No one wants to be stuck in a country where they have to hire attorney. if you're innocent, you're not afraid of investigation, therefore, there is no incentive for you to talk, but there is a lot of risk in talking. it's no one's fault, it's just the system works, people don't get paid or rewarded to be a good person.

I would have thought that you pay for the kayaks BEFORE you take them out. Sometimes you even need to pay a little extra deposit which would normally get refunded back to you when the kayak is returned in good condition.

You can be innocent as can be but if the police think you did something they will truly use everything they can to put you behind bars. Police is unfortunately not really on your side, I urge you to watch a documentary or interview on someone wrongly convicted.

Oh man. So In Catalina Island my X GF and I rented a Kayak for 1 hour and went on our way (no group). She started splashing water at me so I did the same and we flipped over in the middle of ocean. No one was around and it was the hardest thing trying to flip the Kayak back over. Took us like 15 minutes. We finally did it. Super Scary experience. Just sharing this story. Not saying this is what happened but if it did and she Drowned. My condolences to the family and may she rest in peace.
