  • A few months ago I received an interesting email from Cynthia Kohanek, a music teacher in Florida, with an interesting idea about the Papageno/Papagena duet from Mozart's Magic Flute. I'd see the opera several times over the years and remembered to the two characters- but I hadn't really thought about how their duet started until Cynthia's email. But once I got into it, I could see the point she was making- the duet starts with a little play on their names- Papageno and Papagena- but it also sounds like the start of a two part rhythm exercise or solfege exercise. So with that, we started to to work together to create this video.
So I would very much like to thank Cynthia Korhanek for the inspiration for this video, and also a big thank you to Anne Mendez, who worked with Cynthia, to help create the vocals.
I hope everyone can enjoy this bit of opera, and it will make you hungry for more!
