IDAHO FALLS - The boots of a young man missing for nearly two weeks have been found behind a dirt pile on his property but there’s still no sign of 19-year-old Dylan Rounds.
Rounds attended Rigby High School and began farming grain a few years ago in the desert town of Lucin, Utah near the Utah/Nevada border. He lives by himself in a camp trailer on a remote piece of land and family members last heard from him when he called his grandmother the morning of Saturday, May 28.
RELATED | Family offering $20,000 reward for man who disappeared after ‘weird run-in’ with stranger
“He said he couldn’t talk. He had to get his grain truck in the shed because he had seed in it,” Candice Cooley, Rounds’ mother, tells EastIdahoNews.com. “He was planting and he couldn’t get his seed wet.”
Rounds’ boots, truck, wallet and phone
Nobody heard from Rounds over the weekend and by Monday, May 30, his family became concerned and went to the farm. They called police and Box Elder County Search and Rescue when Rounds was not there. Crews arrived and began scouring the property.
“Within the first hour and a half, they found his boots. From where his grain truck was parked, his boots were about 100 yards south behind a pile of dirt just casually tossed out,” Cooley says. “He was very particular about his boots. He wears a pair and it’s always the same pair. When they wear out, he goes and buys exactly the same boots.”
The boots did not look faded and had dirt on them. Cooley says detectives told her there was a spot of blood on the footwear and they would be sent to a lab for testing but late last week, she says the family was informed that police were hanging on to the boots in case cadaver dogs needed them for a scent.
Another suspicious discovery was there were no tire tracks in the dirt leading to or from Rounds’ red pickup truck, Cooley says. The weekend he disappeared, it was raining in Lucin so had he left and come back, there would have been markings in the ground. But Cooley also says it appears the truck was pressured washed as it was noticeably clean.
“There is no mud on the tires, there’s no mud on the rims but the wheel wells are full of mud like they’ve been driven in the rain,” Cooley explains. “It’s been cleaned except the wheel wells … And when I got in the pickup…the seat was scooted up to the point I didn’t even have to move it to drive. I’m 4’11”, Dylan is 5’11” and every time I’ve ever gotten in Dylan’s pickup, I can’t reach the pedals.”
Cooley also noticed the truck was in 4-wheel drive but she and everyone else in the family knew 4-wheel drive had not been working since Rounds got a new transmission transfer case several months ago. He often complained about not being able to use the feature and having to truck his truck without it.
Rounds’ wallet and phone are missing but everything else appears normal at the farm. Cooley says police were able to get a ping on the phone that was at or within 15 miles of his property on Saturday at 3:41 p.m.
    Nevada and what’s next
Rounds often visited Montello, Nevada, which is 26 miles from Lucin, and it’s the last place someone physically saw him.
“He’d go into the bar in Montello and meet up with friends but they never came out (to Lucin) with him. There’s no reason to come out there because there’s nothing there,” Cooley says. “We don’t even know if he made it back to Utah (that Saturday).”

This woman knows her stuff. I mean, really, really knows what she's talking about: from forensics, to trucks, the politics of (probably crooked) cops, desert geology, farming, tech, and way beyond. She's level-headed, calm and doesn't seem to bullsh*t herself. If they won't help her the least -- and I mean very least -- they can do for her is let her solve this on her own. Then they need to give her total control of her jurisdiction. And then she needs to come and be MY mom.
I wish I had any info at all to give her - she's the type of person that just needs one good clue and she'll have figured it out yesterday. No matter how small, people, if you know ANYTHING get in contact with her! She'll do the rest.💜

Also, people (adults) go missing all the time by choice and if there's not enough evidence to show foul play then the cops don't spend all their time and resources looking for 1 person, especially in a small community. Yes for sure! Nate is not like any other news guy I've ever seen interview someone- especially a grieved mother (even tho she's strong with the ability to be incredibly level headed about everything right now)
He's truly concerned and you can tell that he's really really listening to Dylan's mother, absorbing her words and the situation with concerned intrest... and allowing her to speak without interrupting her! So many (most) news journalists that deal with serious public intrest stories are so fake and they will speak
*at* the person while cutting the person off constantly.
Yes, Nate is one of a kind!
      Peace and blessings -
PS: I hate to say this but everything so far points to Dylan's disappearance as one that David Paulides would write about in his Missing 411
cases. Just very high strangeness all over the disappearance of this boy.

What are they trying so hard to keep covered up?

