  • We wanted to share how important it is to purchase a weight distribution hitch to help eliminate squat when pulling a Travel Trailer or RV. After much research we decided on the EAZ-Lift Recurve R3 by Camco and could not be happier which was the inspiration to make a review video! Hope you enjoy and please don’t forget to like, subscribe and share with anyone looking for information on a weight distribution hitch!

    For those who are wondering about the torque specs on the barn hangers. The manufacturer (Camco) recommends 80 ft. lbs. per bolt. Also, the forks should be flat and touching both sides of the spring bar evenly. The set screw on the hitch head can be adjusted to set proper pre-load on the bars. Once the proper angle has been identified you can lock the set screw by tightening it up 1/4 turn using a chisel of flat head screwdriver. I hope these tips help someone out there.

    Thanks for explaining this hitch. We bought a new camper and hitch 3 months ago, and this hitch was recommended. I really didn't understand how it worked. I also have a 2020 F150, blue so its really close to my setup! I kept getting worried cause the top edge of the hanger bracket was not staying level with the camper frame. It kept tilting. You can see on your video, that yours does too. I figure now that it is the SOP for this hitch. Thanks again!

    Thanks for posting, I recently purchased a new TT which the dealer sold me this hitch except the R6 version. After installation to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. After complete dis assy and re assy exactly like the Camco video instructs I still had a terrible driving rig. I made a call to Camco customer service and was connected to a specialist. After initial fact finding it was determined the 1000lb bars I was given are way to stiff for a 6 k trailer. Remember these hitches are new and dealers are un familiar with them as well as salesman. If your having ANY issues call Camco customer service. It'll save you alot of headaches. Oh yeah, they are actually shipping the correct bars at no cost.

    Very good information here, I just bought a 4100lbs dry weight travel trailer to a private seller who gave me the R3 recurve WDH. Problem is the spring bars set is 1200lbs which I think is too much (stiff and bumpy ride) and might damage the TT frame.
    I have ordered a new set of 600lbs bars same as yours, hopefully it will improve the ride🤞

    I have the same hitch, was purchased with our travel trailer. I have a 6” lifted F250 and our trailer sways so bad with this system. I just bought a new shank with a maximum of 9.5” drop. Hopefully that helps some. With the original shank it really made my truck squat in the rear quite a bit. It’s a 38’ 8900lb trailer with bunk house.

    • @OutsidebySide
      @OutsidebySide  3 года назад

      @Rorary Cummings Thank you for taking time to watch our video! It works well for us because we have a smaller trailer. You definitely have a long trailer and understand how you could still have away issues with sway! 🤩

  • @Stanf954
    @Stanf954 Месяц назад

    The sway control collar should be loosened and spring bars removed whenever the trailer is being backed into a campsite or driving on uneven ground, This will prevent causing damage to the trailer A frame bc of unnecessary stress being applied to the frame. At any speed below 40 mph the WDH is not required to be fully operational in the campground.

    Your video was a big help. We just purchased this R3. The problem we have is that when my husband took the hitch off... the sway bars will not come out of the hitch. He was given no instruction at the dealer as to how to do anything. Also found out from your video that we did not get our allen wrench when the hitch was installed. How do you get the sway bars to pop out of the hitch. They are still locked in ours.

    • @OutsidebySide

    Hi! Thanks for your video. Do you know what’s different with R6 and R3 model? What’s the function about the adjust bolt between inside and bottom side of the hitch? How it works?

    • @OutsidebySide
      @OutsidebySide  2 года назад +1

      @James Yao The amount sway control on the R3 is controlled manually by the tension of the Allan bolt on the hitch collar, the sway on the R6 is controlled automatically by a spring loaded collar, We are not to sure about the R6 because we have the R3. Thank you for watching our video! 🤩

  • @johnnixon
    @johnnixon 3 года назад +1

    I'm considering one of these as well, but I'm towing with a mid-sized SUV and a trailer under 3K. Are there any marking on the sway controller nut or do you just count turns for how "stiff" you want the sway control? Also, how much would you say the hitch weighs?

    • @OutsidebySide
      @OutsidebySide  3 года назад +1

      @John Nixon No markings. It’s just friction based on how tight you set it, we are still fine tuning it. We haven’t experienced any major sway since installing this hitch. Thanks for watching! 🤩 btw, the current setting is about 1/2 turn after it begins to get tight.

    If you left the truck stock without the leveling kit \when you hooked up your trailer your truck would set level when towing which is what you want but instead you spent unnecessary money on a leveling kit for the truck and then a weight distribution kit to level a truck that would be level without the unnecessary leveling kit on the truck.

    • @OutsidebySide
      @OutsidebySide  16 дней назад

      @deanwebster6708 We agree with you but the weight distribution hitch helps distribute the weight to the front axle of the truck and the axle of the trailer. The leveling kit came with the truck and it's more for leveling the truck unloaded. We have also added road master active suspension springs to the rear of the truck since making this video. Thank you for taking time to comment. 😀

    With your rig and trailer, you might not even need the anti sway/distribution. That will save a lot of time and hassle. I used to tow a 21’ travel trailer with Chevy Silverado half ton with EZ2 anti sway bars. After awhile I discover I don’t really need it. If people feel better and more confident with it, then by all means use it.

    I have this hitch and a 25ft Keystone Springdale. Truck is a 2018 F150 2.7 Ecoboost. I adjusted the hitch and my front end is back to unloaded height and rear sag is only 1.5" lower...so pretty good leveling. My only concern is that the front of the trailer sits 1/8" taller than the rear. Every camper I see, it looks like the trailer is always lower in the front. Maybe the 1/8" higher is a non issue? The whole combo looks pretty level.

    • @OutsidebySide
      @OutsidebySide  Год назад +1

      @Michael Mascarello We are definitely not experts but would say that 1/8th is not a concern. It might give you a little more space for the cargo in the truck or trailer & it might level out! Sounds like you have a great setup! Thanks for watching! 🤩

    Great video and thank you for sharing. Not sure if you can answer my question, but it’s open for everyone also, my 1500 has a 6” lift, and we anticipate on purchasing a 24-25’ dual axle bunk house trailer, 3,900 - 4,300 dry wait. Would I need the 600lb, or 800lb R3 model? And lastly, since this weight distribution hitch seems to do the job with what it’s meant to do, would I even need airbags for my truck? I would appreciate any feedback or input before making any purchases. Thank you.

    Keep raising the tongue jack and you do not have to use the tool to install the spring bars. The only time I have EVER used the tool was on uneven ground. And if it is not possible, I do not connect the spring bars until I pull out of the site and get to level ground and then install the spring bars.

    I am using this same system on my truck. I'm noticing more sway with the wind than I thought i would... to tighten it up do i turn the tool toward the truck? Just want to make sure I'm turning the right way.

    • @OutsidebySide
      @OutsidebySide  3 года назад

      @Tracie Tipton Thank you for watching our video and reaching out! Towards the truck is tighter which will reduce the amount of sway. Our current setting is about 1/2 turn past once it begins to get snug. You could tighten it more and see if that helps. If you are still experiencing sway, the set up of the hitch might need to be adjusted, or it could be the size of you trailer or ability / size or capacity of your tow vehicle.
      Hope this makes since or helps. It is difficult to answer the sway issue since we don’t know your exact set up. If you have any more questions, feel free to email us at info@outsidebyside.net and we are happy to help with ensuring your safe travels! 🤩
