    Absolutely beautiful, I myself love oils because of the realistic look, but I use acrylics because of the drying time

    Beautiful painting. I love the effect of the oils over the acrylics. One of the things I find difficult about oils is the need to varnish, and the time needed for the painting to cure before varnishing. Does this technique reduce the drying time at all? Do you varnish your paintings before shipping, or do you use something like a touch-up varnish?

    Have you ever tried water soluble oils? I used to be a oil paint hater because of the dry time and the extensive clean up process, but I tried water soluble oils and they work just like oils, but you can water them down, and clean with soap and water

    I agree with you and find oil paints are so easy to blend, and get that beautiful transition between colours. Acrylics must be applied thin for oils over the top, as thick acrylic will crack and destroy all your work. Great job on your deer very well done.

    Oil on acrylic is a lovely way to paint. I find the dry acrylic surface enables the oil paint to flow beautifully

    I really feel like acrylics get a bad wrap....like people almost shun an artist that uses them. Those of us who have sensitivities to chemical smells acrylics are much easier to tolerate.

    This is such a great technique. This whole time I have been painting with oils from the start of the painting to the final details. Most of the time I get stressed from the drying time and I don't have fun. Thank you for sharing this technique - it's so helpful. I will definitely use it 😊.

    I think this just answered my question that I had for so long about wether to learn this or that! Spectially as a beginner it's confusing to read about all the pros and cons of each one and then still feeling confused lol now I know I can proceed with learning acrylic while having this option to add oil colors on top! i.e I don't have to choose between them :)

The sound quality is not bad in my opinion, but if you're looking to take it to the next level, a wireless microphone or shotgun mic could be a game-changer. Keep up the amazing content!

    Thank you. Now that I am older 76, managed to accumulate enough art materials on a shoe string budget, I can now restart once again. In past when younger trying to pay for college courses, and basics, I use to paint a lot, to help pay. But the bumpy roads in LIFE, came in fast. ALL art SUPPLIES , ART Sketch books , with many notes, from great uses of Stinging Nettle to the beauty of the Lady Slippers, Nature be it a insect, bull frog, to birds, foxes and deer, besides trying to sell paintings of peoples pets , Everything was STOLEN. NO insurance, and life has been much the same plateau. Just making ends meet . Never enough $$$money to mat and frame, and to afford the cost to enter shows . Most of my boards are Flat board Acrylic, Heard the gesso on the boards had been Altered. NO longer as strong. So I use Rust-Oleum flat white to give the boards a few coats, Sanding in between, Back and Front. to help dampness warp them, or to have the applied acrylic paint to flake off. Many have been discovering their applied acrylic is flaking or chipping off. Unfortunate, but my boards are 11X14 . At the time when People USE to buy Wall Calendars, I figured I would submit about 3 1/2 years of paintings . BUT now many places have enough submitted work up to 5 years. BUMMER FOR me . TIME slipping away.. 11/14 easier to make extra copies I thought to sell Prints. but since the FAKE Pandemic many places Folded, and cost to make Prints, many only do if making 100 of each , and I have just enough money to keep a Roof over my head., Cut costs every corner, no stove ,or fridge, heat at 50 in winter, Helps my energy bill. ART , I Keep going, Met ROBERT BATEMAN when very young, at one of the Parks in TORONTO ,that he ended up purchasing and donating, I did not know who he was, but he saw I was sketching some birds, and thought they were very good, I mentioned Owen Gromme , taught me how to "SEE" , He mentioned he too, enjoyed Owen Gromme's Art. Later once when I discovered who ROBERT BATEMAN was, in one of his books there was Tory Petterson , and OWEN GROMME. Hopefully , I will be able to get my paintings done that represents the WILDLIFE in the State I live in. I may never see probably the result of my work Where I live there are 344 different birds seen and that does not count all the accidental, besides WILDLIFE and Plants. I sometimes use Egg Yolk mixed with my Acrylics, HOPE it will last, OILS paint trying to try BLUERIDGE Paints, Some of the WHITES give winter the effect I really like. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR PAINTING . sad that RUSSIAN CHILDREN learn the Anatomy of the Human body and Animals very young, while USA students are still on blow painting, and following teachers instructions to MASS PRODUCE in USA school than to enjoy ART.

    The problem is that there is no chemical compatibility between oil and acrylic, even if its oil over acrylic. Acrylics tend to change with temperature more than oil. So, if the acrylic expands, the oil will crack.

    • @StudioWildlife
      @StudioWildlife  3 месяца назад +6

      That’s only a problem with thick, flexible acrylic layers, thin washes that soak into the canvas are no problem at all for the oil

    I love watching your videos! I started out many yrs. ago painting in oils having watched the artist on TV. Some time in the 90s I decided to try acrylics because they were water based. What a struggle! I was determined to get my acrylics to blend like oils.. Today I have to make sure I note on the back of the of the canvas if the final painting is oils because even I can't tell the difference.
    I tried the water mixable oil paints when they first came out, but was not happy with them. I am now trying them again with better results.
    Thank you for sharing your incredible videos.

    I like working with this same oil over acrylic process. My problem is knowing when to stop fiddling with the acrylic and move on to the oil. Your paintings are really beautiful and always seem to project a mood that draws the viewer in.

    Simply gorgeous!!
    I was taught that there are four main rules to oil painting.
    Fat over lean
    Slow drying over fast
    Flexible over inflexible
    Thick over thin
    Is oil paint more “fat” than acrylic? How much do you thin out the oil paint and with what do you thin it? Also is oil paint more flexible?
    I am very intrigued about this concept!

    • @JJ79_
      @JJ79_ 3 месяца назад +2

      Todays gessos are pretty much mostly acrylic so you paint over acryl anyway.

    • @Dita66
      @Dita66 2 месяца назад +2

      Acrylic is totale lean. No fat at all. Gesso is an open layer. Acrylic is a closed layer. Best way to open it, take a cloth with some turpentine and do this over your acrylic before you start with oilpaint. Than your layer is open again and your oilpaint can get his teeth into the acrylic (like with the gesso) I learned this ad the factory from Royal Talens.
