She is a grown woman who went into a lake without a life jacket. Was a life jacket offered and she refused? Regardless, #1 Never go onto a water craft without your life jacket on and snapped/ zipped on tight, yet comfortable. Especially if your excursion will be out of sight and far from shore, especially in windy weather that creates waves that can tip or capsize your kayak. Also these kayaks have plugs at the bottom and may come loose. Once the plug is gone, kayak fills with water and sinks. Always inspect your water craft or kayak before going onto water. Find the plug and make sure it is secure and tight!

I live on the lake... am from LA but live here in Guatemala and the lake gets VERY choppy and the currents get super strong in the second half of the day.... you can feel the water pull you like a river sometimes when swimming in it and if you're not a strong swimmer or you get complacent you can very easily get overwhelmed... there are also echos of noises all over the lake because its located deep in a valley of volcanos all around... there are also tons of public transport boats constantly running causing a ton of wake in the lake all day... so you would never hear someone yell for help... the ladies story completely checks out about the kayak getting swept away and her going to get it and turning around and Nancy being gone...

the water is typically low 70s... but the temp has nothing to do with a body floating... it has to do with salt in the water (there is none its a fresh water lake) and if she swallowed water... then her stomach would be full of water and she would sink... much like a bottle full of water being thrown in the lake... possibly the docomp process would lead to her floating weeks or months later but also the lake is VERY deep and not like most lakes... as you go down that deep the pressure could just keep you down...

Bribes are done with EVERYTHING... from speeding tickets, to random stops and being forced to pay to get your passport back even if you did nothing wrong.... This lake is VERY large and later in the day when the winds pick up the current gets really strong... the public transport boats are running constantly causing heavy wake in the lake that can get dangerous and overwhelming... My house is right on the lake and I go swimming in the lake every morning and evening.. im a 37 year old healthy fit male that has surfed my whole life and I can feel the currents and overwhelming nature of the lake all the time and have to warn friends that come to visit not to swim too far out because things change quick on the lake... its much more likely that Nancy did exactly as the witness said and she got off her Kayak to swim and the current took the Kayak.. all it takes is one or two gulps of water for someone to freak out and lose the ability to stay afloat, especially if there is constant wake and currents... a missed breath or two and panic setting in.. this isnt salt water so you're not buoyant and can easily sink very quickly... its much more likely this poor girl just drown and the police didnt want the negative press about the lake so told the people to kick rocks... this places entire industry is tourism...
