I've had my Wildtrak for 18 months now and it hasn't skipped a beat. Awesome vehicle! Bush, beach and around town all an absolute pleasure and the comfort, features and technology leaves the otbers wanting. The hilux brigade bag the manufacturing but they are all made in Thailand anyway. My next ute will be another Wildtrak.
Now you have owned it a while. How do you find it ? I test drove one and it felt very gutless but I'm used to performance cars I guess. I loved how comfortable it was.
Delta BoXeR I traded in my Holden v8 (had the v8 for 10 years) for this truck not much of a difference if you ask me for performance apart from take off speeds v8 obviously faster, this truck is powerful on road and off-road and very stable when travelling at high speeds and very stable off road as well. I Don’t Even miss my v8 at all.
I'll say, this is the cleanest, most detailed car review channel I've ever come upon. Other car reviews didn't even mention that there's additional charger port located at the cargo bed.
correction it can only identify the command by doing it one by one although it takes a long time but that's how it works. "climate" >climate, set temperature "18 degrees" >climate set to 18 degrees
Brilliant review, clean, to the point, and succinct. I don't know where they found him but this guy puts all the other current car testers to shame. I own a 2016 Wildtrack and he sums up all the pros and cons with spot on accuracy. Bloody good ute by the way, a bit thirsty and like all these types of vehicles, corners like a drunk camel on roller skates (but then damn it all, it's not an Aston) otherwise in a class of it's own. A head and shoulders above all the rice burners.
Wish mine was as good as this one Ford gave you guys. Bought my PX2 Wildtrak last year and it was only good for around 400km. Since then it's been a nightmare. 22000km later all issues with driveline vibrations/shudder, transmission and sync 2 continue to be met with the delightful phrase "characteristic of the vehicle". I could write a book about the nightmare I've had dealing with Ford the last ten months but there's only so much you can type here. Don't make the same mistake I did. Avoid buying a Ranger. I'm sure they're great if you don't get a lemon. But if you do Ford will not help you. I am not the only Ranger owner with these issues not getting resolved. Don't risk it! Spend your hard earned elsewhere with a manufacturer that has a good customer service record. Great review by the way guys, as always, and sorry for the rant but Ford have helped me find my purpose in life...Dissuade as many people as possible from buying their cars!
You brought the manual didn't you. Only 4% of Rangers sold are manuals. They have the shit dual mass clutch and you will vibrate like my wife's side of the bed after I go to sleep.
Just bought myself a MY17 Wildtrak. What a great vehicle. They now come with the upgraded SYNC3 and its been "Australianised" and works a treat. This thing is a pleasure to drive. Lots of safety features. I drove the new V6 Amarok and the Z71 Colorado before buying the Ford. The Wildtrak come up trumps for me (and I'm a GM guy). Cant wait to start towing our 2500ATM caravan.
Great review, My Old Pug Face has travelled 100,000km trouble free and I loved every kilometre. When I bought it I had no idea how much I would respect the all around awesomeness of this truck. will I go again? Damn straight!
I really kinda like the looks and the engine specs the only problem is reliability. Will this thing still run after 1million miles or 10 years with minor repairs? I bet not
john sword I did 130,000 km with no problems running like new in my 2013 model. No problems at all, I know this doesn’t mean it won’t shit itself at 300but it’s a good indication
No the new ones will not. The modern diesel utes are not Isuzu trucks. The injectors fail, the shitty shit egr system and diesel particulate filter shits itself. It's a massive problem. Trying to make a diesel engine not give out soot and emissions. Thry are now trying to get 500 Newton meters out of a 2 litre engine. The compression is enough to make a diamond from coal. It's like a horny monk.
Great review see all these negative comments, all vehicles have issues, can't be all that bad as they're selling in droves including myself, mine arrives next month wildtrak manual, try running one as a daily driver with auto transmission on uk fuel prices, keep up the good work lads
Am amazed. Driving at 110km/hr and you looked relaxed. With my Mazda BT50, at 110ks, my hands are locked on the steering wheel and eyes focused on the road
It seems GM has made a really strong showing with the Colorado. Ford intends to bring the T6 Ranger to North America in 2018 but I'm thinking it might be a lesser vehicle.
Great review, thank you! Personally though I find this global "UTE's are now practical daily cars' concept like its a 'new' thing strange. In South Africa people have been using double cab pickups and their wagon derivatives as daily family/lifestyle cars for over 20 years.
Ok so here is my 20 cents worth. After a long succession of Hilux SR5 utes, I have finally decided to go to the dark side and have ordered a new Wildtrack ute. Why, you may ask! Well my ute is used for work and play. It regularly tows a race car and often a caravan. I also go off road and use the ute around the farm. I want top of the range, as much for comfort as resale value. I have added $20k of ARB gear to ensure the ute fits my needs. I have spent the last 3 months test driving every ute on the market. I even had a couple for a weekend (don't ever part with your hard earned cash based on a 20 minute test drive). Most dealers will organise this for you if you ask - most people don't! I don't like this trend of smaller capacity diesels with ever increasing KW & NM output. This can only be achieved by higher boost pressure and compression ratios. I want a big capacity, low stress engine with the runs on the board. I want a second generation model with the major bugs ironed out - I don't want to be a guinea pig! I want a ute for which I can get service and repair parts when I am travelling the outback, so it needs to be what the mining and farming industry use. So......the only ute I could find that ticked nearly all the boxes was the Wildtrack. My only criticism is on a $60k vehicle I would expect driver's seat memory and definitely daytime running lights. With delivery later this month, only time will tell if I have made the right decision!
Well that's market specific. In my some markets the Wildtrack is essentially a just higher trim level over the XLT - same towing capacities etc, but the Wildtrack has more luxury features such adaptive cruise control over standard cruise control (XLT), climate control over manual AC (XLT) and more bling bling exterior parts over the XLT.
great review informative and kept to the point of what the car is made for rather than talking about the aspirations of the company for the image of the car and end user
+SirTurtle any technical explanations on why you don't approve of the Ranger? I'm quite sure they're robust considering it was engineered by the team who engineered the Falcon.
Andrew Gallagher Well from my assumption they were built by the same people who made the falcon the shitty broken version of a commodore therefore I assume it would be another shitty ripoff of something good. My mate also had one of the new rangers it couldn't make it up any of the forbie trails our old landcruisers could make it up. Cars that were first designed in 1960, If you want a car for offroading and a real beast I would suggest the 40 series landcruisers up to 80 series. The 40 up to 70 are beasts but not quite capable of some trails, the 80 series though Is by far my choice for any trails because it comes stock with diff-lockers and pretty much nothing gets in its way and most older models of the 80 don't have any bullshit computers. Plus my final reason is it's a ford. Fords break.
