Watching you on the old Singer was bittersweet for me. I learned to sew on my grandmothers treadle machine. When I was a teenager I made all my clothing on that machine. However, we had a robbery and my grandmothers machine was stolen. I never got it back. 😪
Thanks for the great tip with using the clips. I will so use that tip. It is wonderful that you have and are using the treadle machine. I am envious. 😃
I'm sure you can find one to play on too! They're only impractical if you need to move it often (they are very heavy). If you do go looking for a treadle, just remember you can remove the cabinet from the treadle base usually with just four screws. Separated they are much easier to manage!
I'm so glad you like this Denise! I was a bit worried because it's different, but I loved the challenge and the soft sounds it makes. It really was a unique experience. I guess I should challenge myself to quilt on this machine too?!
Enjoyed watching you sew on your Singer 27 treadle machine. Love your trying to say pressure foot pressure... you made me laugh. What a great way to start my day. I do so appreciate your teaching, thank you.
I love that machine! Thank you so much for the tutorial and wonderful tips very helpful and I love how you take your time and you're very precise and all your piercings and every aspect in explaining yourself thoroughly. Cathy
So fun to see the treadle machine, thanks for sharing! Also wanted to say thanks again for the scrap-charger tip. You shared that idea many years ago when I was watching your channel and completely new to quilting. I've been using starter scraps ever since! I still enjoy watching your videos as I sew!
Hi Leah, great to see you treadling. I think if you go a little faster you won’t have issues with the foot getting stuck on the seam allowances. I have been treadling for years admittedly not with a 27 but a modern 201K and this has never been an issue. I love the control treadling offers. Thanks for your video.
Your treadle is so cool! I love the old machines. They are so beautiful. I think modern machines are boring looking. I have a couple of cling stickers on mine to try to liven them up a bit.
LOL! I totally agree. Apparently these floral decals and embossed face plates began to look "old fashioned" and everyone wanted plain black, streamlined machines. I've seen quilters that paint their machines and honestly I don't think it's a bad idea. Anything is better than white plastic!
Lovely video Leah! I am so glad to see you piecing with the 27. You treadle like a born natural. How are you finding working with the long bobbin? Lots of vintage machine enthusiasts overlook these machines in favour of 15s, 301s and Featherweights because they say they don't hold enough thread on the bobbin. I would love to see you have a go at straight line or FMQ on your 27 at some point in the future. Thanks again for the inspirational tutorials XX
Thank you Gavin! It's working great. I really love the shuttle bobbin and get a kick winding them. They don't hold much thread (half a regular bobbin) but it's worth it!
Yay...you finally got the treadle restored and working...I love my 1904 Singer and 1914 Minnesota A treadle machines...It looks like you've attached a modern foot on yours....What foot did you use?
Don’t the various squares come out as different sizes (the hour glass vs the half sq triangle and plain sq?) Was there a mention of trimming the larger squares down to the size of the smallest (the hour glass)? So many other steps are detailed, but without resizing the final piecing would be pretty nightmarish. Love your videos.

I'm so sorry to hear that Kathleen! Check Ebay - I'm sure you can find a similar machine there and have those wonderful memories back again.
Love watching you on the Singer Treadle..
Wonderful! More videos to come Christine!

It's great to see your treddle sewing machine being used!👍😄 I love the cheerfulness of this block & it is such a skill builder. Thanks for sharing.

@@LeahDay oh, that would be fun! A long time ago I had the opportunity to use a treddle & loved it SO much.
I love this block! It is pretty.
Thank you Denise! It was a lot of fun to design. I kept telling Dad - make more quarter square triangles! Eventually we had enough.
I learned on a singer treadle loved it. Great to see one working again. Thank you,
That's great Fredricka! Definitely planning on making more videos on this fun machine!

Thank you Vivian! LOL! Try to say that three times fast - it's impossible! Thank you so much for watching!
I love that machine! Thank you so much for the tutorial and wonderful tips very helpful and I love how you take your time and you're very precise and all your piercings and every aspect in explaining yourself thoroughly. Cathy
Thank you Cathy! I was a bit worried I focused too much on the treadle and not enough on the piecing. I'm glad to know you liked it!
I used to sew on a treadle years ago, and loved it. Fun watching this!
That's wonderful! I'm so glad you enjoyed this!
I love the sound of the treadle machine. Thank you for the tutorial.
Me too! I love that subtle clickety noise. Thank you for watching!

Thank you Sarah! Wow, that's wonderful to hear you've been using a scrap to start ever since the beginning. That's awesome!

Thank you for that suggestion Lucy! I'll give it a try!

it is a bit ironic how cyclical trends are
Thank you.
I have the 1919 red eye beautiful machines.
NICE! I really want one of those!

Thank you for the clarification. I was getting lost. Lol
You're welcome Linda!

Yep, this is a patchwork foot! You can find it here: leahday.com/products/patchwork-foot

Yes, Mary, all of the information on the size of the shapes and trimming is included in the quilt pattern: www.leahday.com/friendship
Do you always press the seam open?
Yep! You can listen to a podcast I've shared on this topic here: freemotionquilting.blogspot.com/2017/10/the-great-pressing-seams-debate-podcast.html
👏👏👍👍😀😀
Thank you Luiz!
