Then along comes a defense that is the actual bug zapper and snaps them back to reality. If UW had a defense like Bama then they'd be a problem. I just don't see UW'd defense actually stopping UofM. Since Michigan implemented the Ravens defense in 2021 no team has beaten them relying on perimeter players. Football games are won in the trenches not on the sidelines. Also, Michigan has beaten the #2, 3 and 4 scoring defenses in the country, averaging 26 points per game. U-M could easily control the ball and score 40+ Monday.

All we keep hearing about is how great UW's offense is. No one has been able to dispute the scoring stats where UM scores essentially the same amount of points against better defenses..
UW scores 37.5 ppg and gives up 24ppg
UM scores 36ppg and gives up 10ppg
Those numbers are already handicapped for UM supposed weak schedule as their starters played in one partial 4th quarter the whole season up until the PSU game. It'll be interesting to see what gives. I don't think many UW fans have watched much of UofM. The big concern should be UW stopping UofM. Go Blue!

Long time Michigan fan and season ticketholder here. I respect The University of Washington and its football team. It's a classy university and glad they are joining the Big 10! It's going to be an epic game but Michigan will prevail because it can win games in so many ways. Michigan should be able to run the ball. This will open up the passing game and with a good run/pass balance, they can move the chains, go on long clock burning drives and wear down Washington's defense. Big plays will then open up. The defense will put the heat on Penix and be able to cover down field. Penix's accuracy drops below 50% when scrambling - he'll have to do alot of that in this game.

Michigan has played and beaten 3 teams with the top 10 defenses in the country including number 2-3. Washington’s total defense is 41. The best defense Washington has played is Utah who is 18 but 65 in pass defense and the Wolverines are 3 in pass defense. Stats don’t tell the entire story but you have strength in strength when Washington has the ball and the wolerines has a big edge when they have the ball.

I’m nervous because from what I’m hearing from everyone about Michigan’s offense and defense being good. Last game was a heart attack symptoms kind of game for the Huskies fan. It’s going to be one of those games again. UW needs to win to make their Pac12 farewell complete. Go Huskies!

Very intriguing. Being a Life LllOooNnnGgg Huskies fan - living in WA this game is extremely exciting due to the fact that borh teams are 14-0 , the Huskies currently represents the PAC-12 in it's last season as the cconference is now and has the last chance to get a National Championship for the conference before the end. Another interesting fact is that the Huskie are playing against the conference they are joining after this season ends at the end of this game - ironcically.

The problem with comparative stats like SP+ is they only have 3 out of conference games to decide who is a better team and two of those games are typically non Power 5. So, how can you really determine is Washington State is better than Minnesota? Total stab in the dark.
You can’t use bowl games, because of opt outs and motivation issues. You also have motivation issues at the end of a season depending on who you’re playing.
2nd issue is injuries. How much does a 2nd or 3rd string backup mean to a team? Then consider 5 or 6 of those backups in a game for one team and the other team is healthy. How would SP+ factor that in…
Case in point. The Huskies offense averaged over 500 yards when McMillian was healthy, but 395 yards when he wasn’t. One player…. They averaged over 500 against Texas and Oregon in the last 2 games that really mattered.
Also a win early in the year or a loss might not be indicative of the growth of a team during g the year.
Every stat I see quoted seems to always include the 2 non Power 5 teams. Why? However, even if they only include conference games, how can that really tell you which conference top to bottom is better.
Stats are a crap shoot. The game is won and lost by players making plays on the field and every game comes with a game plan to give up on the run to stop the pass or vice versa or to take away a player and give something or someone else.
133 teams that don’t really play out of conference is why we’re surprised so often.

