative goal, and personal creative voice take you’. Take what you can from each of the many wonderful artists out there, who are offering their own experience and input. But travel your road. It’s your personal creative journey.

Thanks so much for your explanation of how to do wet on wet effectively. So grateful. I love to paint realism as well but was letting it dry for days in between because of the problem of all the colors melding together- so frustrating!!!!!!!!! There is nothing worse than working for hours- being 'relatively happy with your progress and then - trying to touch something up only to have all the original detail get swallowed up in the new paint!!! Nothing worse than ending a day of painting with total frustration! So happy to see and hear your technique. Thank-you for telling us you are tense during painting. Everyone around me thinks I'm crazy that I can't paint with Bob Ross's happy disposition. Even I was thinking I'm not a normal painter. You have inspired me!

I paint digitally, but learn a ton from watching traditional painters like you. And, I go through the same struggles. As mush as I enjoy painting, it can get very stressful. I'm trying to change my technique as well. I've noticed that each time I approach a new painting, I say I'm going to use a new technique, but I wind up using it about 10% of the painting. Each time I paint I try to use the new technique more and more until I get to 100% and am satisfied. Sorry for the rambling. Hope it makes some sense! Thanks very much for your instruction.

Beautiful as usual. At last, someone who admits to the tensions and stresses of painting. I was beginning to feel odd man out as so many tell me how relaxing painting is. I'm on edge all the time and yet I think that's what drives me on. If I'm relaxed I turn out rubbish. Not that I'm in your class but I'm trying to get there x

This duck you painted is alive, I love it.
And your new process to paint is a great teaching tool. I love it also.