    • @scootermom1791
      @scootermom1791 Год назад +3

@@Jane.Doe. I'm not sure law enforcement is necessarily trying to cover it up. LE assigned to cover rural areas have very few resources to handle situations like this and have to get funding approval to call in extra resources for investigations. I have to wonder if the officers assigned in this area have even dealt with a missing person's case like this before. They didn't treat it as a potential crime scene and made so many obvious mistakes that most people with a basic knowledge of criminal investigations wouldn't make. They probably mistakingly assumed that Dylan took off on his own accord and would return at some point. However, what harm would it have done to put up police tape and keep people from the area while trying to determine what happened?
I think police everywhere should treat suspicious missing person's cases as potential crime scenes even if they believe the person might have left voluntarily. It's more harmful in the long run to NOT treat it like a crime scene and later discover that it was than to just treat it like a crime scene and find out later that it wasn't. I heard state police and the FBI are working the investigation now (the extra resources I mentioned). I truly hope they can give this family the answers they are looking for.

Prayers to you & his family... I know kinda what your going through . i lost a 17 yr old Nephew when local sheriff's dept covered up his murderers name... That truck should have been processed for evidence, fingerprints, fibers etc.. especially since it appears that someone else may have been driving it. If it was pressure washed to get rid of evidence on the outside, it was probably wiped on the inside put police can still find minute pieces of evidence on the inside of a vehicle even if it has been 'wiped clean'.
That truck should not have been touched, broken into, driven etc... I know she means well but she should not have driven that vehicle or allowed anyone access to it and the police should have treated the truck as part of a possible crime scene. So many times, evidence of a homicide or violent crime is found in the vehicle.
The boots being found tossed on the ground is ominous. That alone is grounds for the police to take this case very seriously.
Also, just because her son did give this Chase guy a ride does NOT mean that there is no motivation for Chase to have harmed him.
He is in custody on unrelated charges so has been in trouble with the law. Not saying Chase is responsible but he still needs to be looked at very seriously. Where was he during the period that her son went missing? does he have a solid alibi for that time period that can be corroborated by other people?
Her son's encounter with Chase was the one out of the ordinary and unusual thing that happened before her son went missing.
I hope they find him but it does not look good. In all likelihood he is no longer alive and has been murdered but that cannot be assumed to be the case yet. At the very least he looks to have been taken against his will, his boots being found as they were speaks volumes. Poor kid.

Also when that guy was constantly calling the police station. And she said they weren’t calling him back. And then he called her and she called him back , she should’ve never done that.
What man or what person if they’re being looked at in a missing persons case, is gonna just keep calling the police and calling the police and calling the police and then calling the mother of the victim.
The police were probably stunned that he kept calling. They were probably trying to see every time he called like, was his voice different, did he seem shaky or something like that. More nervous sounding, more agitated because they weren’t calling him back.
I mean she doesn’t know why they weren’t calling him back maybe that’s why they weren’t calling him back , because they were probably losing your mind because he kept calling so much.
And like she kind of doesn’t make sense a little bit. I understand that that’s her son but you can’t say I don’t know this man I have no idea about him I don’t know anything about him, and then turn around and say yeah well we check them off our list because in our eyes you know the timeline didn’t match up.
How the hell do you know he’s truth.
You can’t say that you think he’s telling the truth when you just said that you don’t even know him.
Here’s another thing, how did that man end up out there with no shoes cut up scratched bleeding, how did that happen. So I’m thinking so did somebody abuse this man and kind of rough them up a little bit take your shoes so we couldn’t make it back to town and you know sending him a message you better keep your mouth shut. So for some reason did they come back and find Dylan because maybe this guy told Dylan something you see what I’m saying. The guy just didn’t drop out of the sky and land in the middle of the desert. I mean we don’t even know How or why he was out there in the middle of the desert with no shoes on. I don’t know about anybody else but the last place you wanna be is that in the middle of the desert with no shoes on. I mean if Dylan gave him a ride and he had no shoes on and it was raining wouldn’t there have been mud or something in his truck or is that a different day

My boys are both different one always calls me and the youngest of my boys never calls me but I know he's not much of a social person only some friends who I know, hes always dedicated to his sports, school and work. My other son has tons of friends but he only has a certain crowd he hangs with so I know who to call when he doesn't call. Just know your kids where they are, what they do, who they know, even when they are adults. I pray and hope she finds her son.