Some players will not be stopped. I remember, back in the 2008 Capital One Bowl (the 2007 season), Michigan had to play Florida. This was the same season Tim Tebow won the Heisman Trophy. During the 5 weeks between the last regular season game and the bowl, Michigan completely overhauled their offense into more of a spread attack (which caught Florida completely off guard). M knew they wouldn't be able to stop Tebow, so they concentrated on finding the most effective way to, at the very least, contain him. It worked (Tebow was held to his lowest offensive output of that season). Why am I writing about that? Well, I think this is a similar situation. Penix, much like Tebow, will not be stopped completely. So Michigan has to find a way to contain him. And, fortunately, Michigan's offense is very good, while Washington's D is, at best, mediocre. So that's how M defends against Penix...use the run game to produce long, sustained drives. In other words, they need to keep Penix on the sideline and off the field, as much as they possibly can. If they don't do that, then it could be a very long game for Michigan come Monday night. However, I think Michigan can get it done, and win this game, 34-17. Go Blue!!

    • @8301TheJMan
      @8301TheJMan 6 месяцев назад

That was the best all around offensive performance i can remember from a Michigan team. I was ecstatic the whole game. Defensively they had Shawn Crable, (imo the best outside linebacker in Michigan history, possibly best LB period btw), just stay on Tebow as a spy - no matter what, and we absolutely dominated them. The score at the end doesn't tell the full story, Mike Hart, (who had only one fumble in something like two seasons prior to this game, had 2 fumbles while right at the goal line and we lost both. Henne was amazing, and though Hart had a TD and well over a hundred yards rushing, the stars of that game were firstly Adrian Arrington and secondly Greg Matthews. Adrian was actually the best all around receiver on that team, not Manningham - yes Mario had most receptions, but that's cuz he was thrown to more. Adrian was taller, more athletic, harder to tackle, a better route-runner, and had much better hands. He wasn't blazing fast, but it wasn't like he was slow either - and he dominated that game. I remember that game like it was yesterday, the last Carr game, and at the time i was hoping that Rich Rod would implement a similar style of spread that Carr used, sort of an air-raid style offense. Unfortunately he implemented the same run-based spread he ran at WV even though we never had the personnel for that typ of offense, and pretty much ruined the program for a decade. lol.

Same! From where I'm from, up in central Maine, i was known as the single most hardcore Michigan fan on the planet, so if anybody from there knew that i gave up on Michigan pretty much - and stopped watching any of their games, they'd be absolutely stunned. Though I liked Hoke's offense a hell of a lot more than Rich-Rod's, the fact is he, (like Rich before him), simply couldn't recruit for shit! It's hard for most modern college football fans to fathom that back during the Carr era - Michigan out-recruited, or at least was on par, with not only OSU - but many SEC powerhouses as well.
Both Mallet ad Henne were one of the top 2 or 3 QB's coming outa HS when they came in, (hell, Henna was ranked number 1 by Phil Steel and a number of other recruiting rankings), so to go from that to Forcier, Morris, and Gardner being the best Hoke and Rich Rod brought in was a large reason were just so damn bad back then. Morris was pretty high, but was a disappointment to say the least, I don't even think he got much/any real PT for fuck's sake. Gardner ended up being the only one of them that ended up being really damn good, (too bad the o-lines were just so atrocious those years, Devin just never had a chance). Finally though, after these last few seasons we're finally starting to rebuild a consistently improving talent pool for Harbaugh to work with.

Bro the Michigan team could break the draft prospects record with potentially 16 guys drafted if some juniors go…. Lastly the best game to give you an example of what this game will look like is the ASU game…. ASU held Washington to 7 yards rushing first half… made them 1 dimensional… that’s what Michigan will do as they are light years better up front… they will then blitz those A gaps with stunts and backers and Sainstril… Panic Penix will be sacked pressured and have balls swatted leading to off target throws INT’s and intentional grounding because Penix is smarter than Milroe…. And ASU ran for 134 yards in first half… Michigan is clearly head and shoulders better than ASU at running the ball…. Watch for Michigan to use that blue print and see a similar game for the first half… then I see adjustments by Washington leaving a RB in to block all game and still be 1 dimensional Washington makes a come back but runs out of time
