Listened to this again today. Absolute gold top to bottom (no coffee table jokes, please). My sorrow is that now Gilbert has left us before the completion of the filming of Raised Eyebrows. His insane humour will forever live on. My best wishes to Steve!
Forget Gilbert and Sullivan...I want a weekly show with Gilbert and Steve! I already knew Steve Stoliar was a great writer and a nice guy. Never knew he was so damn good at impressions.
Steve's story is astonishing -- a Groucho fan, like millions including me, who sends a simple fan-letter and ends up, incredibly, basically "in charge" of Groucho's whole life. When his book came out, I wouldn't have believed there was anything else to say about Groucho's story, but....holy crap. Could be a good movie, but anyway it is an amazing story.
I've mentioned this before, but Stoliar beats Gilbert on his Groucho imitation. I find Stoliar hilarious as well and such a great impressionist. Still love the fact that Groucho can do John McGiver.
One of my fondest memories is standing in line outside McGaw Hall on the Northwestern campus to see Groucho Marx in person. He'd been invited by Prof. Bergen Evans, who taught at the school and had also done local television. I sat on a dirt floor just 10 feet from him. It smashed all expectations. It was the first "An Evening With Groucho" starting a trend for other celebrities.
For some reason I'm giving my coffee tables extra attention when I'm cleaning. I may've wet the chesterfield listening to this podcast so I have laundry to do as well. Thanks, Steve! Loved hearing about Perelman and Zeppo! Great stories!
This stuff from both guys is podcast gold. Real stories from folks that have been around the greats of comedy. Steve stoliars shemp stuff is priceless as well.
Claude Rains' upper crust accent was not a "put-on" so much as a necessity for anyone who wanted to be an actor. Many other British actors were from the working class and had to change their accents.
A bunch are one Soundcloud, can be listened to or downloaded. There is about 200 but anything earlier has been pulled and is only available for pay on Earwolf and Stitcher.
You are exactly right...Gilbert is so fortunate to have his cohost Frank there with him...Frank is the one who really maked the podcast go...he is so well researched and knows how to lead the guests through anecdote after anecdote, while Gilbert just cackles his insane laugh...the interviews would be twice as good without gilbert there, and we would learn so much more from the guests,,,,
You would think Godfried would have quickly realized that Stoliar's impersonation of Groucho was so far superior than his own, that he would not have used it the rest of the podcast after his first try....and the reference to the so called Danny Thomas gross fetish was maybe funny once, but not 6 more times...it got stupid and over the top...and he keeps interrupting the guests, always trying to get his own shtick in,..if it wasn't for his cohort Frank, skillfully managing the interviews, the podcasts would be worthless...and it is a real shame, because some of the guests they have are very interesting...
Very astute. After listening to a few podcasts now I'd have assumed that anyone would come to that same conclusion, but judging by some of these comments that Gilbert's weak, ill-timed, shoe horned 'jokes' are _amazing._

The dueling impressions are priceless. One of Gilbert's best podcasts.
Gilberts podcast should have millions of views
Bennett Cerf impression! Gold!
Steve Stoliar's impersonations are as good as any I have ever heard, and at 68 I go back a long long way....
Forget Gilbert and Sullivan...I want a weekly show with Gilbert and Steve! I already knew Steve Stoliar was a great writer and a nice guy. Never knew he was so damn good at impressions.
PLEASE, PLEASE , PLEASE , PLEASE MILLION TIMES MORE do a PART 3 steve and gilbert show on groucho ....this is amazing and soooo funny !!!!
Probably my fav of all of Gilbert’s podcasts
One of the Top 3 Podcast's of all-time.
The duet between Steve and Gilbert with their old Grouchos was magical
Almost made me tear up.
Steve is a fantastic storyteller!Gil and Frank's podcasts are the best!
Steve’s Groucho is beyond perfect!!
anyone who can do a Bennet Cerf impression is magical to me ... "are you current appearing on broadddway?"
Steve's "Groucho" is like hearing the man himself.
Steve's story is astonishing -- a Groucho fan, like millions including me, who sends a simple fan-letter and ends up, incredibly, basically "in charge" of Groucho's whole life. Did someone ask you who's impression was better? We dgaf bud