+SirTurtle Oh OK so I guess the Australian Engineers at Ford don't know how to design a car considering it's common to see falcon taxis with more than half a million kms on the ODO? Maybe your mate needs the correct tyres for offroading?
Very good review. I will now organise a test drive of this model. I need to tow a boat in future, this should do the trick and is in my price bracket. Thanks.
Thanks for the review its really good. Coming from the Southern hemisphere we invariably drive pickups, to the extent that even company cars are either single cabs, double cabs and if you make it right to the top something like a Landcruiser, Patrol. So in the 80s, Toyota ruled the roost, 90s, same story, around the late 90s and part way 2000s - Isuzu and the various offerings from Nissan gave it a good go for its title and at times supplanted it. Come the teens and all of a sudden the Ford is a serious contender running Toyota close sometimes or outright beating it but overall the Toyota is still the king. l wonder if you could do a comprehensive comparison, say Ranger, Toyota , the Isuz KB, the Mitsubishi, Nissan, Mazda and maybe some of the Chinese pickups which one is beginning to see around. That could be very interesting.
Ford 150 was the King in the USA last year and this year. Most vehicles sold. Toyota less modern, less comfortable, fails moose test so dangerous. No one wants a pick-up rolling over with their kids inside.
Yes its tough for sure, but the problem is they cant make the wind shield anytougher. Small stone smaller than my pinky finger, chip or even crack the windshiled easy.
I really enjoyed the review, particularly the rear seat demo, not enough reviews do it. Fair Dinkum, in an Aussie Ute, you'd reckon there'd be rear aircon. Also reviewers don't seem to include in their reviews the manufactures attitude and Quality of After Sales Service when you have problems particularly with a new car. If they permanently fix it right the first time without excuses or argument its just annoying but you tell everyone at least they sorted it. But If they are difficult to deal with and not interested in assisting you after you spent big bucks like Volkswagen or Chrysler it wouldn't matter how good the review I wouldn't risk it.
If talking specifically about the engines, Ford elected to use an inline-5, which is different from the rest of the bunch. Did their choice pay off? Is the Ford smoother and more powerful than its' 4-Cylinder competition? Enough to balance out the penalty they took on fuel economy, and the actual front-end weight of the engine?
I will answer your question. The Everest has seats where the Ranger has a tub. People who don't have more than 2 kids like to have the tub. We can go to Bunnings and load the tub full of overpriced shit. We then use our bullbar to drive home through traffic. The tub holds hardly anything but look at the paint job. This is not a work ute so it is not used for loading up scratchy shit like a Toyota Workmate is.
Jeff Stryker I'm in the same boat. Ranger wildtrack/limited? Toyota invincible? I look, and I look! Trouble is all these reviews are similar. love it/hate it. This ones nice, but for me there's alot missing! they don't compare service costs, possible repair costs etc. Think my next stage is to ask ford/Toyota cost to service. Can I service myself? etc.
So did you get either? How are they? I want an XLT but as usual, there's the stories of gearbox issues yet no one can tell me if its manuals or autos. And fire. But that's from parking a piping hot car in very tall dry grass. Someone did that once at a drag meet in a Cadillac and burnt over 80 cars to the ground. Back when we called him an idiot and not a victim by blaming car companies. The Hilux I like too but it's underpowered, doesn't come with standard tow pack, tray liner etc. I want an auto but they can't tow 3.5t. If I get a manual its detuned to make even less power! And of course Hilux is having DPF and injector issues.
There is talk within the industry that ford will bring the Ranger back to the US / Canada in early 2018 Ranger is currently sold in Mexico with 2.2 diesel engine
The Rangers are now listed in the Dog and lemon guide as Unreliable and get 2 out of 5 stars. They have major problems with all the sensors on the vehicle and when you do an oil change the oil pump empties and wont reprime when the new oil is added. This means the oil pump fails and the engine then fails. Ford are having to replace engines at an alarming rate. I know a guy who has had 3 engine replacements from Ford. They also have major issues with their four wheel drive systems and drive train. Terrible vehicles
As sumone whos had both a 3.2 and a 3.0d4d the hilux takes a harder punch when towing and loading the bin i used to load 1 ton most days in the bin. and 4x4 system is better . Bur i enjoyed driving the ranger more but the motor blew due oil starvation. My vote goes hilux but it all depends on the reason ur buying a pick up
Your mechanic did that. They let the oil drain out of the oil pump when they changed the oil. The oil has to be changed in less than 10 minutes or the oil pump empties out. You saved $10 by going to Kmart auto didn't you.
@@doctorboy5892 lol. I learnt my lesson for sure. its actually a common problem on the t6 ranger 2012-2016 year models that and the turbo and the gear box in the auto and the radiator .I traded my t6 for a t7 and i havent looked back. But if your not an ozzy or an south african you wont have to wory
Wow I'm glad we got cheaper trucks in the U.S. I've had many Rangers (I got a mint 2004 one right now) but no way would I pay $60,000. We can get a Raptor for that much in the U.S. I know it's just a different market over seas where they sell these Rangers but come on. How much would the Raptor be there? Like a $120,000?
You need to factor in local wages too though. For example the average annual wage in Australia in 2016 as per the bureau of statistics was just under $80K ($79721). In the US that is about the average wage for someone with a Doctorate, whereas the median annual wage for the entire population is around $41,520. Apples and Oranges Mate, hence why a $60K price tag isn't as much of a slap in the face down under.
As soon as this video started i was like hmmm.. seems familiar location. Thats Lerderderg state park if I'm not mistaken. good little spot for camping.
it's a bargain to buy this pick-up I mean it's very very good at doing it's thing, spec wise it beats the hellaout of the competitors and it's really capable of doing so not only in paper.but remember it is a FORD. Fix Or Repair Daily. goodluck with aftersale service and pray tht you don't get a lemon car.
***** Truth, is truth. Ford is trying its socks off to even come close to the Hilux. Whichever dealer you go to, they will recommend the Hilux. The Ranger isn/t bad, its pretty good. But, sorry, the Hilux is better. Period!
great review - very informative and even entertaining and I got a good laugh from some of his comments - the wildtrak "pugface" is very desirable but a bit too expensive brand new - I wonder if its price will devalue to 58% after 2 years? which would make it more affordable and better value since it should devalue much slower after that initial drop in value - it should also have 1 year warranty left but being a diesel which I have never owned before wonder how much more expensive to service - after 3 years I would be doing the services myself as I have done with all my cars - how much more work is it to service this diesel than a petrol engine eg 6 cyl ford falcon??
would any one know whether the videos on the net about ford ranger driving in mud are real..? i have just realized the performance by ranger in muddy situation is the worst...i bought a wildtrak and i am regreting....i should have stuck with the prado
I've had my Wildtrak for 18 months now and it hasn't skipped a beat. Awesome vehicle! Driving this car 2018
This review has taught me more about my car.
Thanks sir In South Africa 🙌

