  • The Ford Ranger 2015 is a ute on the rise, leapfrogging some well known models to become the second biggest seller in 2014. While it’s still falls short of the big-selling Toyota HiLux, the gap is narrowing - and with good reason, because the current Ford Ranger model line-up consists of almost 40 different variations for buyers to choose from, including the range-topping four-wheel-drive, dual-cab Wildtrak model we’re testing here.
This top-of-the-pops version is more aimed at the kind of buyer who’ll use the tray and towing capability of the Ranger occasionally rather than on a day-to-day basis, with a sporty bent and unique styling that sets it apart from the more affordable models in the line-up.
It’s priced from $59,930 plus costs - making it one of the most expensive utes on the market.
It offers refinement, class-leading towing and excellent load capacity, all wrapped up in a convincing package. There’s good reason it’s catching up to the Toyota.

I love the Ford Ranger!..I can't believe it isn't sold in Canada..even more unbelievable is that the FORD Ranger isn't sold in the US? Guess I'll look into importing one from Mexico. I'll just surprise the shit out of everyone in their f150s :)

I live in Taiwan in Alishan up in the mountains with steep roads often have to negotiate landslides and boulders.
The 5 cylinder does sound like a bit of a tractor but the torque is fantastic. It is not really quiet but thats compared to my 1.8l A4 Audi lol. I have the Wildtrak with the 6 speed auto which of course you can select manually. This car is much better when you have 5 large passengers than say the Tacoma which is quite small inside and does not have head height or leg room in the back for large passengers. I also have an ARB Bullbar fitted with 2 large driving lights and that was my decision in buying the Ford over the Toyota which does not have those.
The 3.2l Diesel 5 cylinder hauls arse. Even on the highway it's been fun out dragging BMW's and Merc drivers who don't think these trucks are fast. Its really stable in high wind conditions and in some areas the highways near the coast high speed winds sweeping across the highway.
I didn't buy the Wildtrak for fuel economy but in the mountains I am averaging 8.5km per litre and better on highway.
It's spacious inside. Not as well finished off as the Tacoma but it cost about AUD$15000 less than the limited 2016 Tacoma my friend bought. My friend gets his 2016 Tacoma in April so we can compare. We both have businesses but we don't often fill up the trays with heavy things. I've filled up with a ton of firewood and you don't even notice the weight with the torque in the ranger. Diesel here costs about AUD$ 75 cents a Liter in Taiwan. I bought a 5 year warranty plan on my car so not worried about issues and Ford have guaranteed service prices here. I service the truck every 10,000km rather than the 15,000km normal service period. It doesn't cost much extra to know the car is well maintained. I bought it to use for next 15 - 20 years.
I wouldn't buy this car if primarily used in a city like Sydney with its narrow roads. It takes up a lot of car parking space and the turning circle is large. Be great in Canberra where roads are wider and you needed to head up to the snow mountains or drive down the south east coast.
So far loving this car after 6 months of driving it.

dstv asia thanks for the reply. I'm looking at a 15 year, but may wait for a good 16 face lift. I had a Ranger for 8 years and not one problem!

Best sales in NZ, but already starting to get a reputation for breakages. It takes at least a decade to test how a truck really is, a 13 year old 4x4 Hilux will still set you back 25k with 200+ ks on the clock, for that reason.

Any idea if this is a unibody or built-on-frame design? It looks a lot like the Explorer so I'm thinking its unibody based on the Taurus body.

I haven't had any issues with mine over the past 6 months or so. I don't think the wild track is worth the extra cash for a work truck.

Hajduk any problems with it now?

I could be a wanker and say it was all good but ill say the truth.
It had a issue with the air con. At 22c it would get crazy hot.
21.5c fine then at 22 38c+ the max is 30 on the dial?
It only happened at night so ford couldn't/would't test it. I complained a few times with recording it on my phone, called Ford Australia (I'm in NZ) Went back 5 times, I fought them for months. They did fix it in the end after a change of management at the dealer. I would still get one over the others(ford/holden/toyota). I like the look of the new holden 2016-17 but that engine isn't as good, then again I have not driven it. The holden of 2015 was a bit rougher when i test drove it.
I drove the new Ranger for a few days while they 'fixed it' a few times. Not sure about the electric steering. I think the new one is a vast improvement though overall. just buttons, layout, less cabin noise, distance following, parking assist and the new gearing makes it easier to drive around town. It feels smoother on take off
I pull a 3.2 ton trailer around and it has been a good truck. I wouldn't get a wild track. Its a waste of money. It was a lot more for not much. I think a good stereo system would be part of it. Doesn't really improve look wise either.

Hajduk thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.
I'm in England, and there is a tax on buying commercial vehicles (20% vat)
So good second, plus buying from someone who is not registered for vat is the way to go for me! but limits the variety available.
(if you can follow me lol) So being aware of this I need to really know want I'm looking for, and when it comes up....go for it!! wildtrack/Limited? are my favourites. But Toyota invincible has it's arguments!
I owned a Thunder for 8 years never a problem. Think at the end of the day, it's just your luck :-)

Guys please watch the video amarok vs ford ranger. And see for yourself what the amarok with its 2.0 132kw does to the wildtrack with its 3.2 147kw. With and without a load. Please look at it.

I hate the plastic bit where the rack would be, it's so damn pointless, why didn't they put stainless steel rack instead or just leave that part out and sell it cheaper. Who's the idiot that thought that was a good idea for a pickup?

pontiacGXPfan Because thats exactly why Ford Won't offer the Ranger in the U.S.
You have the F series Pick Up. Iif Ford would sell the Ranger in North America, it might hurt the sales of the F series, wich is the golden Goose of Ford America.
