im sorry, but actual experience is to the contrary, the 1911 inspired many guys like the sig 226, but while these evolved and improved, the 1911 was left behind. While it was reliable at the time, it has been surpassed by superior designs. That being said my 1911 is by far my favorite gun to shoot despite having a limited magazine, abeing unreliable, a pain to disassemble and clean.
The original 1911 might be obsolete these days, but the design itself has been kept up to date. The M45A1 CQBP is still the primary service pistol of the USMC's special operations units. It's still a 1911 at its core, just built to modern standards and requirements. Even the M1991, which is the current "pure" 1911 being offered by Colt AFAIK, is a solid and reliable piece.
John Browning passed away 96 years ago, and we still use his firearms. Seriously, even though the 1911 might be used on a smaller scale, the m2 browning machine gun is still heavily used globally. What a legacy
It is more obsolescent. It still does its job, but if you were going to war, it would be way down the list of guns you would want to take. It is just too big and heavy and complex for what it does.

Sam Beatty It is difficult to objectively prove reliability of one firearm over another and unless you have extremely concise criteria for your tests results will be inconsistent at best. For example I have a Colt 1911 that was made in July 1917, I have personally put over seven thousand rounds through it shooting as much as 500 rounds in a single sitting. I have never experienced any failures to feed extract or eject. It has shot every type of ammunition I have put through it from match to cheap blazers. The pistol operates clean dirty wet dry cold hot. I cannot say this for any other firearm I own.
you have different experiences than me. I have a custom kimber 1911and while it is an amazing pistol, I have to use high-grade ammo and clean it after every trip to the range. Even earlier today I had it fail to go into battery 5 times. I then switched to a sig p226 which has never jammed, and continued shooting. In my experience guns like the sig have taken the core of john brownings design and improved uppon it. I can dissassemble the pistol in 3 seconds, and because it has fewer moving parts, it is generally more reliable. Again, it is very similar to the 1911, but over a century of improvements in design have produced many superior guns. I would mention the glock, but everyone knows that those things are indestructable, but I don't like the ffel of striker-fires.

The M9 us beggining to be considered a boomer gun too. And honestly if there's any pistol that deserves to be the 1911 successor it's the M9. The real bad taste lies on the Glock.
As a Brit who’d never shot a gun in his whole life, this was my cherry popping moment at a shooting range in Las Vegas. Shooting a 1911 was my first gun, and it was glorious. I remember being quite enamoured by the beauty in it’s simplicity. It was a joy to shoot, and I can see why so many armed forces have continued to use it throughout the years. Like the AK-47, the appeal is in the fact that a child could shoot it...it’s simplicity itself.
@BradynLee09 Oh my dear boy, you couldn’t be more mistaken! I am most certainly a man of this day and age and the M1911 is a bloody fine piece of craftsmanship that I was absolutely chuffed to fire! My goodness, I’m slightly flabbergasted that you’d think I was anything but a full blown Brit! Fake?! Fake?! I’ll show you fake you little ragamuffin!

Eh, as influential as it is in the world of firearms designs, admittedly it has fewer appearances in media compared to the 1911. Not to say that footage for it would be scarce, but as I said before, the 1911 has a much bigger presence in pop culture

Agreed. I love how easy it is to shoot because of its weight. I hate how small 9mm hand guns almost want to fly out of your hands because of how light they are.
It's not an opinion, but objective fact that the 1911 has a lighter crisper break than all other major semi-autos sold and in use today. Just by virtue of the simplicity of the design.
Devlin Jones Have you ever shot anything outside of a video game? I have to ask that because 90% of the comments on these videos are from keyboard warriors. "Just by virtue of the simplicity of the design." By that logic, the Mosin Nagant should have a trigger that feels like virgin pussy, but it doesn't.
Mosin-Nagants being sold today are at a minimum least 70 year old surplus, made by peasants for peasants. Of course it feels like shit. The 1911s' trigger does nothing but push back slightly and takes the spring tension off of the bottom of the sear. Though not directly analogous is comparable to bolt action trigger mechanisms. In contrast striker fired pistols like the glock and double-action capable hammer fired pistols like the M9 and Sig sauer rely on an arm attached to the trigger to actuate the sear and release their hammer/striker, account for the relative mushiness of the trigger pull and longer reset times. In summary, the 1911 has the best trigger of any contemporary pistol, assuming quality parts. The Mosin wouldn't be bad either, if it wasn't ancient commie shit.
Its really crazy how the 1911 is STILL in use. I mean, practically every other weapon of its age is now obsolete, but the 1911 keeps on chugging as a military service pistol. The only other weapon that old that I can think of that’s still in service is the M2 machine gun, which John M Browning ALSO made.
The M1911 is here to stay and it wouldn't surprise me if the M1911 remains in production in the next century. Although i doubt that i'll be around to see the 200th Anniversary of the M1911. At least my children's children will be around to see the 200th Anniversary of the M1911 like i got to see the 100th Anniversary of the M1911. I wonder if my great grandfather ever thought that the M1911 would become an American icon and a timeless weapon
Don't forget about the other gun Browning made that refuses to die. Ma Deuce! The beautiful M2 50. Cal Machine Gun. Based off of the M1919 but made to be the Heavy Machine gun variant. Unlike the 1911, this one is still in service!
Ah yes the 50. Cal MG, the standard in put holes in everything. It may not be the fastest firing heavy MG, but damn it if your enemy wont feel safe in the firing zone of one of those beasts.
The feeding ramp is polished to a mirror sheen. The slide's been reinforced, and the interlock with the frame is tightened for added precision. The sight system is original, too. The thumb safety is extended to make it easier on the finger. A long-type trigger with nonslip grooves. A ring hammer. The base of the trigger guard's been filed down for a higher grip. And not only that, nearly every part of this gun has been expertly crafted and customized.
Some say this weapon is outdated, but I always tell them the same thing. " It's not outdated, it's old school and proud. It will only become "outdated" when we have laser weaponry and even then, it's still gonna go on strong. "
weird how most american guns are always called futuristic or were ahead of their time the m16 was seen as a weapon of the future that we would see 100 years later in time, but we had the gun now and the m1911 is an old gun, but it's as useful as a modern day glock, and yet, it was made a century before
As someone who concealed carried a 1911 for almost a decade, I can say, with complete confidence, that this video is spot on. This pistol simply forgot to become obsolete. Or maybe, it decided it, like liberty, would never be obsolete.
I still have the Light Shining in Darkness from the 1st dlc in New Vegas, which was essentially a suped up version of the 1911. I've never cared too much for weapon history and usually toss most weapons into my vault for safe keeping in the game, but this makes me want to hold onto it even moreso now

