Never underestimate just how badly established manufacturers will phone-in the designs of their new products. Mr. Glock was the only one in the competition who actually _tried_ to design a new handgun.

When it was 1st released, the Glock had no issue but the M9 or the 92 at that time had a catastrophic failure and that's the slide could be easily dislodged when you just grab the slide, push it slightly back and then yank it forwards and the whole barrel assembly and the slide could come out. This raised some form of concern for police force that had gotten it and it became a big hoohah in the gun community and Beretta had to call in many of their pistols just to fix the issue.

And even if I got one, I would go to prison if I would use the gun for home defense. I think of should be easier to buy a gun in germany.

One of the best machine-guns ever, the MG-42, which is still used as the MG-3, was designed by someone who never designed guns before. Its believed he was succesfull because he was completly "free of though" and not influenced by gun-smithing dogma. He just designed what he believed was best