any problems so far? im thinking of buying a 2014 one
This is one of the best videos that CA has made. Pity that they don't do more like this
Great review, My Old Pug Face has travelled 100,000km trouble free and I loved every kilometre. When I bought it I had no idea how much I would respect the all around awesomeness of this truck. will I go again? Damn straight!

john sword nah its good 600,659 miles we did it looks new Beat all the trucks here soo strong and fast
no problem mate.. take the manual.. if you use lots in city, might consider a auto.. the fuel for 3.2 is a bit much for a city used, better 2.2...
Mine has done 763000 now, now problems at all
No the new ones will not. The modern diesel utes are not Isuzu trucks. The injectors fail, the shitty shit egr system and diesel particulate filter shits itself. It's a massive problem. No water in the creek....because were in Australia. 👌 that’s gold!
great in depth review, thanks James.
The best truck EVER is a late 80’s Landcruiser Ute.
Simple to work on, no unnecessary electronic junk, proper built!
Great review see all these negative comments, all vehicles have issues, can't be all that bad as they're selling in droves including myself, mine arrives next month wildtrak manual, try running one as a daily driver with auto transmission on uk fuel prices, keep up the good work lads
David Thompson what engine? How's it been?
Am amazed. Driving at 110km/hr and you looked relaxed.
With my Mazda BT50, at 110ks, my hands are locked on the steering wheel and eyes focused on the road
Not available in Canada, what a shame!
Best review I’ve ever seen.
great reviews and hope to buy a new ford 2018, I already have a ford ranger 2015 which is very good performance
The most massive car in pick-up league, Ford-Ranger is still the KING.
This is how a review should have done. Great work..!
It seems GM has made a really strong showing with the Colorado. Ford intends to bring the T6 Ranger to North America in 2018 but I'm thinking it might be a lesser vehicle.
i love this guy. Please let this guy do video reviews in the future .
is this version of ranger wildtrack have manual transmission?...i like manual than automatic
best car reviewer ive seen. subscribed
Great review, this guy should do them all.
Great review . Get mine next week 🙂
Great review. This is the ute I want. But I might wait for a side by side with the new Amerok and new Colorado.
Thanks Kodiak - stay tuned!
Great review, thank you! Personally though I find this global "UTE's are now practical daily cars' concept like its a 'new' thing strange. In South Africa people have been using double cab pickups and their wagon derivatives as daily family/lifestyle cars for over 20 years.

