  • Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo ThinkPad X380 Yoga convertible Ultrabook with a full HD 13.3” display supporting pen and touch. It runs Windows 10 on Intel 8th generation Core i5 and i7 15 watt quad core U series CPUs with your choice of 8 or 16GB RAM, Intel UHD 620 graphics, an M.2 NVMe SSD, Thunderbolt 3 and Intel 8265AC graphics. This is the more affordable alternative to the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga with a slightly smaller display.

Seems like Lenovo ThinkPads are one of the very few Leptops that still have proper cursor keys. But they start that soldered ram business too.. Annoying. Straight against pro user wishes.

Great review and what made it even one of the best is because of the quick comparison between this and the x1 yoga gen 3 because so similar that any random person could mistake them as the samething.

Hey, I had to decide between x380 and the yoga x1 . On Paper it is not worth paying that higher price for a better display if you do not need it. but everything changed after I had the chance to touch bouth and compare some things. First one I mentioned is that the touchpad from x380 is absolutely bad like realy bad and the touchpad from the x1 is a lot better Its not that good as macbooks one (had a macbook before) but it feels way better then the yoga x380. the second one are the left and rightclick buttons looks and feels like very chunky on the x380 . the display is not only a little bit better its incredible on the x1 the colors and the brightness are awesome. so you maybe mentioned that I decided to take the x1 yoga instead of the x380. 1 week later my wallet is still angry but I am happy with my decision. battery life is not that bad as some reviewers said but its not the strength of the x1 . have some troubles with my display which is flakering on lowest brightness but I hope the support will help me soon. I hope you got some more informations. if they are any questions about the x1 yoga just ask :)

    • @fpl_bailey

had a call today with the support , they offered me to get a new one and told me that they allready had some calls because of that Problem but with the 2nd Generation with the oled display. I will keep you updated .

    Dear Lisa, greetings from Germany.
Your T480 review was one of my major decision points to grab that one.
    It's pretty versatile.
I'd like to see your opinion about the L380 though.
Would be interesting to see in comparison to an Acer Spin 513-52N, which I gave to my second Daughter, because she likes drawing, like you.
Same I would say about an Acer Swift 5, which I gave to my first Daughter.
Both are more "fixed" in configuration but very decent performers.
Nonetheless the Swift 5 surprised me with a second, free NVME M.2 slot, which is not listed officially on the product site, if I remember right.
I'm more than 38 years into IT stuff and the T480 brings back the versatility to me, we had so many years ago.
    Remember the first Apples?
Next year, when my son will be 16, it will be his.
And I'll grab a T490 by then, probably. What will be after T490? :)
Keep on going lady,, mostly periodically :)

    • @edgargabriel6640
      @edgargabriel6640 6 лет назад

      Luis S , it's the uhd 620 igp.
I've the small 24 wh and the fat 72 wh swappable batteries.
Battery life depends pretty much on what you're doing, naturally.
I max them usually at 80% max charge to minimize battery aging.
And I use xtu undervolting (-100mv).
So I get (e.g.) 6 to 7 hours of video streaming with"suggested" screen brightness from the small battery and about 20 from the fat one.
Note: including the built in one.
      Cheers

Luis S you're welcome. Btw. I've the new usb ultra dock with it. IMHO the best combination if you don't aim at external graphics GPUs

I use the Lenovo X380 Yoga (i5-8250, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) now for 4 Months and I’m happy with it. I’m using it for daily work tasks and taking notes at the university. For me the X380 works fine and I couldn’t find any better product at this Price.
After two Months my Battery needed to be changed because of low Capacity. But the Lenovo Support handled it within a week.

Lisa, I ordered my L380 Yoga with an i7 8550 U, so it is available without an i5. It is also available with a new world-facing camera (x380 and x1 do not have this) and fingerprint reader. I didn't see those on the L380 model you showed. After upgrading my ram (bought separately) to 32GB I was $1400 or so in.

useful but puzzled why they soldered the RAM this time. in the X370 I kind of remember that models with the WLAN LTE port had soldered RAM and models without it, had a RAM slot. hopefully it is just the fact that you got a model with the WLAN port. I guess the fact that there is no yoga with dedicated graphics, still leave a tiny bit of market reason for the ageing P40 Yoga, the last one with dedicated graphics, no? (of course in the Ideapad line, there is the Yoga 720 with 7700HQ and GTX1050)

Youssef Hegazy you can set it to "cool and quiet" via the Lenovo control center or download Intel xtu to undervolt the CPU slightly. I'm thinking about repasting mine to achieve better thermal performance. There are detailed instructions on how to remove the CPU cooler in the maintenance manual. Should be pretty easy to do.

I think is more actual now days to use M.2 SSD in WWAN port than LTE card as there are no gigabit WWAN LTE cards on the market yet, so I think is more useful have mobile hotspot and secondary M.2 2242 SSD.

This was one of my options for a replacement laptop for my employer. I was seriously considering it, but doing some research and seeing that the docking station is a steaming pile of dung unfortunately I will need to pass on it. The "docking" station doesn't even charge the laptop! This is a REQUIRED function of a docking station....not a feature. So the docking station is a $200 USB hub...who in their right mind pays $200 for a USB hub???

let me warn about Lenovo.....their repair center / warranty service is attrociously bad. Kept my system for a month and returned it broken. So just something to consider. I am still fighting them to get my money back or a replacement. ugh.

I really prefer the original power supply port. I have a worn out USB C port ( some piece of the plastic fell off) on my T480s. Never thought I would worry about a power supply port on a Thinkpad. That USB C ports are fragile.
