Practices such as praying to Buddha for bumper harvest is NOT the teaching of Buddhas. Buddhas do not entertain such world matters. They had all entered Nibbana and do not exist in this world anymore. Hence such prayers (and offerings) are meaningless in Buddhas perspective. Offerings of seeds is basically Hinduism practices and THROWING flowers (or offerings) towards a Buddha is DISRESPECTFUL in Buddhist tradition. In the text Sakyamuni Buddha preached the proper ways of revering and making offerings to the Buddha. Tibetan (i.e. Vajrayana) Buddhism is very corrupted by Hinduism - NOT the Proper Teachings of Sakyamuni Buddha. The same with the Chinese (i.e. Mahayana) Buddhism. The Theravada Buddhism is not free from corrupt and deviant practices (esp. in Indo-China) but in lesser magnitude compared wt those 2 above. Buddhism nowadays is NOT consistent with the texts, more of deviant cult practices of money making institutions. Fortunately the Sri Lankans tried to preserve the traditions as pure as possible.
