On "My Car Story" we're at the Carlisle Events in Carlisle PA on 7-14-23.
We're looking at a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T in Rallye Red Paint. The car comes with the 426 CI Hemi V8 engine, and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Rindy. Her Husband had this car since 1995. She shares her Husband passed away. She doesn’t drive the car, but likes when her Son Curtis drives it. She and Curtis enjoy rides in this car because when they go for a ride it reminds Rindy of her Husband and Curtis of his Dad.

Awesome Challenger! Very nice to see this car as a survivor that actually gets driven,.despite the fact that it's value is into six figures. Nothing can replace that sound at the rear exhaust. Total intimidation and character. No sanitized EV can convey that.

What beautiful lines this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T has in red! I liked those air intakes on the hood, and the thin and elongated front grille, along with its double headlights, giving it an aggressive appearance. Interesting was the anecdote that Curtis told, about the crazy mistake of the rest of the blue paint in the trunk, haha. A beautiful red interior, such as the seats, doors or dashboard; and all seasoned with that elegant touch that only wood can give. Plus, I liked the roar its V8 Hemi engine produced! Congratulations to its owner, Rindy! Because every time her son drives her late husband's car, it brings back fond memories for both of them; and, why not, somewhere a big smile from her father! Best regards, Lou!

    Goodday Lou,
What a way to end the week on a Friday night before the weekend.
Absolutely fantastic, both chrome mirrors, rallye dash, especially the colour matching rim's with the dog dish caps.
    Delete bumblebee on the rear.
    Conspicuous but deadly.
    Love it.
    What happened to you saying.
" You can put the baby to sleep with that idle "
    That is your classic line.
Love the new ending as well.

@@barrycuda3769 The real gearheads back then left these exactly as they came with 1 or 2 changes. Friend bought a new, yes, Vanishing Point white one. Only thing he did was find some wider steel wheels for the back, have them painted correctly, put the dog dish caps on, and changed all 4 tires to Coopers. They were a soft, well sticking/pavement grabbing tire at that time. Super Mags-with the white letters turned inward.
Vanishing Point, only watched them destroy a Challenger ONCE.

Believe it or not, my father ordered this car from Dodge in 1970. It was purchased new in April 1970 from Glass City Dodge in Toledo Ohio. Very few red on red Challenger RT Hemis were ever produced. I have tried to contact the current owners to purchase this car but I was informed that they were not interested in selling it back to me. My father has since passed away but I’d love to own it, restore it for the memories. That’s my sad but true story…

First time that I can recall seeing an E-body with a red interior. Black or white seem to be the most common. No way they would have built a bright blue car with this interior colour, so I guess the solution was either to re-assign the blue body to a different build, or re-spray it in red and carry on with the build sequence.

For me as non american, the 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 426 Hemi is the king of all muscle cars. What a great looking survivor. Thanks, Lou!

This car has to be up there with the Black Ghost in rarity right?

This is a rare car too. Seems the Black Ghost had a 4 Speed and quite the racing reputation.

Fine car, wonderful story. I had a '73 Charger with that same paint problem, seen 3 others, now 4. Got into some decent arguments about the tag says it's light blue, the red is under three factory stickers. Monday or Friday cars.
Thanks for hunting them down and showing this.

Hi Ray 56, Hmmm, interesting you had that paint issue too. My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou

@@loucostabile The others I seen were at a large dealership that I was directed to when I had concerns about mine. Only 1 of the other cars was associated with them, the other 2 they had pictures of from across the country. Their problem was a customer came in wearing a gun threatening them with giving him his money back or he'd get it through a lawsuit or another way. He accused them of taking a car off the lot and painting it because he wanted a white car and they didn't have one. They showed him the tag, their paperwork, his paperwork where it left the factory as a white car.
These weren't special cars like this Challenger but run of the mill cars, his was a Fury, mine was just a little more than a lot car but only a '73 Charger SE, 3/4 vinyl opera windows, 400 4-bbl, duel exhaust, air, cruise, full power.
The dealership went bust after the next gen took it over but if I ever get to Mo.-which I don't plan on doing-I think the Charger could be sitting in a fence row and I could take pictures of it. It's one of the things I signed over to the future ex before filing for divorce, I don't think it lasted another year with the new guy and it ended up parked, son said it looked like a banana after landing on it's nose.

Why does the door tag production date read 3-72 ?

    • @stephenholland5930
      @stephenholland5930 10 месяцев назад

3-70. The zero with a line through it distinguishes it from the letter O. See the sixth character in the VIN below. It's a zero to signify the model year of 1970.

Lou, I’m sure you’re aware, “Original” is an over used word in the vintage car world, I don’t believe the video specifies if this is original paint to this car, do you know if it is?

Rich, I'm pretty sure this is "the paint" that came with the car, Lou

The owner has to get that tac fixed. Annoying seeing two in the car.

I did the same thing on my Challenger T/A shortly after I got it in high school 45 years ago. I installed an Autometer one though on my steering column. My factory tach worked, but they just weren’t that good. I’d rev the engine, the Autometer needle would jump instantly, the factory one on the IP behind it lagged.
Of course when I concours restored the car 10 years ago, I didn’t put the aftermarket tach back on, but I’m not running the car hard now either like when I was a kid either!

Idk where's the flip top gas cap. I never seen a screw on gas cap on a challenger before least of all an RT HEMI car