Move up the food chain & continue. Is this sherif voted into office? Campaigne against him. If appointed, by whom & bug him. Do background checks on these people. Hire a PI. I have a son he’s 25 now.
Till this day I don’t care and I tell him I don’t care. I mean I don’t call him constantly , I don’t bug him constantly nothing like that but when I know he’s going out of town with his friends or his girlfriend because he always calls me when he is.
      We we chitchat !
Gives me the details. ! Before I hang up, he goes mom I know .
Yeah and I don’t care . I am going to say again.
Be attentive to your surroundings, all the time and watch what and who is around around you.
Don’t let her go to the bathroom by her self and you don’t go to the bathroom by yourself. If you’re at a concert or wherever , if you gotta go to the bathroom, she gets up with you and waits outside the bathroom door and the same with her .
He rolls his eyes , lol, and goes mom , did you just really say that?
I would never let her walk to the bathroom by herself . Especially at a concert .
I said you know what I’m saying but I told him the same thing when he’s with his friends. Doesn’t matter I know you’re 25 he’s in good shape , he works out blah blah blah that doesn’t mean that you can’t be taken by three guys , just because they saw you pull up in a nice truck and you’re wearing a nice pair of boots and nice clothes , they might think you’re rich .
Bed not rich. But he has nice clothes that he keeps a nice for certain occasions that’s it.
He’s not poor , but he’s not rich.
I said you don’t understand people look at certain things to try to determine if you’re gonna be worth the trouble.
      But here’s a good thing.
And I don’t ask him to do it with me and it doesn’t bother me , that he doesn’t do this with me but him and his friends and his girlfriend and his friends girlfriends, all share their location.
There is not at any given time that five of his friends don’t know where he is and vice versa. They all know we’re each other is at all times.
And I really feel comfortable knowing that.
And don’t feel bad for constantly being on him because it was just maybe three weeks ago he had to take his girlfriend somewhere that was 14 hours away and they each had to drive a separate vehicle because she had to go away for a little bit for work so she had to pack stuff up but she had to bring her car too so they couldn’t drive together but she was following him. Well he had to go and he stopped at a gas station, I don’t know if it was in Arkansas or TX where it was but anyway he said the town looks kind of really desolate you know.
Well guess what when he got into the gas station with her and she’s a very pretty girl, he said hey can I use the bathroom and they were like no man is closed. Jimmy goes what do you mean you have a sign up this is the bathroom and( was like four other guys and him and his girlfriend)
. And he was like you know come on man let me use the bathroom, what’s the big deal?
Why do you have a sign up that says you can use the bathroom if you’re not gonna let people use the bathroom?
      No answer .
He asked if it was because I’m white ? No dude man you just can’t use the bathroom.
So then all of a sudden one of them got up and said hey you got a money.
He said yeah I got some money he said and you're not getting it.
So the guy got up and started walking towards him and he just moved his hand and he has a license to carry. Even though he was in another state, I think, NO he wasn't. He was right there on the border, but he didn’t care he said I didn’t care and he said now he said if you think it’s worth it to try to get five -ten dollars out of my wallet he said go ahead.
But I’m not giving it to you and they were staring at his girlfriend like really bad. He said she was kind of trying to hide behind him and they were scaring her. Staring at her and whispering to each other.
He goes so what’s gonna be. He goes cause I don’t care he said I’m not starting to trouble you are.
He said I took criminal justice in college to become a cop .
He said so I know the law. He said he go ahead. I don't have a record ….can you say the same? Me and her able to verify where and why we are on this trip ;which would validate up stopping here to use the bathroom. Me, Her, and 4 of you. Who do you think they are going to believe
And they were like well dude we don’t want no trouble
      He said really?
It sure didn’t seem like you didn’t want any trouble to me.
      Seems like you want trouble.
They said no we don’t want any trouble . So he turned around and started walking away and they said well you can use the bathroom !
He turned around and said, Oh really? I can!
Do I look like a fing idiot?
He took out his wallet and threw 5 dollars down on the floor.
He said there you go !
He said if you need it that bad there it is . He said I wouldn’t have had a problem giving you $10 if you really needed it and would have acted decent. But you didn’t.
He said I have plenty of black friends, they don’t act this way, kinda disappointing because I am not that guy . I don’t wanna use your #%%^*%#^ bathroom !
Seems to be a 200 year old issue that , I nor my family ever had anything to do with .
and my family isn’t that family either.
He said one of the guys followed him out and apologized.
He said apology accepted and shook his hand.
When he stopped by to pick up his dog and told me, he said Mom, I am not gonna lie, I was scared. 4 of them one of me?
But I had no choice . Had to stand up or I was toast!!

From how You told this your son sounds like An asshole and I wont say what I think about you hopefully youre not what I think

This reminds me of the case of Daniel Robinson the young geologist who went missing on 23 June 2021 in Arizona and his abandoned truck and clothes were found . His father has spent the last year looking for him as authorities have done very little . I hope this amazing mum finds her son Dylan . Good to see Nate on this . His stellar work on the vallow/daybell case was outstanding!

That's exactly what I was thinking too. Both of these cases are heartbreaking & scary. I have 2 sons 25 & 26 & I hope I never have to go through this. Praying their both found.

So agree wth what you say about Nate.
I love in a very distant country and have very high regard for Nate. He is an extraordinary listener. More than his listening skills, he is a person who very genuinely cares about others. Remarkable given the time in which we live...
MAY DYLAN BE FOUND SOON ✝️
THANK YOU NATE FOR CARING 🧡🧡🧡

This is what a real mom is supposed to do. My 16-year-old boy was murdered July 5th 2020. My heart goes out to the mom and the rest of the family.
