I love minecraft for it's exploration. Running around the world seeing gigantic mountains, forests divided by grasslands where sheep and cows live, great lakes hidden by high hills, the giant tree standing on top of a majestic hill. Experiencing the joy of discovering those set of unique blocks is the main reason I play minecraft. Even though they're only blocks there's a certain charm to them and the random generation that few games can match. Hopefully games like No Man's Sky can give me the same kind of experience (if not better). But until then Minecraft will still be my go to game for exploration.
sadly yes. The performance problems on PC alone was bad enough, the gameplay loop they had was even worse. Ultimately they simply couldn't make most of their planets interesting and unique enough (especially in the starting areas). Everything was so bland and washed out without any detail so everything ended up looking similar only with different colors. oh well. At least now we have Astroneer. Not exactly an exploration game but it does No Man's Sky survival gameplay a LOT better.

Minecraft is most fun if you're on a small friendly survival server, but it's hard to get a good community on a server, since the community of the game is terrible.

Ah...playing at 12AM on the 360 back in 2011. Buddy tells me to install a game called Minecraft and I'm thinking "but dude the graphics are shit" (plus i think it was classified as indie and indie games on the 360 were....well hit or miss.) But I installed it and played the tutorial world. Still remember I was eating pizza and just sitting there building the shittiest wooden house asking my dad if i could buy it. I miss that. I've rediscovered Minecraft in a way because of a new friend of mine and she loves it so we play the shit out of it. And Minecraft is still fun. 8 years of playing Minecraft...and I along with millions of others who have been playing for longer, are still having fun. Minecraft will never die. Maybe get less popular. But it will never die. It has gone down as one of the greatest games ever made next to...fuckin Witcher 3, doom 93, halo CE, etc. Which is funny to think about but hey...just proves you don't need billions of dollars to make a game franchise. Just one good idea and a bit of passion. (Minecraft now is...a bit more about money but meh the core idea is still there lol)
Do something on Terraria. It is an absolutely fantastic game that is misunderstood by many. It's too often compared to Minecraft for some reason, likely because they start out somewhat similarly.
***** Terraria is fantastic, you have tons of bosses, thousands of unique items, dozens of armor and weapons sets, great replayability, world variation, etc etc etc. You probably haven't played it for more than three seconds anyway.

I think that two massive contributors to Minecraft’s success are its open alpha and beta getting frequent and substantive updates, as well as extreme moddability. Sean Sang Ah right haha :D I was also quite young when I first played it but my older brother taught me about the game so I understood everything. I remember playing it for hours and hours, only to die because I ran out of fuel :p

*LAUGHS IN MOD*
It bothers me how he is playing on xbox
he was on PC and also he is XBOXahoy
Your jimmies easily rustled, then.
+KoalaKrisp1 I just imagine you sitting at your desk getting really stressed out with veins popping in your forehead, breathing all heavy like "*breath* *breath* he's *breath* using *breath* an *breath* Xbox"
+KoalaKrisp1 #PCMASTERRACE
how he's playing on an Xbox... with an Xbox control pad. I thought that would be obvious
Just discovered you an hour ago and now I'm on the 3rd video of yours. Really well made.
Dude the music at the beginning almost made me cry it's so beautiful
Why is this still in my recommend it's been like 2 months
some things, will never go away ^^
Now Minecraft is the n1 most sold game in game history lmao
after tetris
@@JonSpeedArts nope, it actually overcame Tetris in the number of sold copies.
This was released years ago, so Minecraft wasn't so big back in the day.
But now, our boy has grown so much.
Dafaack - nice planet name at elite :D 8:28
I like videos like this for the reasons like: telling us more about the game that most would only know if we put a lot of time too it, and telling us why or how it was made.
0:30 I love how he said that in a deep voice and exaggeration "get wood" 😂😂😂
I didn't recognize Runescape one bit, I guess that's the most recent version.
yeah, it looks nothing like it used to when i played :|
Correct, this was Runescape 3, and he was playing the brand new tutorial - Ashdale. Btw Stu, How did you find Runescape?
Is that what Runescape looks like today? Damn Jagex, you guys have done a lot.
It sucks.
Agreed.
DumbassPatrolHD Disagreed
RUclips recommendation:

Not quite.... I remember watching this back then.
Wow such original comment
This video may be 3 years old, but its still as cool as ever.
What about Starflight (1986?)
Mining on procedurally generated worlds was an essential (and surprisingly addictive) aspect of that game.
Dear god, I didn't even recognize Runescape at 11:06
What has Jagex done...
around 2007 ish it was the best
I still play Runescape and I don't even recognize it.
it now has 2 versions. the classic also exists
5:45 When you mentioned mining I thought about Motherload! Such an incredible but simple game! :D
I actually remember playing the game when I was very young. But at the time I couldn't understand the game and it's controls so I gave up after a couple of hours :P
Sean Sang Ah right haha :D I was also quite young when I first played it but my older brother taught me about the game so I understood everything. I remember playing it for hours and hours, only to die because I ran out of fuel :p
PraetorianPCs I had trouble accessing the upgrades initially, and after I did I wasn't a very good resource manager and I never had enough fuel
and now there are 105 million copies sold...
This was an excellent presentation of Minecraft. I do wish you had mentioned the vibrant modding scene and server plugins and the role that they played and continue to play on the games development and years of success. Minecraft, and specifically modded Minecraft is my absolute favorite game and I really enjoyed this analysis of it's origins. Thank you.
five years from now and its still on top
now thats epic
11:19 aah, RuneScape...the game which started it all for me when it comes to MMOs...heheh, it's also thanks to this game that got me my nickname ^w^...brings back ALOT of memories.
Now it’s the best selling of all time.
Still a beautiful game.
..........
WAIT A SECOND! I saw this video like 3 years ago and subscribed, but I just found your channel and subscribed today.
THANKS FOR ACTING LIKE YOU KNOW ME BETTER THAN I KNOW MYSELF, RUclips.

Whys this still being recommended in 2019? I get it the game will never die😳
Ahoy often gets blessed by the RUclips algorithm because his content is exceptional.
Man... I love Ahoy. Seriously, great channel.
Part of my youtube hall of fame 👌🏻
“With 14,000,000 copies sold, Minecraft is now the 3rd best selling PC game of all time” Oh how the times have changed haha
