  • I can never decide between using oils or acrylic, I like how quickly acrylics dry but I also love the way oil paint blends together. Layering is a big part of my painting technique which means if I use oils I have to wait ages between each layer. Well not anymore! I have discovered a technique that allows me to paint realistic fur in oil paints in only 1 sitting.

Very interesting tip. And you can always wait for it to dry and adjust color tones with glazing as well.

I paint much the same way in oils. Ie I work alla prima (for the majority of the painting at least) starting from a thin mid tone base layer then working in the dark and light tone values.
It takes a lot of the work out of mixing many tonal values in each colour on the palette as you are creating those tonal transitions as you sculpt the form on the canvas having the added bonus of making painting much faster

The first phrase was like hearing my own thoughts of choosing whether painting with oils or acrylics - I really admire your very realistic way of painting fur ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I do love to paint alla prima wet in wet - both in acrylics and in oils and use a more traditional wet in wet style with oils but very interesting to see how you solved it - 🙏for sharing always inspiring 🧡🩵♥️💛💚

I do know how to do fur, but was interested in what oils you used, The fact when you switched to a medium oil, you said any will do This is helpful, because Lensed Oil is costly, in those tiny bottles sold in art stores. However in cans also costly , but more dangerous to have inside the home. Now if one knows someone if they can have some, in a small jar. they have, usually people are willing to spare some. But is more helpful to barter, by shoveling in winter, mow the grass, or pet sit Thanks. types of brushes. mix medium. If you pre do your canvas, to not have the canvas covering lines show through. I use Rust-Oleum Flat White, sand, then repeat. Acrylic is my first step, may mix with egg yoke and distilled H2O, after done using acrylic, I will use a clear coat, and then apply Oil. Interested when others tell what they do. Thanks Again.
