I have been watching In Class with Carr since episode 1 back in 2020, and I have been blessed beyond words. So much so, I am looking for ways to get involved in my life and community...I want to bring my brick. The basis for the conversation is something that has been weighing on me being a Christian myself. I have been exploring and deconstructing my Christianity and American Christianity since agent orange got into office. Professor Hunter and Dr. Carr, thank you for growing me.

Late to the party...but I preached the true Christmas story during my student pastor period. My kids had gone to the Adler planetarium and came back excited about what they learned. I listened, did my due diligence and crafted my sermon, crediting them as co-writers. The congregation were stunned.

This conversation was refreshing. The Guest wants to create an environment where Jesus is not the end all be all in christianity. (which, if there was a Jesus, Jesus was not even a Christian.) I support you, Rev. in your pursuit. There was a whole lot more before Jesus. et us get busy with knowing that religious/social structure.

Great afternoon, Professor Karen. When I was a pre-teen I was kicked out of the Catholic School and at the time it was so hurtful only to find out many years later it was the best thing that ever happen to me. Dr. Carr is giving a history lesson of Black religion. I remember going up mamma practice voodoo, was a Catholic but hated what she would call "Holy Rollie People" She meant Holy Rollers, such as Pentecostal or COGIC people. Mamma always said she was from East Kingston Jamaica, listen to Dr. Carr I learned the slaves ships stopped at the South American and surrounding indigenous Islands before the slave ships arrived at what we now call North America. Professor Karen, I never knew my mamma story and I honestly think her spirit lead me to You and Dr. Carr. I never understood my mamma while she was alive, I now understand so much about her life, from the lessons I have been learning from You and Dr. Carr. I feel myself crying right now. I thank you Professor Karen.

Blk Churches have ignored the Works of Black Technological Scholar Dr James Cone's works like Black Theology and Black Power,

His question is good. My question is, what seminary did this brother attend? Where one goes actually matters. As a proud graduate of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University (STVU) we learned how to decolonize them church. Our professors, many who are graduates of STVU themselves nurtured us to love us, our people and the value of a black liberation hermeneutic. In my mind, no Black person should attend a white evangelical seminary or divinity school because they will never love themselves or their people. Dean Emeritus, Dr. John Kinney, Drs. Patricia Gould-Champ, Boykin Sanders, Jerome Ross and many others have worked on decolonization of the text and our minds. Again, where one goes actually matters in theological education.

Music is good but without the technical, cultural, and reclaiming a traditional African language of spirituality all is listed before we get started. We must learn:
    1. history of humanity which is African and Black and then melenated deficient people and others.
    2. technical aspects of spirituality
    3. African cultural traditions
    4. Reclaiming a traditional African language i.e. Mdu Ntr

Every god blessed time I listen to Dr. Carr, there occurs a synchronous moment... more akin to an epiphany. Maybe its because we are both seeking the same evolution of the pan-africanist mind, both standing in the same warming sun (unlike the winter sun of the dominant caste that illuminates but does not warm).
African spirituality is ancient and closer to the truth and far more resonant to evolved human ear than the desiccated, reductionist, and bloodless religion of the social structure. The african spirituality as found in The Hermetica vibrates us higher and speaks to the essential elements of light, ancestors and god that we have intuited and held onto through all the passages of time and space. It lives in the wordless vocalizations similar in my jamaican mother, your south Carolinian grandmother, and a mother pounding fufu in ghana. This is merely a peek at the common and timeless consciousness that moves through us. I believe the more we attune to the eternal and universal force (call it god, call it a conscious universe) the more we become what we are supposed to be, the consciousness of god made manifest.

Dr Carr is talking about spirits and a lot of people are jumping on board with "what our African ancestors worshiped before they were enslaved". We should not assume that there were no Africans who had the correct understanding of Christianity before they reached "The Americas". The question should be was the spirit's they were worshipping of God or did they practice idolatry? It maybe true they worshiped spirit's under the umbrella of what is called "African Spirituality", but that doesn't make it right, but heretical, according to the Word of God.
1Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. 1 John 4:1-3

I've been saying this about gospel music since the late 90s; how our music(gospel) has steadily been white washed (check all the names and categories etc). Removing the blackness with this so called worship music. I just can't stand that music. And that capitalist mentality has completely saturated the ''çhurch' via that music. I'm done with organised religion.

I would say get rid of social structure models and values ( motivational preaching, mimes, prosperity gospel,
    praise teams, praise dancing).
Bring back the Mother's Board, Hammond Organ, mass choirs.
We have lost the Soul Force the Elders
had. ( They now time the dancing and
shouting and use clap track technology).
