    These are merely kids in action. Their adult masters are in a different category altogether. Not saying the kids are bad or anything. They are enjoyable to watch. Probably the best acrobatic martial arts video I have ever seen. Thumbs up.

    WuShu is NOT just a sport. It is even not just a martial art. It's a way of living. For instance training or doing stuff which is hard to do for you more and more until you are able to do it and become skillful. But this you can do in all parts of your life; Learning, Cooking or Music(Thats also called Gongfu). WuShu also starts with learning manners, learning to understand WuShu, respect your teacher, your training, your mates and to understand yourself. It is a complete System.

    People learn martial arts for two different reasons: for sport and for self-defense. I personally learn street-oriented martial arts, but I do understand and appreciate that many practice these styles for recreational purposes. Plus, in modern society, many people forget that the famous martial artists are usually in their 40's and 50's for a reason. It takes time to learn martial arts, you don't just get good by attending a few classes a week, it takes years of hard work and training.

    This is a visually beautiful sport. Wish they would add this to the Olympics. I am here because I am a fan of EXO-M Tao, who is Chinese and and who in middle school won a national championship in this sport. His "teaser" videos is the first time I ever saw wushu. I am now a new fan of the sport/art form after watching this video.

  • @Ontite

    Wushu is more for aesthetic purpose, just fluid movements and forms.
    Wing Chun can be applied to real self defense, and will work on your blocking and close quarter fighting. Wushu would be good for flexibility and acrobatic moves. Take your pick.

    I used to do wushu at a old wushu school in my area. But shortly after I joined it discontined there wushu classes. And now I'm a college student who is in a current searhc for a job. So even if I did find another wushu school I dont have the time or money to start again. In the short time I studied wushu I felt that my dreams of become this awesome gravity defying martial artist would come true, but now its gone. Whenever I watch video like this, it makes me very sad.....

    wushu are two words in chinese. Wu means "performing", Shu means "physical artform". So basically, it's a performance, incorporating cool stuff from many schools of kung fu into something that looks impressive. It's like taking running, jumping, and bouncing a ball: all three things are different and can be a sport in their own right, but when combined, you have basketball.

    @Matamune87 you're kind of right, however, it is still martial arts but it is in the demonstration form, its very common in china, it may not teach self defense of course but most of the techniques have a strong root from several martial arts, because the movements are a little similar, think of it as "martial arts dancing" lol.

  • @kevchu8045
    @kevchu8045 14 лет назад

    @georgepurezajr Your right Sanda is applicable for street fights. However, when you become older, it loses its effectiveness. Traditional chinese martial arts taught properly could better the chances of winning in a fight.

    Fantastic! Amazing athletes...
    I did copious amounts of wushu - I used to get the critique "It doesn't work, it's just for show..." etc.
    If applied correctly wushu is as efficient as any other martial art.
    I have fought muay thai fighters, bjj-fighters (chinas work miracles on the floor) etc. and won.
    Wushu is as impressive as it looks!

  • @kevchu8045
    @kevchu8045 14 лет назад

    @calwudude Sanshou or Sanda is a part of Wushu but is not the same. Wushu concentrates on performance, while Sanda is a hybrid type of fighting style devoloped in the hopes of formulating all different types of Kung Fu/ Traditional Wushu into one set of rules. Wushu in Mandarin means Martial Arts, but today it is something different. If one wants to talk about applicable Wushu for self defense, it would be called "Traditional Wushu".

    I have long been extremely interested in martial arts. Taking classes have not been an option for me in the past, but now with my own car and a paying job i can finally learn. First off, does anyone have suggestions of which arts i should look into? WuShu has always interested me, but would it be a thing that i would be able to pick up as a 16 year old without much current acrobatic ability? Just had a few questions and was hoping some of you would have some insight. Thanks

    you guys gotta know that fighting and martial arts parted way a long time back. martial arts now includes not only combative purposes but movement, culture, philosophy, science etc. if you're only thinking along the narrow minded lines of using this for fighting, then you need to understand more.

    Just like Capoeira, Wushu was a way of practicing the real applications of martial arts through aerial acrobatics and gymnastics when it was outlawed by the government. In Capoeira, the slaves weren't allowed to practice combat arts for fear or revolting so they created a performance art or dance out of it. There are real practical applications to fighting in both arts but it's mainly for sport. Don't underestimate someone just because they don't practice mainstream glorified MMA.

    @calwudude im not sure about aikido or baqua, but taiji does have sparring. The Tai Chi that most people are familiar with are for health and longevity. However, Taichiquan I have heard was made for self defense (Chen Style I believe). I am unsure about Aikido having sparring, but its origin consists of disarming someone with a sword. The point being, martial arts were created as self defense at one point.

    Take a look at their athleticism and flexibility and quickness. You think you can even touch them? Even without the wushu training, they 'd kick your ass. This is stylized Kung Fu for sure, but it is not fictionalized athleticism and skill. As I said, it won't be like in the movies, but they'll have no problem kicking your ass.

    Awesome I love this video. I took wushu for about 8 years and I think I'm pretty good but not that good. Its very acrobatic and very good for conditioning, but if your looking for a practical martial arts I would consider mma, or if you want something closer to this stuff you should take sang da. They don't teach you how to fight in wushu, they teach you how to perform. But that doesn't mean you can't use any of it in a fight.

  • @kevchu8045

    @calwudude I apologize if I did not make my statement clear. Seeing you knew alot about Wushu I thought you might have known, but apparently not. Wushu does condition the body, but in what way? Flexibility, timing, reflexes, yes, but not in blocking (hardening the limbs so that it would be effective), how can you fight if you can't even block?

    Actually every martial art was at least based in the idea that someone needed to hurt someone else... The appreciation of the art was added later by Shaolin and the ideas of Yin Yang, which all makes sense. But lets be honest, the reason Shaolin Buddhist monks who's lives are about peace and love first learned martial arts because they found that they needed to HURT other people. A temple full of gold and treasure in the middle of nowhere run by a bunch of pacifists sounds like an easy target...