It's called a Tub. The tray is the silver one, made from aluminium.

my dad wants this or Amarok V6
Cassidy Bartley cool story bro
What did daddy get?
The uk spec Ranger Limited(xlt) and wildrack come standard with C-channel tie down rails in the back:) cant wait to get mine.

Andrew Gallagher Maybe holdens are better and fords have a reputation for being shit.
Good honest review. I wouldn't buy one because of its cheap and nasty build quality. The fuel consumption is really bad.
its the best channel ever
We like it too :)
is the underside treated so it wont rust??
No it isn't and it has Huge Problems with rust.
Hi their with the roller shutter.. Does the tailgate need to be open in order to open the roller shutter??
+Peter P - nope. You can roll the cover back with the gate closed.
Finally I was waiting for this review!! :)
Very good review. I will now organise a test drive of this model. I need to tow a boat in future, this should do the trick and is in my price bracket.

No you have the superior F150 3 litre diesel.
Nice work, James.

Great review of a great UTE!
Awesome review 👍
The truck bed is shockingly small on the Wildtrack and at $60,000 why not just get a Ford Everest?
+Reko Sri - it's about the same as Hilux but smaller than Amarok
If talking specifically about the engines, Ford elected to use an inline-5, which is different from the rest of the bunch. Did their choice pay off? The Hilux I like too but it's underpowered, doesn't come with standard tow pack, tray liner etc.
I want an auto but they can't tow 3.5t. If I get a manual its detuned to make even less power!
And of course Hilux is having DPF and injector issues.
Great as always!
They should bring back the ranger here in Canada.
There is talk within the industry that ford will bring the Ranger back to the US / Canada in early 2018
Ranger is currently sold in Mexico with 2.2 diesel engine
there coming back to north america soon.
It'll be at your local Ford dealership at the end of next year - so my dealer says and I'm from Ontario, Canada.
New or old Rangers? My 09 has never given me an issue.. do you have a source for your comment?
Review of the new TLC prado pls

