    The current sign up bonus when using a referral is 45k points! If you’d like a referral, contact me at: charlesontravelsenquiries@gmail.com

    Update: I asked about cancelling the card via the Amex web chat in the app and was immediately offered 35k points retention bonus. Decided to keep the card as the combination of the dining credits, other credits and these points make it worth it for me

    Would def like to see a comparison of what extra benefit I’m getting by owning a platinum over the gold. And is that worth the extra money?

    It’s worth it if you use a lot especially with proximity pass and get a supplementary membership with their own lounge access. Plus really good hotel access with upgrades, enjoy it.

    informative video, didnt know about the calendar year caveat. Surely this would mean best time to signup is around mar- may time , allows perks to be redeemed twice in the year before it resets in January, then you can use again and cancel if needbe

    Nice to see a UK video on this…😊 Be good to explain how to use the dining credit etc, I have the card but have a different offer of £200 hotel credit so not sure if I receive the dining also?

    • @charlesontravels
      @charlesontravels  8 месяцев назад

      If you have the UK platinum you should get the dining credit. Have a look in the offers section of the app. It should show as Local Dining Platinum Benefit and Abroad Dining Platinum Benefit. Clicking into the offer should take you to a link to find participating restaurants. All you need to do is use your platinum card at those restaurants and you’ll get up to £150 Cashback per year in the UK and £150 cashback per year overseas

    Thanks for the tips. Not sure it’s worth me applying until November as that’s the earliest I can get a welcome bonus. However the virgin voyages status intrigues me as I have a cruise booked with them in June but I’ll be paying for it on my Barclays avios. If I did decide to pay for the am ex platinum do you go about getting the virgin voyages status?

    • @charlesontravels
      @charlesontravels  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, I’ve had a look into it and it seems like Virgin Voyages aren’t currently offering their status match at the moment. Seems to have been a limited time thing. Maybe they’ll be bringing something back before June, but not looking like it at the moment, so you’re probably best off waiting until November for the sign up bonus unless you can get significant value from the other benefits between now and then. Hope you enjoy the cruise! My next one with Virgin is in May and I can’t wait. Will definitely be putting out some videos of the experience

    What if I am travelling from the UK to the USA and making purchases there. Will there still be transactions fees?
    I would like lounge access and zero transaction fees in the USA. Is this available on the Amex platinum

    • @charlesontravels
      @charlesontravels  11 дней назад +1

      Yes, unfortunately there are non-sterling transaction fees on overseas purchases. It will get you lounge access in the USA though

    If i want to use the Hotel credits, i need to make that hotel booking on Amex website? and how do i know which restaurants accept the Dining Credit?

    • @charlesontravels
      @charlesontravels  3 месяца назад

      Yes, if you’re using Amex travel credit this has to be booked through the Amex travel portal. Can be done via the Amex website or a link in the app. The current sign up bonus gives a £400 Amex travel credit. For the dining credit, if you look up Amex Platinum dining credit, there’s a page on the Amex website where you can enter the location and it will give you a list of available restaurants for the offer

      @@shortpreviewsDon’t think it’ll be far off that. Possibly a bit more. I only experience is with using it for hotel bookings and the price was about the same as other hotel booking websites

    Been enjoying the videos👍
    Just to clarify, with regards to using the benefits twice in a year, do you mean the dining credits?
    It was my I understanding you only get £150 home and £150 abroad once each per 12 months. Are you saying they refresh in January?
    I hope not as I didn’t use mine last year

    • @charlesontravels
      @charlesontravels  9 месяцев назад

      Thanks very much! Yes the dining credits refresh in January and the Harvey Nichols credit refreshes in January and July, so unfortunately if you didn’t use them in 2023 you’ve missed out on them. It’ll just be the 2024 credits now

    • @rsfan9296
      @rsfan9296 9 месяцев назад

      @@charlesontravels I knew the Harvey Nichols ones were £50 each 6 months but didn’t know the dining ones were also.
      I think I took the platinum in August or something. So would I have had £150 home, £150 abroad to spend before January then the same from now till July?
      It’s my first year with the platinum so still trying to figure it out.

    • @charlesontravels
      @charlesontravels  9 месяцев назад +1

      For the dining ones, if you took the card in August, you would have had £150 at home and £150 abroad to use before the end of December. Then you would have another £150 at home and £150 abroad to use any time from 1st Jan up until the end of 2024. When you sign up for the card doesn’t impact when you get the dining credits, it’s just £150 at home and £150 abroad per calendar year. Hope that makes sense!

    Do you get the welcome bonus if you already hold a BA Amex card?

    • @charlesontravels
      @charlesontravels  8 месяцев назад

      Yes you still qualify for the sign up bonus if you already hold a BA Amex. The only Amex cards that would disqualify you from getting the bonus are any Amex cards that you’ve held in the last 24 months that earn membership reward points e.g. the gold card. I have the BA premium plus Amex and still got the platinum bonus when I signed up