George Quinn wow great memory. What do you mean by it smashed all expectations?
Chris Godla he meant that it was better than he thought it was going to be
Steve is an incredible mimic. Holy smokes!
Those opening impressions were amazing.
For some reason I'm giving my coffee tables extra attention when I'm cleaning. I may've wet the chesterfield listening to this podcast so I have laundry to do as well. Thanks, Steve! Loved hearing about Perelman and Zeppo! Great stories!
Thanks, Christina.....
These two together are f'n awesome.
This stuff from both guys is podcast gold. Real stories from folks that have been around the greats of comedy. Steve stoliars shemp stuff is priceless as well.
First time listening to a Gilbert podcast. Steve is a great storyteller and his impressions are very entertaining
every guest should be forced to do an impression of whoever they are talking about. really raised the production value.
1:03:14 “Thelma Todd once shit on me, but she put a table cloth so it killed the whole point.”
“She was very formal that way.”
LMFAO
This is so funny I had to listen in several parts.
Because Chicco needed the money
Whores and gambling
Howard Stern made a big mistake taking Gilbert off his show.
Fred Garvin Howard has gone insane. He used to put shit on Jennifer Anniston, now he goes on holiday with her!
Stern pissed off almost everyone he worked with. Stuttering John, Billy West, George Takei, Gilbert.
This is tremendous.
absolutely amazing.
Claude Rains' upper crust accent was not a "put-on" so much as a necessity for anyone who wanted to be an actor. Many other British actors were from the working class and had to change their accents.
Excellent thanks
i was going to share this podcast on my facebook but instead i've decided to quietly steal all the jokes.
Great stuff.
This is awesome
Are there more of these podcasts? This is truly wonderful.
There's a second Gottfried/Stoliar podcast on RUclips.
A bunch are one Soundcloud, can be listened to or downloaded. There is about 200 but anything earlier has been pulled and is only available for pay on Earwolf and Stitcher.
hate to say it but steves groucho is soo much better than gilberts
Maybe so, but there is something about Gilbert doing old Groucho that is pure comedy magic and totally unique!
Gilbert's impression is purposely over the top.
Not true, even though you hate to say it.
Sounds like an impression of professor Farnsworth
Hey, what's the poop on Danny Thomas?
THANKS CHRIS!!
Take that shit-eating grin off your face!
Gilbert POD fried
In my day when a person ran
it meant that they moved faster.
Gil is very funny but now I have to sue.
This was 3 years ago. Whatever happened to that movie?
Still in development.
@@rialtos1 Development Hell

Sucks to know this movie won't be made
It's still in development - just without Rob Z attached. Stay tuned!

Gilbert in person/on video tape is hilarious.
Gilbert Audio Only in person is
It's amazing to me that anyone thinks Marvin Hamlisch is a talented composer.
That voice is so bad, I think it's Kamala Harris.
Excellent story by Steve, but I’m sorry Gilbert ruins it. Whoever said he was funny and his Impersonation of Groucho is an insult!
You have a very smooth brain.
Gil is distracting in this interview....can't take the interview seriously with his nonsense.
Yes, the interview is a very serious matter indeed.
He is always distracting then. He does the same thing every interview
Excellent story but Gilbert ruins it. His impersonation of Groucho was an insult..
You have a very smooth brain.
So odd when Gottfried sabotages and derails the conversation for cheap laughs, mostly his own.
You are exactly right...Gilbert is so fortunate to have his cohost Frank there with him...Frank is the one who really maked the podcast go...he is so well researched and knows how to lead the guests through anecdote after anecdote, while Gilbert just cackles his insane laugh...the interviews would be twice as good without gilbert there, and we would learn so much more from the guests,,,,
Gilbert is naturally obnoxious, that’s part of his charm.
You would think Godfried would have quickly realized that Stoliar's impersonation of Groucho was so far superior than his own, that he would not have used it the rest of the podcast after his first try....and the reference to the so called Danny Thomas gross fetish was maybe funny once, but not 6 more times...it got stupid and over the top...and he keeps interrupting the guests, always trying to get his own shtick in,..if it wasn't for his cohort Frank, skillfully managing the interviews, the podcasts would be worthless...and it is a real shame, because some of the guests they have are very interesting...
daniel lack - - I respectfully disagree.

You are an idiot
You don’t know GG.......I’m surprised he only mentioned it 6 times
Loudmouth know-it-all know-nothing douche. Why don't you go watch a trump rally for your comedy
