the last part was baguazhang, one of the three main internal martial arts along with Xingyiquan and Taichichuan (also known as Tai Chi). It was one of the martial arts used by Jet Li in The One along with Xingyiquan. Also, just so u can tell, if the routine starts out with raising the hands in the air and then lowering them next to the waist, it's an internal chinese martial art.
Do blades that flexible negatively effect the integrity of your cuts and thrusts? It seems that you'd need to worry about snapping when hitting an actual target, or are you using a more whip-like motion to target arteries and such?
yes there is. for example, long fist is based on: Chaquan 查拳, Huaquan華拳, Hong quan洪拳, and Shaolin quan 少林拳. And back in the day people depended on fighting to live. Just because no one practices application as often anymore(and SOME do-ex: zhao qing jian)doesn't mean there's no connection.
I attended brazillian jujutsu and also abit of hapkido classes. Both have many many low mentenance but effective moves! Lose or gain weight.. still executable.
I've looked at a lot of the Shaolin and Wushu movies on here, and so far, it seems like they're only used as an elaborate dance form. Is there supposed to be more to it than that, and I'm just not seeing it?
travisdt: Marshal arts are used for #1 single purpose to keep the user alive. That's it no matter what, any marshal art if used correctly will keep the user alive.
yes in wushu martial art the sword for performance is quite thin... n they are called Dao n Jian.... However jian and dao can be flexible or not depend on the owner and his set of art... some style require flexibility while others dont. Yet with those set of skills they are bothe formidable opponents tht could startle the katana. But lastly its the user n his skills not the tool that counts
I attended kung fu tryout classes. I conclude that most popular styles are for people of only certain body types and atletic abilities. some people lose flexibility, lose and gain weight many times due to work /family demands. A good martial art has moves executable regardless of changes in your body over time; in other words: low maintenance but effective.
who knows, wushu has been around a long time, probably around the time of the samurai, if the sword is swifter than the katana, then these would do good against them. Then again, the katana is a very strong sword so i wouldnt be blocking it with the saber, so idk, it all depends
This is also the sexiest as well as artistic display of wushu on screen I've ever seen. Guess the PRC is catching up with the West on personal expression.
i think ur talking about the broadsword. theres 2 kinds of wushu broadswords. theres that one, which my school uses for fight scenes and the regular broadsword. (u have to google up wushu broadswords to see what it looks like cause its hard to explain)
i love the wushu stuff but I'm not sure I like how the video is shot. I think the zooming in and the lighting makes it more like a modern dance or something instead of wushu. :( wushu is so much better/hotter than modern dance...
i have respect for whu shu competitions cos thas where Jet Li started. But they seem to just do these fast movements that do look impressive..but it aint fighting like what bruce did.
err the reason why these weapons seem to be like "aluminium foil" like someone said is because due to the forms of their arts, the flexibilities of the weapons will allow them to attack from more unpredictable angles, as they are not for war use against armoured enemies, it needs not to be hard because all it takes is a small hole in ur body or neck to end someone's life :)
You know that besides making you feel better and training your body and mind to perfection,it can actually save your life some day.Martial arts is a way of life,it is the art of expressing the human body,I want to grow old fit and healthy, not weak and sick, what about you?Besides you can think more clear after you exhaust yourself, that's scientifically proven.I hope that's reason enough to train martial arts, have a good day adn may you one day find internal peace.
for everyone who says this is useless. walk up to jet li and challange him. good luck with the injuries. every martial art takes years to perfect but in the end u get something more than physical ability, and that is the real goal of each fighter
well it depends on whos faster too. ur one inch punch isnt gunna work if i drop u on da floor and ur on ur back fighting and if someones kick or punch is strong enough grabs dont work to well. But i like tiger claw and iron fist the forms are really good and deadly. I basically love all Martial arts. No art is the best compared to da rest. all depends on da person using da art
Not everyone has to train uber-hard and/or starve themselves to do that. A lot of people are naturally muscular or have naturally high metabolisms or both.
I have seen only a few people with a body like that,he has absolutely no fat in his skin.Bruce Lee had a body like that,it's very difficult to get because you must eat the right things and train in the right way everyday.
I think wushu is now an offical olympic event now. if it's true, i finally got something to watch besides judo, tae kwon do, karate, and amatur boxing. i'm getting a little tire of mainstream martial arts. don't get me wrong i've done karate and tae kwon do for about 4yrs now, but i want something different. I'm actually looking for wushu schools in San Diego since I'll be living there soon. People who diss martial arts should challenge a real practicioner and not somebody who's just learning.
good one zls82, i mean america experienced it too. it just so happens that people werent really worrying about, correct me if im wrong, environmental intoxication at the time. im sure china will advance, i just hope something like the cold war doesnt start.
All of U are correct in some ways. I live and in china for many years. The problem is that wushu (kongfu) here has nothing to do with fighting. The only place is military. For last several years they got something that they cal SANDA. This is fight. But the level is very poor. I know some people outside of china and their wushu is better then the ch guys. The real chinese fighting skills are practiced only in taiwan and a bit in hong kong.
How about you try performing fast wushu routines with a sword that weighs 12 kilos, which can slice a watermelon (or perhaps your head - apparently its quite spacious in their) in half.
Yeah...MMA shows it's the fighter, not the art that decides win in a fight. To judge properly, we should ask: for anyone in any type of condition, whether pot-bellied or lithe, could the learner learn the art in a short period of time w/o lots of conditioning. Suppose there is war and and you have to pick a large group of people, fat and fit, to train very quickly and effectively? I wouldn't choose wushu -- I'd pick jiu-jitsu and / or muay thai.
wushu looks visually awesome, but given the amount of practice needed to avoid injury it doesnt seem that useful as a mechanism for self-defense. Then again, I suppose most learnt it throught self-defence (kung-fu etc) anyway...
This is so cool and beautiful!!! Such an amazing art! Iove the Ying and Yang, the guy and girl...So awsome!
Amazing video.
Wow body.
Music fit very well.
Amazing skills.
Wow, great video... with overwhelming aesthetics ...
Thanks for putting that up! It's nice to see it again. - Lao Houli (hehe)
VERY COOL- GREAT! Inspiration for my holiday :)
Good music, that harmony, I think.
Nicely put Terrorwind... People always ask what form/style is better! It's down to the fighter, on the day and nothing more, nothing less.
That was beautiful. Lots of hard work. Thank you for posting this. :-)
I watch this video every time I come home from Wushu training. Love it.
Wow... its surelly one of the most beautifulls wushu videos that i´ve seen!!!
Congratulations!
very nice presentation ! :-)
Cool, this is one of those clips that really showcases wushu, thanks He Jingde

