    Do you have the American Express Platinum card? What are the top perks and benefits of the card that you use most?
    CORRECTION: 2:28 should be an American Express PERSONAL card

      I used to have the Platinum card but after being told there was no retention offer for me this year, I opted to not keep for 2024. Instead I got the Hilton Aspire card for 2024. Platinum definitely had its perks but it was not enough to justify the cost plus additional card member and I was going out of my way to make it work.

      @@BTUCK03 Yeah agreed, the target audience who can find good value from the card is narrowing

    This video is very much appreciated. I almost bit on a 150,000 platinum offer, but I've never had a gold amex, so u think I'll wait.

    I have the Schwab Platinum and I definitely get value which more than justify the AF. I get a total of $940 in value every year..This is a card that will stick around for a while. Great vid Kevin💥

    Great review! Super informative. But I think I'd better look at the Gold card option first. I am looking between this and Sapphire reserve. I have preferred now. Lounge accommodations don't seem very good at LAX (right now).

      100% look at the gold option first! With not-so-recent changes, you won't qualify for the Gold welcome bonus if you've had the Platinum card

    Love to see how much value you've gotten from the Plat over the years Kevin! Even though $3500 in 5 years is a lot, it doesn't really matter what an annual fee is, as long as you get more than the fee in value every year. Totally understand in your case with your multi-week international trip, that some things like the Hotel Credit or Airline Fee Credit weren't able to be maximized. However, things change year-year, and so it's why it's always a great idea to reevaluate every year. That's awesome that you've been able to get 2 Retention Offers throughout the years too, and are able to take advantage of lowering the effective fee with Corporate Cards as well. Great video as always Kevin!

      Thanks Matt! Definitely lots of factors that I'd say are unique to my situation that allow me to keep getting value from this card year after year! Honestly don't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon!

    My understanding was that you only get the 5x points on flights and hotels IF you order through Amex. Ordering the flight through the airline directly gets your those extra points?

    • @KevinYang
      @KevinYang  7 месяцев назад +1

      For the flights booked direct with airlines, yes! Quoting the product page: "Booked directly with airlines or through American Express Travel"

    • @odhinn9
      @odhinn9 7 месяцев назад

      Yes, this goes for both AMEX gold and platinum, except gold is 3x points instead of the 5x with platinum. You can order directly through the airline or through AMEX Travel to net those points.

    Is it possible to go from Blue Cash Preferred to Gold to Platinum and get welcome bonuses each time? And do those need to be new cards or upgrades from the previous one?

    • @jonathanelliott1338
      @jonathanelliott1338 3 месяца назад

      Amex is usually pretty tight about sign up bonuses, ie you have to wait quite a bit of time before getting new sign up bonuses if you already got one or two.

    Nice Review Kevin. Its too bad Amex has made it more difficult to get SUBs. I dont have a platinum (any amex for that matter) but I'm always curious on how those who do use/value it. So far I have been able to accumulate enough points each year W/O Amex.

    • @KevinYang
      @KevinYang  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah those SUB changes really messed with my plans.. What kind of redemptions do you try and aim for with the points you have?

    After watching many different credit card RUclipsr videos, I’m starting to come to the conclusion that the platinum card is the best credit card for the value but the ability credit churning the card is turning people off. I don’t think the target market for this card is people that want to get the most points back but is for people who want to add extras on what they already do, like the streaming credit comes in handy, the $200 airfare credit you really need to travel once to get value, and add the $200 hotel credit to knock $200 off that trip.

      That's such a great way to put it! That's definitely how I use it, mainly as a benefits card to enhance my travels outside of the card!

  • @1bluensx

    No it’s not worth it. Not worth the coupon book and coupon book mentality that it has become. I gave it up and jumped over to chase sapphire reserve.

      @muthukumardce no, as long as you're active duty, it will be waived. Some lucky veterans continue to have the fees waived even after getting out because they didn't report it.
