  • Having put 23+ hours into the great indy space game, I give you a breakdown of mechanics and features to be found here. A great game to pick up, if you are a Star Citizen backer who currently does not have a PC that can run the game, as many mechanics here can be seen in the current flight model but more fleshed out. A great game to play and practice inertia flight techniques.

    This game REALLY deserves to be supported a lot more in the gaming community. Seeing how it already is an incredible piece of work, I can't help but imagine what it would become if the (only) dev could put more time and ressources into it.

    I've just tried the demo, obviously needs a lot more work, but impressive non the less, flying seamlessly down to a planet, seeing land, water, tress AND life in the form of birds, incredible, and a big surprise, accidentally finding a trading post on the surface, this has potential, I wish the developer all the best in his efforts.

      I'd heard on the grapevine(internet) that it was only one guy, I sincerely hope he gets more help, the potential for this is beyond imaging, and I have a good imagination.

      Every "new game" is an upgraded version of his previous. I think he has been advancing this game over 20 years... or something like that. Still, there are a LOT of principles in this game I would like to see in Star Citizen. I am glad you found the video informative. And thanks for the input :-)

      They are actually not very complex, compared to a lot of games. In fact, they are pretty streamlined to each section giving what you need, how you need it. But like anything, the more you use something, the easier it gets. As of yesterday, the programmer (1 guy) has upgraded the UI a bit more. Also, he has been upgrading the graphics and game play features a LOT since this review. The man is relentless in upgrading the game. We now have wheeled ground vehicles, along with mech suits for the ground. He is really taking the game places.

      It is more of a sanbox than a hard focused story. You can play online with friends on a privately hosted server (though this can be difficult) or a public server.

    Hey Jarus. Looking at this review as per your suggestion. Looking at this in terms of what maybe we should hope (if pigs fly) to see from Star Citizen. Two of the things I've seemed to notice from looking at games like Evochron and Elite is two-fold. One the sense inertia is much higher due to (you guessed it) not having over-powered mav thrusters and that the game either don't have gimballed weapons (at least as far as I've seen in Evochron) or in the case of Elite:Dangerous, its not useful against other players who use more complex (possibly META) tactics) due to the fact that dispensing chaff makes gimbal weapons much less effective (if not ineffective). Those two things coupled together would appear to solve (at least in some small part) CIG's player flight issues. If you couldn't quickly change your vector, I think it would have a positive effect on the game of SC and would reduce (to some extent) the proclivity of players to simply circle strafe each other. Secondly, removing the "aim-by-mouse" feature would remove the disincentive of players with less skill to improve their piloting.
    I would (at first glance) also be in favor of uncapping flight speeds if you added "Fuel" to the mix. It is something I have been in favor of for quite some time. Having unlimited fuel for flight (while not a HUGE deal for me) would seem to again, take away consequence for players. I think the only balance to unlimited flight speeds would be that perhaps a (light) speed cap could be implemented in the form of the following. You could accelerate to near c, but the acceleration curve would begin to flatten out at some point (perhaps at IDK say 10,000 m/s). Sure you would continue to accelerate past 10,000 m/s but the acceleration would become lower and lower. I know it doesn't TECHNICALLY make sense (and as such maybe it shouldn't be used) but I think having some kind of cap isn't a horrible thing.
    One thing I do like about fuel is it really adds a sense of responsibility to a player. Want to mine in the depths of a gas giant? or closer to a star? GO ahead, the escape velocity of both are going to use up a LOT of fuel. If you haven't planned that out correctly, you might find yourself running out of fuel BEFORE you escape from the gravity well of that particular object.
    I'll continue to watch this and other videos to try and get more info.
    If I could give a tip for you and other more experienced flight model/mechanic informed players. I don't want to say you need to 'dumb down' many of your discussions but I think that a lot of times its necessary to break down concepts into more easily digestible concepts. The reason I say this is, that often times it seems like a bunch of academics or economics majors having an argument over monetary policy. For the average Jane/Joe on the street I don't understand much of what you're talking about and it's not that I'm not interested, but I have limited time IRL (businesse, jobs, family, etc.) so while it doesn't often covey the 'fine details' sometimes analogies or examples work best to convey your message to the masses. At the end of the day, its not the 1% you have to convince/educate, it's the other 99%.
    It's one of the reasons why I am such a stickler about asking people for examples of what they see as they kind of FM they think they would most enjoy in SC. It's much easier to look at a game and say "Oh yeah, I do like that a lot more" rather than say "Because of 1st Order this and IM that and True Newtonian physics this" This isn't to say you (and others) aren't correct (although I suspect I might not know if you were ;) but it doesn't help me as the guy who can play for two hours after work understand why what you are saying is important.
    Anyway, great video. I'm picking this game up to test it out. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
    P.S. I hope this made sense, it was mostly a 'stream of consciousness'

    • @CitizenGamer
      @CitizenGamer  6 лет назад +1

      Merry X-mas to you as well. It was a good Stream of Consciousness.
      And you are correct. I tend to jump the end and not explain the middle. I have done this my whole life, and my teachers hated it. I gave the right answer... but never explained how. So, often I get in the habit of doing the same in conversations. Something to work on, in the new year.

      The buttons should always be set to YOUR preferences. Like I have my landing mode, automated landing and select landing pad for Star Citizen on the right controller... lower left set of 3 buttons on the base.
      What I do for the sticks are this, control wise.
      Right stick: Pull push (pitch), Left right (pivot left and right), Twist (rotation)
      Left Stick: Pull Push (strafe forward and reverse), Left right (Strafe left and right), twist (twist left is strafe up twist right strafe down... these are trickier as curves help get this to feel right.. but that is to your own hand)
      I use the left throttle slider as an absolute 0-100 throttle. I set the throttle to "0" when I want to use just the strafe controls. I use the left trigger to activate boost, to keep all velocity controls on the left hand.
      I think that is the trick.. have each hand do a task. It is the best way to keep it clear in your mind. Left hand,... movement. Right hand, facing.
      If you split the tasks this way, it is easier to get a hold of the concept. It takes time to learn... but it WILL feel natural after a while.
      Very natural... and you won't want to go back.
      I hope this explains a bit.. or helps. But as far as individual buttons go... map those to your train of thought.
      Let me know if you have more questions.

    • @CitizenGamer
      @CitizenGamer  8 лет назад +4

      +Brahmin Herder The coop is solid. You can either join a public server or host your own. I would check the forums for setting up your own private server, as currently it can be difficult if you don't know how to port forward. BUT, hosting your own server does have the advantage of you building your own world and retaining it, for offline purposes. The game has a lot more development down the road, with a developer who listens to his community and supports mods.
      So, it is possible that hosting a game will be simpler in the future. But,.. as I said.. there are public servers that are up. You and your friend can join one of those and play, at any time.