This or the Toyota hilux16 plan on buying but can't decide
I'm in the same boat lol would love to know which one you bought and how has it been ?
Where is this Ford manufactured? USA or Australia?
+David Deiss Thailand!
Designed and engineered in Melbourne Australia but made in Thailand...call Donald Trump, tell him we need our manufacturing back here!
This car it so big and strong and I have a Prado , Nissan xtrail , land cruiser , Toyota funiter Subaru forester
im not sure if me or what, but why tell the car what the weather is instead of asking what's weather?? you get me
Modikoe Pule yuy
As sumone whos had both a 3.2 and a 3.0d4d the hilux takes a harder punch when towing and loading the bin i used to load 1 ton most days in the bin. and 4x4 system is better . Bur i enjoyed driving the ranger more but the motor blew due oil starvation. My vote goes hilux but it all depends on the reason ur buying a pick up
Fastday Rockstar your level of literacy tells me the most expensive thing you've driven is a shopping cart.
So a lack of maintenance is the cars fault?
Your mechanic did that. They let the oil drain out of the oil pump when they changed the oil. The oil has to be changed in less than 10 minutes or the oil pump empties out. You saved $10 by going to Kmart auto didn't you.
@@doctorboy5892 lol. I learnt my lesson for sure. its actually a common problem on the t6 ranger 2012-2016 year models that and the turbo and the gear box in the auto and the radiator .I traded my t6 for a t7 and i havent looked back. But if your not an ozzy or an south african you wont have to wory
@@OFFICIAL_VIDEO_AWARDS ay dont be a dip shit its not my 1st language ass hole . Im doing much better now thanks for asking
Yeah - converted Raptors run into the six-figure range here. Pity.
J Hans it's 60k Australian dollars u idiot
+Giovannie Dildo-What the fuck did you call me?
J Hans i called you by your name
You need to factor in local wages too though. For example the average annual wage in Australia in 2016 as per the bureau of statistics was just under $80K ($79721). In the US that is about the average wage for someone with a Doctorate, whereas the median annual wage for the entire population is around $41,520. Apples and Oranges Mate, hence why a $60K price tag isn't as much of a slap in the face down under.
excellent review
can you do a review of the 2016 toyota hilux =)
im torn between the 2

As soon as this video started i was like hmmm.. seems familiar location. Thats Lerderderg state park if I'm not mistaken. good little spot for camping.
it's a bargain to buy this pick-up
I mean it's very very good at doing it's thing, spec wise it beats the hellaout of the competitors and it's really capable of doing so not only in paper.but remember it is a FORD.
Fix Or Repair Daily. goodluck with aftersale service and pray tht you don't get a lemon car.
True. Good Ute and only contender to the Hilux really. Though, unreliable to an extent and horrible resale mean I'm taking the Hilux any day.
FUCK FORD
***** Truth, is truth. Ford is trying its socks off to even come close to the Hilux. Whichever dealer you go to, they will recommend the Hilux. The Ranger isn/t bad, its pretty good. But, sorry, the Hilux is better. Period!
Brutal Dominator I agree. Also the new SUV's are just a shitty copy of the new landcruisers.
SirTurtle Exactly Need l say more?
Ford Ranger Wildtrak looks good.
from 1:27 to 1:28 what is that running on the ground? btw nice review
little bird
Best 4x4 ford
great review - very informative and even entertaining and I got a good laugh from some of his comments - the wildtrak "pugface" is very desirable but a bit too expensive brand new - I wonder if its price will devalue to 58% after 2 years? which would make it more affordable and better value since it should devalue much slower after that initial drop in value - it should also have 1 year warranty left but being a diesel which I have never owned before wonder how much more expensive to service - after 3 years I would be doing the services myself as I have done with all my cars - how much more work is it to service this diesel than a petrol engine eg 6 cyl ford falcon??
Cheers Major!
There are specific procedures that need to be followed for Ranger servicing - so best to check before committing.
majorgeeek
my thinking too!
What did he mean by climate 18 degrees
He wanted to set the AC
Low ride height for a pickup
Can it drive in mud and also tow
Yes it can. 80cm deep Water
would any one know whether the videos on the net about ford ranger driving in mud are real..? i have just realized the performance by ranger in muddy situation is the worst...i bought a wildtrak and i am regreting....i should have stuck with the prado
What is the Problem with Mud?
Good solid review.
Thanks
That car is my favorite the ranger.
u forget to show us inside
9L per 100km? HOW?!? My partner an I just drove from Melbourne to Sydney and back again in a 2017 Wildtrek PX2 and it averaged 10.6L per 100KM.
You need a prius.
In Asia, we call that a 'truck' not a ute :)