Do blades that flexible negatively effect the integrity of your cuts and thrusts? It seems that you'd need to worry about snapping when hitting an actual target, or are you using a more whip-like motion to target arteries and such?
I love how you can see the contrast between the men's and women's broadsword styles.
Beautiful to watch, lovely music, but the video is too dark
That was amazing! I wish I could do all that stuff
yes there is. for example, long fist is based on: Chaquan 查拳, Huaquan華拳, Hong quan洪拳, and Shaolin quan 少林拳.

I'm not generally fond of wushu displays, but there's no denying there is so much to admire in this video.
beautiful...
All the participants compose their own forms, and its based on overall performance of their forms, including speed, strength, and how good it looks.
beautifull!!
I loved the addition of bagua in this.
i love watching wushu, but dim mak i love watching... dim mak amazes me... :P
i obviously didn't mean it in that sense, i meant that it is very interesting and stuff but when you come down to it, what is it useful for?
wow :-O do you have more?
wushu would be so fun i'm going to learn it when i get back to the states along with wing tsun
I attended brazillian jujutsu and also abit of hapkido classes. Both have many many low mentenance but effective moves! Lose or gain weight.. still executable.
Yes tht's true what is this song and who sing it ? If somebody knows, please can you tell it to us
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Champion !!
I've looked at a lot of the Shaolin and Wushu movies on here, and so far, it seems like they're only used as an elaborate dance form. Is there supposed to be more to it than that, and I'm just not seeing it?

Very nice video.
These are great athletes, here we can see cool moves ;-) Perfect!
Who are they? Nice clip.
I got the musical artist as being Beth Quist. What is the name of the song she is performing?

What kind of sword are you imagining that ways 12 kilos? Whatever monster sword that is, it's clearly not the type for these forms.
i think ur talking about the broadsword. theres 2 kinds of wushu broadswords. theres that one, which my school uses for fight scenes and the regular broadsword. (u have to google up wushu broadswords to see what it looks like cause its hard to explain)
Hey hey! Can't we all just get along?! The world would be such a better place then.
i love the wushu stuff but I'm not sure I like how the video is shot. I think the zooming in and the lighting makes it more like a modern dance or something instead of wushu. :(
wushu is so much better/hotter than modern dance...
WOw they r great
I just got new idols :D
you can find videos of him doing bagua and tai chi when he was injured...
we do respect our legend..
Without Wu shu there will be no sanda.. so
Well I prefer wu shu... ipractice it on an academy, and i love iT!
that's sooo cool O_O
It´s He Jingde, and I think he is the current wushu champion or something.
i have respect for whu shu competitions cos thas where Jet Li started. But they seem to just do these fast movements that do look impressive..but it aint fighting like what bruce did.
it is quiet wery that u wery wrote three werys in such a short statement.
welcome to China, it's a cool place with huge culture diversity.

Nice

...does this have anything to do with wushu?...
wushu is a general term for all kinds of martial arts.
I have seen only a few people with a body like that,he has absolutely no fat in his skin.Bruce Lee had a body like that,it's very difficult to get because you must eat the right things and train in the right way everyday.
forget WUSHU... my new goal is to look like that guy! :D
thanks for advice, I will :)

Wow, all I can say , wow!!!
wow amazing how flexy the swords are
you are good i will give you that. but if you are so good why hide in the shadows. take pride in what you do and do it to where we can see you.
good one zls82, i mean america experienced it too. it just so happens that people werent really worrying about, correct me if im wrong, environmental intoxication at the time. im sure china will advance, i just hope something like the cold war doesnt start.

It's not a forum :S
I think the woman seemd more ruthless. Needless to say, this video is pretty damn fresh.