Little Fav The A1 actually fixed most of the issues that were experienced in the first gen rifles. Army went behind the DODs back to get them properly prepped.
A century after the military adopted the first models and their still using them(even if it is only in small numbers). It’s a real gem of an automatic pistol.
I was shooting my own 1911 the other day, thought I’d share some funny stories. When I was shooting the first expended brass flew into my eye (thank god for eye pro) then the second went into my dad standing next to me and the third flew and hit my grandfather standing next to him. Then the same day when I was shooting the bottom of the magazine crapped out and everything spilled out, spring rounds and all. So the bottom of the mag exploded. I have no doubt this is because the 1911 is built like a tank so instead of just exploding itself like other guns it redirected the force into the one weak point, the decades old magazine.
Danox94 came to the comments to talk about this game. I still play it now and then. Highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a badass WWII single player experience.
I never get tired of watching this video. It feels like a church sermon. I take a pilgrimage to RUclips in search of it and listen to the gospel that it preaches.
modern hi-end 1911s are notorious for being unreliable. and old rattly war time production 1911s are not super accurate nor designed with longevity in mind.
@@Sujamma_Enjoyer Yes its generalization and there are few exceptions, but 500-700 Rick island and Taurus 1911 are garbage. While for the same price you can get a modern handgun that will last you a lifetime. Kimber production quality has decreased in the last decade or so. Wilson Combat, Dan Wesson and Night hawks are nicer custom guns, but they cost a fortune. And unless you are collecting firearms or something there are no advantages on spending 4000 dollars for a 100 year old design firearm.
"A century of service, and ready for a hundred years more." That line carries even more weight, when you consider how weird mankind's advancement curve is. One of our earliest innovations was alcohol, and we discovered it by accident when we were pickling our fruits for winter storage. Many of our advancements were due to dumb luck or happenstance, but very few were the deliberate work of genius that met and exceeded all the demands of the era it was designed in, helped inspire branching innovations, and are just as good now as they were a century prior. We go through many upgrades in a very short timeframe, so it's very odd to see something like the M1911 still be this awesome and relevant even to this day.

I find it remarkable how even more than 100 years, this pistol not only remained pupolar and still in some government use... But it also shows how less of a progress modern pistols have gained over the years. The M1911 is absolutely timeless, that theres barely any difference compared to more modern pistols in sort of speak. The gun isn't even considered obsolete, its insane. John Browning currently the only man I could think of, that his weapons were used for more than decades and this one more than a century... And still are heavily used nowadays.

M1911 : *laughs in 45.ACP*
It sucks balls you and I can’t even own the real thing in this country. Americans laugh at us, you know I blame Scotland.
You have to be content with a blowback version sadly, unless you migrate to the US.
Was it battlefield Vegas? That place is the best.
"Like the Ak-47, the appeal is in the fact that a child could shoot it, and they do" - A smart fellow.

Browning Hi-power next.
the forgotten little sister of the M1911 and the first pistol to have a double stack magazine.
Uh...while, yes, the Browning Hi-Power was the first to have a true double column magazine, there are guns like the Mauser C96 that also technically had a double stack magazine, and the C96 was made way before the Hi-Power...
Also, RIP the Hi-Power. Production for it was stopped in 2017.
Eh, as influential as it is in the world of firearms designs, admittedly it has fewer appearances in media compared to the 1911. Not to say that footage for it would be scarce, but as I said before, the 1911 has a much bigger presence in pop culture
The Savage 1907 was the first pistol to use a double stack detachable magazine.

From personal experience, no semi auto handgun shoots as crisp and well as a quality 1911 to this day.
Opinions are like...
"Just by virtue of the simplicity of the design."
By that logic, the Mosin Nagant should have a trigger that feels like virgin pussy, but it doesn't.
In contrast striker fired pistols like the glock and double-action capable hammer fired pistols like the M9 and Sig sauer rely on an arm attached to the trigger to actuate the sear and release their hammer/striker,
account for the relative mushiness of the trigger pull and longer reset times.

The feeding ramp is polished to a mirror sheen. The slide's been reinforced, and the interlock with the frame is tightened for added precision. The sight system is original, too.

That line carries even more weight, when you consider how weird mankind's advancement curve is.
