    Love your presentation style and really appreciate having the visuals alongside! I've been trying to wrestle 5e to build a better arcane archer (not specifically the fighter subclass, just any way to do an archer gish). The eldritch archer seen in pathfinder, etc. Would love to hear your thoughts!

      Thanks! I am still experimenting with format, but that will come in time. I am working on a homebrew archer gish, but I can probably come up with something official. I'll add it to my list of build ideas!

      @@fellstardm should have been direct and called it a Gish. Also, shouldn't it have a level of a warrior class just for the extra hit points at the beginning? Hmm...

    • @fellstardm
      @fellstardm  5 месяцев назад +1

      You're more than welcome to make that build and that video. There is no one-size-fits-all build for any given description. A Gish is so unbelievably vague of a name that making a video with 1 build called "How to make a Gish" is a pointless endeavor. I named 3 other options for that in about 15 seconds of this video.

    Was there errata that changed hex weapon? The desc says it must lack the two handed property. Glaives and other reach weapons (save the whip i guess) are all two handers.

    • @fellstardm
      @fellstardm  8 месяцев назад +3

      No, but you're missing the end of the Hex Warrior paragraph: If you later gain the Pact of the Blade feature, this benefit extends to every pact weapon you conjure with that feature, no matter the weapon's type.

      @@fellstardm Note with interest that this is very cool with improvised weapons. You could literally summon anything that you can hold in two hands.

    • @fellstardm
      @fellstardm  8 месяцев назад

      Absolutely, but it would still be an improvised weapon (1d4) damage. But could be a neat Moon Knight "Random Bullshit, Go!" build with Tavern brawler to make it 1d6. If you've ever read the Dresden Files, you could have a case of Conjuritis.

    Couldnt u get con proficiency by starting with sorcerer saving u a feat slot

    • @fellstardm
      @fellstardm  9 месяцев назад +1

      You could, but check my comments with Cobb. The short of it is, I'd have to spend a feat to get Wisdom save proficiency eventually, and wouldn't get the extra +1 to CON. Along with a few other things that are kinda preference. This process is probably the most efficient way to do it, in my opinion.

    • @LoreFoundry
      @LoreFoundry 9 месяцев назад +1

      A Warlock can also learn the invocation Eldritch mind which offers advantage on concentration checks. That almost waves the need for a con save proficiency. Having both though, good luck dropping concentration. In this build there were very few concentration spells selected so con proficiency isn't as important I think.

    • @fellstardm
      @fellstardm  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, I mentioned to pick it up at one point, but to keep the paladin flavor and pacing, you really need to keep Thirsting Blade + Eldritch Smite. I guess you could get the Eldritch Adept feat for it, but if you're going to use the feat, you might as well get the other benefits of Warcaster.
      The Resilient CON pick just gives so many other benefits that I have a hard time not slotting it in. +1 for more HP, Cold/Poison/etc saves, and the concentration is a great perk. I can see dropping it though, especially if you roll for stats.

      @fellstardm I saw a 3d printer in the background of one of your shorts. I too 3d print and do models for dnd. That is actually one of my ways I like to make character builds is find a cool model and build a character around it.

    • @fellstardm
      @fellstardm  9 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for the kind welcome! I don't love the Sorc start for 3 reasons: 1) I'll likely need to take Resilient: Wisdom later anyway, considering how debilitating failing those saves can be. 2) I wouldn't be able to get to +3 CON at level 1. There aren't a ton of half feats that are useful AND give the +1 there. 3) You wouldn't be able to start with scale mail and the 18 AC at level 1 because Sorcs don't get Medium Armor/Shield proficiency, not to mention the weapon proficiency.
      But ultimately, it is a preference thing. I totally understand the free CON save proficiency being a draw for a Sorc start. I just don't think it matches the 1-20 build. On a level 3 start (which I prefer), that's a different story.
      I wouldn't advocate picking setting specific backgrounds as it is less likely for all tables to allow that crossover. It is why I suggested Custom Lineage/V.Human, since most tables will accept that without a fuss. I know many DMs that would ban setting specific backgrounds as they are, as you mentioned, significantly more powerful/versatile.

    • @DungeonsandDeadlifts1
      @DungeonsandDeadlifts1 9 месяцев назад

      @@fellstardm that is an interesting take on WIS proficiency and a good point. I would probably go warlock level 2, and as soon as you go warlock, you get those armor and shield prof bc it is part of the sub class.
      I forget that some tables don't allow feats, spells, subclasses, etc. That is setting specific. Personally, I allow any official content. Power creep is so big every bg now comes with an automatic feat. I just allow those and give a free feat if they take an old background but I know that is table specific

    I'm sorry, but did I miss the part where you built something out of the ordinary? It's a sorlock. Probably the most popular non-paladin multiclass build in the game. Given your flavorful description, I was expecting something......more. ah, c'est la vie.

    • @fellstardm
      @fellstardm  9 месяцев назад +4

      Well, 5e has been out for just about 10 years, and the last sourcebook was 4 years ago, there isn't much "new" to build with. However, DnD is more popular than ever currently, and people are looking for guidance on how to make their characters into reality. Considering the amount of bad build ideas I've seen suggested out there, I wanted to make something for new and old players to try out that isn't just Hexblade 1/Paladin 19 or Hexblade 1/Paladin 6/Sorcerer 13.
      But yes, it is a sorlock, which I mention very early on. But it isn't based on eldritch blast machine gunning. It is a build that works at all 20 levels, independent of magic items and setting specific books, using highly available source material. It is flexible and viable in both combat and social pillars of play, and exploration is rarely touched by most tables.
      I don't believe making some weird multiclass that only works starting at level 11 helps much of anyone. And what flavorful description? This is the definition of a build viable in both melee and magic, at ranges from 5ft to 120ft. It has healing, smites/nova, and doesn't touch a single level of actual paladin.
      What were you expecting?

    • @LoreFoundry
      @LoreFoundry 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@fellstardm About this guy above, but I was expecting a Eldritch Knight Fighter when I read the title. Sorlock is cool. I am actually playing a Hexblade Divine soul right now. I am 1 sorcerer/7 Warlock. I wanted to reach lv 9 in Warlock to have 2 5th lv spells every rest. I am enjoying my 4th lv spells.

    • @fellstardm

      That's certainly another option. I wanted to get to metamagic as quick as possible... and keep as close to full casting progression as I could. 2 levels short... oh well.

    • @20storiesunder
      @20storiesunder 9 месяцев назад +1

      Most people don't know about the meta, it's fine to make videos talking about them that aren't 100 years old.

      @@20storiesunder did you just refer to DND and say the "Meta" this isn't WoW or Any other MMO. The word Meta does not apply here. I can tell you from the now uhhh close to 25 years playing this game. Every race/class combination can beat any written module in 5e.
